Income Inequality and the Power of Behavioral Choices Income inequality has become one of the most debated issues of our time. For many, the growing gap between rich and poor raises difficult questions about fairness, opportunity, and the role of government.

Yet amid these debates, one truth remains: while we do not choose the circumstances into which we are born, we often have significant influence over the behavioral choices we make throughout our lives.

No one chooses their family, neighborhood, school, or economic starting point. Some begin life burdened by poverty, family dysfunction, abuse, neglect, or limited educational opportunities. These obstacles are real and can create significant disadvantages. However, history is filled with stories of individuals who refused to be defined by their circumstances. They found mentors, coaches, teachers, faith communities, and supportive relationships that helped them rise above adversity.

Research consistently shows that behavior matters. Success is not determined solely by talent, intelligence, luck, or opportunity. More often, it is the product of daily behavioral choices repeated over time. The habits we develop and the decisions we make shape the trajectory of our lives.

Those who flourish tend to demonstrate certain behaviors consistently. They take responsibility rather than blame others.

They practice gratitude instead of focusing exclusively on what they lack. They learn from mistakes rather than allowing past failures to define them.

They show up on time, keep their commitments, demonstrate respect, work diligently, and continue learning. These actions may seem ordinary, but over time, they produce extraordinary results.

Conversely, certain behaviors can keep people trapped.

Chronic negativity, refusing accountability, dwelling on past mistakes, avoiding difficult conversations, failing to plan ahead, neglecting healthy routines, and remaining in destructive relationships can limit personal growth and opportunity. Success often requires what some call an “Etch A Sketch moment”… the willingness to shake off the past, start over, and move forward with renewed purpose and passion.

The most powerful principles of success are delayed gratification and impulse control. Students study long before they receive good grades. Athletes train for years before earning recognition. Successful people frequently sacrifice short-term comfort for long-term gain. They save

before spending, prepare before performing, and persevere when quitting would be easier.

Relationships also play a critical role. The people who surround us influence our attitudes, expectations, and behavior. Positive friendships, mentors, and supportive communities often provide the encouragement and accountability necessary to grow and succeed.

Research on social mobility and financial self-sufficiency highlights a simple but powerful pathway known as the “Success Sequence”: first, graduate from high school (college is a bonus); second, secure stable employment; and third, marry before having children. Individuals who

follow this sequence dramatically reduce their likelihood of living in poverty, with some studies reporting poverty rates as low as 5% among those who do.

Certainly, people need skills, support, and opportunities to overcome life’s challenges.

But ultimately, success is not a single event; it is the cumulative result of thousands of behavioral choices. We cannot control every circumstance we encounter, but we can control how we respond. Income inequality is not solved solely through policy, government, or taxing the rich and redistributing their largesse. Life outcomes are up to the individual, not the government, keeping outcomes fair. Certainly, we should have equal opportunities, but we were never promised equal outcomes.

The Little Gym of Greenwood Village opens bringing developmental gymnastics to the Denver area Grand Opening Celebrated June 6; Founding Member Enrollment Now Open The Little Gym of Greenwood Village today announced that it is bringing non-competitive, developmental gymnastics programming to families across the Denver area this summer.

The new location is owned and operated by Katharine Arnold, a Colorado resident, mother, and former software engineering manager at Boeing, who plans to expand to two additional locations in Colorado in the coming years. The grand opening event was June 6.

The Little Gym offers classes for children ages 4 months to 12 years, designed to build physical, social-emotional, and cognitive skills through movement, music, and imaginative play. Programs are structured to help develop confidence, independence, and decision-making abilities in a safe, supportive environment.

“I’m building the kind of place my husband and I would want for our own child, one that inspires confidence, kindness, and growth, and where families feel comfortable, supported, and welcomed,” said Arnold.

In addition to all single-family homes and duplexes, the city currently provides the service to some condominium complexes and, since 2021, all forsale townhomes, as well as swimming pools in four GV neighborhoods.

One condo complex, Landmark Towers, has been the subject of ongoing failed requests to be included in the program, from owners of its 271 units, who pay GV property taxes based on home values averaging over $1 million. Such unsuccessful requests came from homeowners there on October 4, 2021, when they presented a petition signed by over 150 residents; on October 17, 2022, and again last month on May 4, at a city council study session, when GV Public Works Director Jeremy Hanak told the council that it would cost $18,000 annually to provide trash pick-up four times per week at the Landmark Towers, and $12,500 for the same service at the

only two other condo complexes in GV that are not included in the city’s trash pick-up program.

The May 4 proposal to include Landmark came from Council Member Bob Doyle, who represents the district in which Landmark is located, and drew support from Jay Schneiderman, Landmark’s other representative, as well as District Three Council Member Donna Johnston.

Council Members Paul Wiesner, Katrin Mezger, Tom Stahl, Ann Nelson and Mayor Pro Tem Libby Barnacle said no, resulting in a 5-3 vote against Doyle’s proposal. Barnacle suggested taking action to make the decision official.

On June 1, the city took up “Resolution No. 21 Concerning City Paid Trash Services,” to do so. It states that the city-paid service is limited to single-family homes, condos that were built before 2006, and town homes, duplexes, and, by implication, the four swimming pools that have been receiving the city-paid service.

The vote to adopt the Resolution was 6-2, with Doyle and Council Member Donna Johnston voting

against it. Voting yes were Jay Schneiderman, Paul Wiesner, Katrin Mezger, Tom Stahl, Libby Barnacle and Ann Nelson.

The only council member who spoke about her vote before casting it was Johnston, who said, “There’s no rationale (for excluding Landmark). It keeps coming back to that.” She referenced the Village at Landmark, a 90-home development just south of the Landmark Towers, for which a groundbreaking was held on June 4. Johnston pointed out, “They’ll be single-family, so they’ll get trash services. The Landmark does not.” She also noted that the Hermitage Condominiums, which gets city trash pickup, “has (dumpster) bins (as does Landmark), not single containers,” adding, “When Anne Ingebretsen and Dave Bullock were on city council, they said (providing trash services to Landmark) seemed like a good idea. I won’t support the Resolution, and I encourage other people to say no, as well.”

The only member of the council whose informal vote on May 4 was different than his formal vote on June 1 was Schneiderman.

When The Villager asked

lier, he told us that he didn’t think the Resolution “was meant to exclude the Landmark or any other condominium association.” Rather, he “read it as an affirmation of a decision that had already been made…and as such, found no reason to vote against (it),” though, he said, “I understand that there is disappointment by some residents of the Landmark, Village Lots and Village Plaza Lofts.”

Before the vote was taken, two GV residents testified.

Original Landmark homeowner since 2008, Richard Nathan, asked council members to vote down the Resolution, explaining, “This Resolution is before this council, not to talk about who’s included (in the city’s paid trash program), but to make clear who is excluded. We’ve come before this council and asked, on more occasions than one…that the Landmark be included…We pay, in the aggregate, about $58,000… And for that $58,000, we’re excluded from certain services…The policy that you’re putting in has been here in an unwritten form since 1996. It was revisited in 2006, and seven

Ian Byrd, president of the Landmark Homeowner’s Association, told the council, “As you well know, we in the Landmark and the other two condominium associations, pay property taxes, like every single-family residence in Greenwood Village, and we are not receiving these services. There’s never been a rational explanation as to why we don’t receive these services.”

Byrd asked the council to reconsider excluding Landmark and the other two condo complexes from the trash contract set to take effect January 1, 2027, “But,” he added, “If you refuse to do that, then…don’t pass this Resolution. There’s no need for it. Leave it as the status quo…so that a future council may decide to do something without having to go against a Resolution that’s been passed. I heard no explanation why we need a Resolution like this.”

The Financial Highlights section of the CAFR noted that, in 2025, GV’s total net position increased by $12.5 million, compared to the prior year, “primarily reflecting a 3.5% growth in total assets,” with the increase driven by a $5 million rise in cash and investments and a $3 million increase in capital assets.

The representative of the city’s outside auditor reported to the city council that her firm, Eide Bailly, had found no material problems in the city’s books or procedures and issued a “clean” audit report.

Asked what they would do differently than the Democrats, State Sen. Barbara Kirkmeyer said she has “a plan that would whip our budget into shape within six months,” and that the Democrats “balanced the budget on the backs of students, on purpose, where they would cut funding to the schools.”

State Rep. Scott Bottoms, who is a pastor, said that “Democrats have destroyed pretty much everything in our state…

We are not a Constitutional state anymore… The Democrats don’t care about the rule of law, they don’t care about statute.

We’re going to go back to the Constitution.”

High-risk missionary Victor Marx, said, “I’m not a politician… I’m a leader. I have experience, working with governments. I’m a negotiator, not a debater.”

Pointing to prior statements from Bottoms and Kirkmeyer, the moderators asked them why they had said they would not support Marx as their party’s candidate if he won the primary.

Bottoms called Marx corrupt and accused him of “conning my church, by telling me he rescued 45,000 people in over 100 situations, 30 countries.”

Kirkmeyer said, ““He is unfit…He talks about homicidal and suicidal tendencies…He’s a fraud. He makes up these tall tales, these tall stories. I just don’t believe them,” also

pointing to Marx saying he would attend prior forums and then cancelling as evidence he doesn’t keep his word.

Marx responded that Bottoms sounded like he was desperate and said that Bottoms had tried to convince him not to run by offering him the position of lieutenant governor, which he turned down.

As to Kirkmeyer’s accusations, Marx responded, “Just because a person doesn’t believe the truth, it doesn’t make it a lie. There are so many tens of thousands of people that we’ve helped, over the years.” He named several people who he said could verify his claims, adding that getting into this race “is not a promotion for me; it is stepping into a realm that, frankly, I had no interest in.”

Asked how they could bring down the cost of living as a Republican governor with a likely Democratic legislature, Kirkmeyer said she would scrutinize the state’s 300 boards and commissions and put people on them who will remove regulations that have made the state less affordable. She also pointed to her long history of working with Democrats as evidence she can do that well.

In response to the question, Marx said, “I’d simply negotiate with people to accomplish a greater good, like I’ve done all over the world. Just because other people haven’t done it in the past doesn’t mean I can’t.”

Bottoms also named deregulation, as well as “attacking property taxes,” and re-instituting The Gallagher Amendment, which was a 1982 constitutional

amendment repealed by the voters in 2020.

Asked to discuss why he has passed so little legislation during his time in the general assembly, Bottoms said that the bills he has sponsored that failed were “to stop transgender surgeries, put pedophiles in jail for life, to stop human trafficking, to make parents the decision maker on any kind of surgery, to keep boys out of girls sports.” (Editor’s Note: Although Bottoms could not get his bills passed, three of the five issues on that list have just been certified for the November 2026 ballot through the use of petitions.)

Bottoms was also asked to explain his claim that there are “45,000 to 50,000 tren de Aragua gang members in Colorado, mostly in rural areas, which is odd because that’s 10 to 20 times the worldwide membership of the gang, according to the U.S. government,” and the claim that “Sheriffs in Colorado are preparing to deputize people who have special forces experience to go and fight this foreign army,” but, the moderator said, “I reached out to every single sheriff in Colorado and not one said you’re telling the truth.” Bottoms conceded that he got the number wrong.

On immigration and Colorado working with the federal government, Marx said, “I think we can work with the feds for proper law enforcement, while still showing compassion to those in need.”

Bottoms said, “The governor has the ability to mobilize the National Guard. I will do that, specifically against the Venezu-

Pointing to sanctuary cities, Bottoms said he would withhold state funds from such cities, and, because what they are doing is illegal, “We might need to put some mayors in jail in the process.” Asked how he would jail a mayor, Bottoms said, “You call the attorney general and say, put them in jail.”

Kirkmeyer said she would consider withholding funds over which the state has control from sanctuary cities, but, “The people who live in those municipalities or counties, they’re my constituents as well, and just because their leaders don’t have it right…doesn’t mean they shouldn’t get the services and the programs that they deserve to get.”

Marx said, “Yes, because it’s the taxpayers’ money and I know more Coloradans out there that are suffering because of the sanctuary cities’ policies.”

Marx was asked, “Jared Polis is Colorado’s first Jewish governor. You are running a campaign that explicitly calls for a return to Christian leadership.

You tell church crowds that your campaign is an assignment from God and part of a spiritual war…What would it mean for Coloradans to, as you say, put Godly leadership back into the Capitol?”

He answered, “I’m a man of the law but my faith gives me the moral code to do what I do, and the backbone to make the hard decisions.”

To Bottoms, the moderators said, “You said you were proud to have the endorsement of Joe Oltmann, the MAGA podcaster who has called for the execution, by hanging, of Colorado’s governor, attorney general, and secretary of state, who he calls ‘Synagogue of Satan Jews.’”

They asked if Bottoms agreed with Oltmann’s characterization of the state’s governor, attorney general and secretary of state, including the name he called them.

Bottoms said, “Joe Oltmann and I disagree very strongly on the nation of Israel. This is our biggest dividing point…As a pastor, I stand strongly with the Jewish people. I also do know that there are indictments coming down pretty soon for Secretary of State Griswold and Attorney General Weiser. Some of this was including Governor Polis. I don’t think it has anything to do with them being Jewish. I think it has to do with them being corrupt. It’s specifically for sedition.” He said he did not agree with Oltmann’s name-calling.

In response to a follow-up question, Bottoms reiterated he knows that Griswold and Weiser are going to be federally charged, this summer, with treason, a crime the moderator pointed out is punishable by death. Bottoms also said that, if he’s elected, Oltmann would probably have a role in his administration, “as long as it’s not around Jewish people.” When that statement resulted in Kirkmeyer laughing out loud, the moderator said, “Some people are going to find that statement funnier than others.”

Then there were petitions circulated…with around 400 in favor of a traffic signal, of which about 90 people were CHV residents. About 500 people signed a petition in opposition to the light, of which 150 people were CHV residents.”

That led to CHV acting on the issue. Using the Manual on

Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), CHV hired consultants, WSB Design and Consulting LLC, to conduct a new study.

Mayor Brown pointed out that, although the City of Greenwood Village had also performed a traffic study in 2024, which the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) had determined demonstrated that a traffic signal at the corner of Belleview & Franklin was warranted, CHV did its own separate study. She explained, “Because the MUTCD relies strictly on objective data, we became concerned when residents shared, during public comment, that drivers were explicitly told to navigate the intersection on data collection days to artificially inflate traffic counts. Furthermore, we received an independent, third-party review of the same data that contradicted the 2024 study’s conclusions.” She also noted that a warrant study from 2008 for the same intersection concluded that warrants were not met “and the recent data

Denver’s summer event season will welcome the return of Spirit Colorado on Saturday, June 20, 2026, as Volunteers of America Colorado (VOA Colorado) transforms Denver’s RiNo district into a celebration of food, craft beverages, live entertainment, and community connection.

Running from 2 to 6 p.m., the open-air festival brings together many of Colorado’s most recognized chefs, wineries, distilleries, breweries, musicians, and artists for an afternoon showcasing the creativity and culture that define the state. Beyond the culinary and entertainment experience, the event also supports VOA Colorado’s mission to serve individuals and families facing homelessness, hunger, and hardship across Colorado.

Series on Friday at 2 p.m. in the Pocket Park. The USAFA Wild Blue Country band will headline the Main Stage on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by Saturday night’s headliner, The Martini Shot at 6:30 p.m. The weekend’s main stage music lineup also features acts such as Mimic, Just Us, Dakota Blonde, and a host of local talent on two Busker Stages; Honey & Ruin with Jaime Brown, UKU: STIK VIBES, Joe Uveges, Carmen & Lewis, Boomtown String Band, Ralph Williams, Annette and Doug Conlon, and Christian Jaquez.

Estate planning for a digital world These tips from Merrill can help you ensure your heirs and executor have access to all the information you have stored online — while protecting your privacy.

Practically every aspect of our lives is inextricably tied to our devices and networks, and the digital assets we have accumulated have become just as critical as anything else we possess. We need to account for these assets in our estate plans, taking all eventualities into account.

What are “digital assets”? The term refers to any electronic record to which an individual has a right or interest.

These can be financial assets, including bill pay sites or virtual currencies; business assets, which might include a domain name or client data; personal assets like photos; and social assets like Facebook or LinkedIn accounts.

It is more than simply a matter of making sure your account information is safely stored and your passwords are secure. You also need a plan for how and when the people you trust can gain access. As you develop that plan, consider the following five tips.

Create a legal framework

Make an inventory of your digital assets “Creating a road map of the assets you own could be the most important thing you can do,” says Korzec. Documenting everything you do online will help ensure your heirs will not miss anything. Jot down the key accounts and assets you own and use, organized by type, including: • Financial: Include bank and brokerage accounts, online payment tools, credit cards, digital wallets and NFTs (nonfungible tokens).

• Business: If you own a business, those digital assets might include tax software, proprietary business software, client data, domain names, patents and more.

• Personal: This long list may cover email accounts, texts, contacts, medical records, photos, digital music, loyalty programs, streaming services, online shopping accounts and even gaming avatars.

Why not just give your heir, executor or fiduciary the passwords for your laptop, smartphone and other devices?

Unfortunately, this strategy can weaken your personal security. “Many people do not fully appreciate that digital assets are different animals from traditional assets such as bank accounts,” says Colin Korzec, head of Trust and Estate Settlement Services at Bank of America Private Bank. “They are often subject to terms of service agreements as well as state and federal laws.” In other words, others will likely need your explicit permission to go into these accounts.

• Social: Some social media sites have settings that let you designate what happens to them if you die.

Nonetheless, be sure to make your wishes known.

As you consider granting access to others, be aware of potential tradeoffs. Your personal email account, for example, might contain a trove of information that could help in settling your estate. Yet you may want to keep some messages private. Balancing those two needs requires a thoughtful approach. You can grant access to some digital accounts while excluding others or choose different people to receive access to different accounts.

One way of keeping your digital assets inventory and passwords safe is to save them on separate password-protected documents. Tools such as a password vault can serve as a secured central storage location, not only for passwords but also for key account information and documents your heirs and executors may need. Alternately, you can write down passwords and store them in a locked safe or a safe deposit box or keep them with your attorney.

Keep passwords separate While the inventory document gives you a place to note usernames, Korzec cautions against including passwords.

“Those passwords may have expired by the time the inventory is accessed,” he says. “Plus, the person with your inventory may not be authorized to access those accounts.”

Whichever way you choose, the executor you name in your will should be granted access to both the inventory and your passwords.

Engage experts when you need to In some cases, it may be worthwhile to call on a digital expert. That third party, for example, can examine a device for any references to a digital wallet or an NFT. “We had one client who had a relatively valuable painting on consignment that no heirs knew about — until a forensic computing expert found a reference to it stored electronically,” says Korzec. “It turns out it was worth a significant amount.”

Revisit your plan from time to time Just as you update your estate planning documents every couple of years or if something major changes, like a marriage or the birth of a grandchild, you will want to periodically take another look at your digital asset inventory.

Keeping track of those assets, Korzec says, “will ensure your loved ones and heirs are not spending an already difficult time scrambling for account access — which is probably not the legacy you intended to leave.”

Voting to determine which players will represent their teams at the 96th Midsummer Classic in Philadelphia July 14 began June 3. Pitchers will be named later.

Major League Baseball requires that every team have at least one player or pitcher in the game, so Colorado is assured of having someone in uniform at Citizens Bank Park.

The Rockies aren’t going to place more than that mandatory one representative on the National League roster, but at least there’s more than one legitimate possibility.

Consider these candidates:

Hunter Goodman

The National League Silver Slugger at catcher last season, Goodman was the All-Star backup to the Dodgers’ Will Smith for the game in Atlanta.

Goodman was hitting .278 with 17 home runs and 52 runs batted in when chosen.

This year he leads National League catchers in home runs and is among the league leaders in that category overall.

His batting average, though, is more than 30 points below last year at this point, and his RBI total is nowhere near last season.

Goodman’s competition on the All-Star ballot includes Smith, the likely starter again; Atlanta’s Drake Baldwin, who is flirting with .300 and has the best overall offensive numbers—for the team with the best won-lost record in all of baseball; and Miami’s Liam Hicks, who leads all NL catchers in RBI and isn’t far from the league lead overall.

Last season, Goodman replaced Smith in the fifth inning, flied out to deep left-center in the sixth, was pinch-hit for by Washington’s James Wood in the eighth, then re-entered the game to catch the ninth of an ultimate 6-6 tie.

Before he was a Rockie, Troy Johnston was a fish out water, so to speak: a Jupiter Hammerhead, Beloit Snapper, Pensacola Blue Wahoo, Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp and Miami Marlin.

This time last season he was laboring in Jacksonville of the International League, compiling a .252 average with 12 homers, 39 RBI and 31 stolen bases.

Now he’s one of the top hitters by average in the National League, a critical piece in the improved Colorado lineup.

Called to the majors two weeks after last year’s All-

Star Game, Johnston played in 44 games for the Marlins the rest of 2025, hitting .277 with four homers and 13 RBI in 121 plate appearances. Yet he was waived at end of the season and claimed by Colorado on Nov. 5, 2025.

Even though he has played a lot of outfield for the Rockies, Johnston’s on the All-Star ballot as a designated hitter—along with Shohei Ohtani (a cinch); Philly’s Kyle Schwarber, who leads baseball in homers but is barely hitting his weight; and Christian Yellich of the Brewers; a former MVP.

Mickey Moniak

The No.1 pick in the 2016 draft, Moniak was a disappointment in 47 games across parts of three seasons with the Phillies, who made him “one-one” that year, and the Angels, who waived him after two-plus, average-at-best seasons.

Claimed by the Rockies, he hit .270 with career highs in home runs (24) and RBI (68) in 2025. And in 43 games this year, he’s hit .280 with 12 homers and 28 driven in.

That’s an All-Star pace, but he’s missed a third of the Rockies’ games with injuries.

Playing and delivering between now and the close of voting is his only hope to be chosen from a crowded list of outfield candidates.

Antonio Senzatela

Pitchers are selected by the managers from last season’s World Series, in the NL’s case, Dave Roberts of the Dodgers. He could satisfy the “one-player-per-team” requirement by naming Antonio Senzatela, whose successful conversion from starter to relief pitcher makes him an appealing member of an AllStar Game roster (as well as a prime trade deadline target).

A member of Venezuela’s World Baseball Classic champions before the 2026 season started, Senzatela was a starter until late last season, when he made seven effective relief appearances at the end of a 4-15 year.

This season his earned run average has hovered below two and, through the start of All-Star voting, he was unbeaten in five decisions.

Whoever winds up carrying Rockies colors in this year’s All-Star Game, it will be a surprise if he emerges a star among the stars. After Cairo, we took a short flight west to Tripoli, the capital of Libya.

Before going, we were well aware that the U.S. Department of State currently assigns Libya a Level 4 “Do Not Travel” advisory—its highest warning level. Friends and family made sure we knew it.

We went anyway.

Our visas were in order, and our guide met us at the airport to ease our arrival. What we didn’t expect was being introduced to two government “minders”—one assigned to each of us. Former police officers who spoke no English, they accompanied us everywhere during our stay.

Visitors from countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, China, and Russia are often assigned such escorts—partly to ensure we behave, and perhaps more importantly, to ensure nothing happens to us. Libya has little interest in an international incident involving a missing American tourist.

It made for a unique travel experience—having silent shadows never far away.

Libya itself is vast—roughly three times the size of France—

One striking contrast: Libya is rich in oil, and when we visited, gasoline cost about ten cents per gallon.

We climbed atop an old tank from the revolution that overthrew Muammar Gaddafi, joining locals celebrating Arch of Septimius Severus that chapter of and layered with history. Over history with a centuries it has been shaped by military parade.

The real highlight of Libya lies beyond the capital.

We visited the ancient Roman cities of Leptis Magna and Sabratha—among the best-preserved Roman ruins in the world. Walking through Leptis Magna felt like stepping back two millennia. The city features grand arches, a basilica, and a massive amphitheater overlooking the sea. It was also the birthplace of Emperor Septimius Severus, one of Rome’s most powerful rulers.

Leptis Magna also boasts a stunning 16,000-seat theater, remarkably intact. Standing there, it was easy to imagine scenes

straight out of Ben-Hur IN THE EYES OF BRIAN or The Retinal specialist, writer, Gladiator. From the coast, we traveled southwest into the Sahara Desert to Ghadames, a historic oasis town near the Algerian border. Driving through endless desert, we eventually reached a simple barbed-wire fence marking the boundary. With a single step, we crossed into Algeria—no passport required in the middle of the Sahara.

It may be the easiest border crossing I’ll ever make.

Our journey ended in Tunis, Tunisia, where we explored the ancient ruins of Carthage, admired colorful doorways, and noticed one universal constant—cats seem to rule every Mediterranean city.

Three countries, countless stories, and another unforgettable father-son adventure.

Sometimes the places you’re warned about most turn out to be the ones you remember best.

Toyota Tundra TRD PRO Hybrid built for Texas, ready for Colorado Everything is bigger in Texas, and that certainly applies to the 2026 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro Hybrid 4x4 pickup tested this week.

Finished in eye-catching Wave Maker Blue paint and assembled in San Antonio, Texas, this full-size pickup is designed to handle just about anything a Colorado driver can throw at it. Whether cruising Interstate 70, pulling a trailer across the Eastern Plains or navigating a rocky mountain

trail on the way to a favorite fishing hole, the Tundra feels right at home.

Power comes from Toyota’s impressive i-FORCE MAX twin-turbocharged V-6 hybrid powertrain paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The combination delivers strong acceleration and plenty of power when merging onto highways or climbing steep mountain grades.

One of the most impressive features is the truck’s

versatility. Drivers can select Eco, Normal or Sport driving modes depending on conditions and personal preference.

For more adventurous outings, the Tundra offers specialized off-road settings, including crawl and multi-terrain modes that help the truck maintain traction on difficult surfaces.

The TRD Pro package adds serious off-road credibility. Riding on 18-inch aluminum wheels, the truck includes a TRD aluminum

skid plate to protect vital components when traversing rough terrain. A Multi-Terrain Monitor provides added confidence by helping drivers see obstacles that might otherwise be hidden from view.

For campers and outdoor enthusiasts, Toyota includes a 120-volt, 400-watt AC power outlet, making it easy to power equipment at a campsite or tailgate gathering. It is one of those thoughtful features owners will likely use more often than they initially expect.

Inside, the spacious CrewMax cab comfortably accommodates five passengers. The interior is roomy, comfortable and designed for long-distance travel. Despite its rugged capabilities, the Tundra proves to be a surprisingly comfortable highway cruiser.

Like many full-size pickups, however, size comes with a tradeoff. The Tundra’s large dimensions can make parking a challenge in crowded shopping centers, and its turning radius requires a bit more planning than smaller vehicles.

The manufacturer’s suggested retail price begins at $72,565. The tested vehicle included a TRD performance package priced at $2,999 along with additional equipment, bringing the final sticker price to $78,847.

After spending time behind the wheel, it is easy to understand why the Tundra has developed a loyal following. It is powerful, capable, comfortable and built to tackle nearly any task. From Colorado mountain trails to long stretches of interstate highway, this Texas-built warrior is ready for duty.
