It’s Just Sex

The other day, I saw a couple taking a photo next to a beautiful bronze statue of a fisherman. The photographer’s chants were “Grab his pole, now sit on it and see how it feels.” This was not an adolescent being vulgar; it was a retired grandfather. Soon after, while watching the news, a reporter interviewed Spring Breakers, many of whom said they wanted to get wasted and sleep with as many people as possible during this vacation week.

Sexual innuendo and vulgarity are obsequious. Lest I sound like a prude or puritan, I took some time to reflect.

What is it about sex that touches such a core part of who we are? It is certainly a deep longing for touch and connection, and an essential part of the life cycle. There is beauty and wonder in human intimacy that cannot be reduced to mechanics, impulse, performance, or casual exchanges. It arises when the heart, mind, body, and soul are in harmony, when affection, trust, and desire align. In a committed, loving, healthy relationship, sex becomes more than just an act. It becomes a language, an unspoken way of saying, I see you. I choose you. I am safe with you, and you are safe with me. When the heart is engaged, there is tenderness, an emotional openness that allows two people to be fully known. When the mind is aligned, there is respect, an understanding of boundaries, consent, and mutual care.

When the body joins in, there is passion, not frantic or empty, but grounded and alive. In that alignment, intimacy becomes deeply human.

When I think about the full spectrum of sex, at one end is rape, an act robbed of humanity, where power destroys dignity, and the body is used while the person is ignored.

It is violence, not intimacy.

Moving along that spectrum, there are encounters driven by manipulation, pressure, loneliness, or numbness. Sex becomes transactional, disconnected, or hollow, something done to satisfy selfish pleasure rather than to share a genuine oneness and connection. At the far end of the spectrum is romance, where intimacy is filled with love, commitment, and meaning. Here, sex is not taken; it is given. Not demanded but offered. Not empty, but sacred in its emotional significance.

So why, in a culture saturated with images, jokes, vulgarity, and casual references, do so many shrug and

say, “What’s the big deal? Is it just sex?” Perhaps it is because we have seen too much of its imitation and too little of its truth. When something profound is repeated without reverence, it begins to feel ordinary.

When sex is portrayed as casual, constant, and consequence-free, its emotional depth is dulled. It becomes background noise instead of a symphony. People begin to associate it with fleeting pleasure rather than a lasting connection.

Deep down, the human heart knows better. It knows the difference between being touched and being cherished.

Between being desired and being valued. Between being used and being loved. One

can feel it in the silence after a meaningless encounter, the quiet emptiness that lingers.

In the stillness after true intimacy, the sense of peace, closeness, and being fully seen and still fully accepted can be felt.

Sex is meaningful because every person matters. One’s body is connected to their heart and story. When the heart, mind, body, and soul align with someone who respects that connection, something special happens. Walls come down. Trust deepens.

Love expands.

Passover: A Brief History bread.

Passover lasts seven or Passover, known in Hebrew as Pesach, is one of the most significant observances in Judaism, commemorating the Israelites’ liberation from slavery in ancient Egypt. The story is rooted in the biblical book of Exodus, which recounts how Moses led the Israelites out of bondage under Pharaoh’s rule more than 3,000 years ago.

According to tradition, God sent a series of plagues

upon Egypt to compel Pharaoh to release the Israelites.

The final plague, the death of the firstborn, led to the ritual that gives Passover its name: Israelites marked their doorposts with lamb’s blood so the plague would “pass over” their homes. Pharaoh relented, and the Israelites fled in haste, not allowing time for their bread to rise. This is symbolized today by the eating of matzo, or unleavened

eight days, depending on tradition, and begins with a ceremonial meal called the Seder.

During the Seder, families retell the Exodus story using a text called the Haggadah, eat symbolic foods such as bitter herbs and charoset, and observe rituals that emphasize themes of freedom and remembrance.

Historically, Passover has evolved from an ancient pilgrimage festival tied to the

Temple in Jerusalem into a home-centered observance following the Temple’s destruction in 70 A.D. The holiday has remained a cornerstone of Jewish identity, reinforcing themes of resilience, faith and liberation across generations.

Today, Passover is celebrated by Jewish communities around the world, blending ancient ritual with modern interpretation while preserving its central message: the enduring pursuit of freedom.

Cherry Creek Chorale to Perform in Paris, France This June The Cherry Creek Chorale will travel to Paris, France, from June 19–24, 2026, to participate in an international choral residency culminating in a gala concert at the historic Saint-Sulpice Church.

During the residency, the Chorale will join choirs from across the United States for several days of rehearsals, cultural experiences, and collaborative music-making centered on the music of acclaimed composer Elaine Hagenberg. Singers will also have opportunities to meet Hagenberg during special events throughout the residency.

On June 22, the Cherry Creek Chorale will present its residency performance alongside fellow participating ensembles. The program will conclude on June 23 with a 9:00 p.m. Gala Concert at Saint-Sulpice Church, where all participating choirs will come together for a powerful collaborative performance.

The Lone Tree Arts Center announces a “Southern Decadence Luncheon” to be held on Tuesday, April 7. The luncheon will launch the LTAC’s upcoming production of the play Steel Magnolias which will run from April 9 – 19, 2026.

“We’re thrilled to host this first-time event, which will introduce theater lovers to our production of Steel Magnolias,” states Marcus Turner, the Lone Tree Arts Center’s Associate Director for External Relations. DePodesta takes a page from Monfort playbook Rockies season ticket-holders and others who support Denver’s Major League Baseball team by participating in various ticket packages are accustomed to receiving a communication from principal owner Dick Monfort, usually in October.

That’s what makes the email from Paul DePodesta, transmitted on the eve of this season, so noteworthy.

First, it was from him instead of Monfort.

Second, and more importantly, rather than reviewing another dismal, just-completed season, DePodesta was looking forward to his first season as Rockies President of Baseball Operations and what’s to come. “ . . . this winter we came together as an organization to define a clear vision of how we are going to climb to new heights.,” he wrote.

“At the foundation of that vision sits an environment rich with curiosity, continuous learning and a collaborative spirit. “. . . that vision has al-

ready begun to take shape in Arizona, where the energy and belief from our players and staff have been infectious. “ . . . we all recognize that this is going to be a climb.

Building a championship-caliber organization takes excellence in every aspect of baseball operations, from acquiring talent on all fronts, to developing our players beyond what they thought possible, to putting them in positions to succeed at the Major League level.

Colorado doesn’t have a winning record against the other franchise that began play in 1993. Miami held a 77-44 advantage in South Florida heading into this year’s season-opening series.

And led 128-116 overall.

And, unfortunately, after the weekend, DePodesta was still looking for his first Rockies victory.

The climb began with three one-run losses: 2-1, 4-3 and—on a two-out, tworun walk-off home run—43, again on Sunday. It was proof that things won’t turn around immediately; fans must be patient as DePodesta hints.

As a result of the weekend in Miami, the naysayers—those who don’t exhibit that energy, passion and

belief to which DePodesta refers in his email— will see this as more of the same, the start to another100-loss season. And they’ll say so.

But here’s a more realistic assessment of the Rockies’ first three games: Last weekend’s starting pitching was inadequate.

Freeland, Lorenzen and Quintana each lasted fourand-a-third innings. Their combined earned run average was 4.84 (seven earned runs in 13 innings). Starters must go deeper.

Even though relievers were the losers of record in the last two games, the bullpen was actually a strength, as predicted coming out of Arizona. Jimmy Herget, Brennan Bernardino, Antonio Senzatela and Zach Agnos did their jobs.

Seven runs in three games won’t win very often.

But a few hits, or in a couple of instances just an outfield fly, would have produced enough to win at least one game. In the three games, Rockies hitters were 4-for-20 with runners in scoring position.

Beyond that, the Rockies managed only seven hits in the opener and six in each of the other two. And the opposition was the Marlins, not

the Dodgers.

So, is all lost, just three games into DePodesta’s first season? Is the “climb” over before it sets out for new heights, as DePodesta suggested?

Hardly.

DePodesta, general manager Josh Byrnes, manager Warren Schaefer and his coaches, and more than the 26 players in uniform in Miami will learn from every game this season.

That’s what he meant when he wrote, “we all recognize that this is going to be a climb.”

The real question is how many of the 26 players in uniform last weekend will still be on the roster at the end of the season?

For that matter, how many of the Opening Day 26 will be on the roster when the rematch with Miami occurs in Denver? And who will win then? (The Rockies hold a 72-50 advantage in Denver.)

Primary ballot for Dems takes shape after Democratic State Assembly

D

emocratic delegates to their party’s 2026 State Assembly met on March 28 at Pueblo Memorial Hall in Pueblo, where they heard speeches from those seeking their support in the June 30 primary, then voted for their preferred candidates.

In Colorado, candidates get on the primary ballot through petition, state assembly, or a combination of both.

To get on the primary ballot by petition, candidates must get a specified number of valid signatures on petitions, from party members in their district.

To get on the primary ballot via the assembly process, candidates must receive at least 30% of the votes of delegates at the state assembly.

Candidates who submit a sufficient number of valid signatures on petitions, but choose to also run at the state assembly, must receive at least 10% of the votes at the assembly, or they lose the right to run in the party primary, despite having sufficient petition signatures.

Statewide Races

In the race for U.S. Senate, incumbent John Hickenlooper will face state Sen. Julie Gonzales in the June 30 primary. Hickenlooper used the petition process and Gonzales earned her spot via the state assembly.

With Hickenlooper not participating in the assembly, Gonzales got three-fourths of the votes cast.

Current Governor Jared Polis, Attorney General Phil Weiser, Secretary of State Jena Griswold, and State Treasurer Dave Young are all at the end of their second consecutive four-year term in those positions, and are ineligible to run for them again.

In the 2026 race for governor, Democrats Michael Bennet, currently a U.S. Senator, and Attorney General Phil Weiser will appear on the Democratic primary ballot on June 30. Bennet earned the right solely utilizing the petition process.

Weiser ran in the state assembly, where he received the votes of more than 90% of the delegates. In a statement issued after the vote, Weiser said, “The choice in the governor’s race is crys-

tal clear: Michael Bennet is the candidate of Washington, and I’m the candidate of Colorado. I’m not backed by out-of-state billionaires – I’m powered by the people of Colorado, and as governor, I’ll show up and fight for all Coloradans each and every day.”

Secretary of State Jena Griswold and attorney David Seligman, currently the director of a consumer-focused nonprofit, earned a spot on the primary ballot for Colorado Attorney General at the State Assembly, each garnering over 40% of the votes cast.

Michael Dougherty, current 20th Judicial District Attorney, received 18% of the ballots cast at the assembly.

He also submitted petitions to get on the ballot, which are still being reviewed. If they are deemed sufficient, Dougherty will also be a candidate for the Democratic nomination for Colorado Attorney General.

A fourth candidate, former federal prosecutor Hetal Doshi, did not run in the state assembly, but submitted petitions on March 4, which are also still being checked. If they are found to be sufficient, there will likely be four names on the Democratic primary ballot for Attorney General on June 30.

In the Democratic primary for Secretary of State to replace Griswold, attorney and current Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder Amanda Gonzalez, who garnered 63% of state assembly delegates’ support, will face Jefferson County State Senator Jessie Danielson, who received the votes of 37% of the delegates.

In the Democrats’ most straightforward competition for statewide office, current state Sen. Jeff Bridges will be the Democratic candidate for State Treasurer on November 3. He had two challengers for the nomination, state Rep. Brianna Titone, and business consultant John Mikos, both of whom fell just short of garnering the required 30% of delegates’ votes at the state assembly, so there won’t be a Democratic primary for that race.

Kellogg garnered 52% of the congressional assembly delegates’ votes to Romero’s 48%.

In CD5, which conducted its county assembly on March 14, attorney and U.S. Army veteran Jessica Killin will face business executive and decorated veteran Joe Reagan, who also served in the U.S. Army. At the assembly, Killin earned 40% of the vote to Reagan’s 34%.

Colorado’s newest and most closely divided congressional district, CD8,

will see three Democrats competing in the June 30 primary to try to unseat oneterm Republican U.S. Rep. Gabe Evans.

Former state Rep. Shannon Bird, who won election to the general assembly four times before resigning this year to run for Congress, and business executive and retired U.S. Marine Evan Munsing’s petitions were certified in early February as sufficient to gain them entry to the Democratic primary ballot. One-term state Rep. Manny Rutinel was the only candidate at the CD8 assembly, so he won the right to the primary ballot by acclamation.

Assemblies held on March 27, we know there will be competitive primaries in Congressional Districts one, three, five, and eight.

The incumbents in Congressional Districts two, six and seven—Joe Neguse (CD2), Jason Crow (CD6), and Brittany Petterson (CD7) have no challengers in their party.

The CD4 assembly is also competitive and will be held on April 2.

In CD1, 15-term Member of Congress Diana DeGette will face at least one and possibly two primary challengers on June 30. 28-yearold attorney and Democratic Socialist Melat Kiros got 157 votes, compared to DeGette’s 79 at the state assembly, earning Kiros the top line on the ballot. Also seeking a spot in the primary via the petition process is CU Regent Wanda James.

Her petitions are still being reviewed.

A whisper rippling from seat to seat: “She’s here.” And then, like a scene choreographed by the universe itself, Judi Wolf would glide into view — head high, red hair blazing, eyes sparkling with delight. She didn’t just attend the theatre. She transformed it. She made every moment an entrance, every arrival a celebration, every evening a tribute to the performing arts she so fiercely loved.

Following the passing of Judi Wolf on Wednesday, March 25, at her home surrounded by her loving family, the Denver arts community reflects on her life with nothing short of a standing ovation — one filled with gratitude, awe, and profound affection for a woman whose impact will echo across generations.

Early Roots of a Lifelong Love Affair with the Arts

Born and raised in Denver, Judi’s artistic education began early. Ballet and classical music were constants in her upbringing — foundations that would later shape her extraordinary advocacy for cultural organizations across Colorado. She graduated from East High School before pursuing studies at the University of California-Berkeley, Boston University and ultimately earning her Spanish degree from the Universidad de las Américas in Mexico City. She didn’t stop there — Judi later completed a master’s degree and extended doctoral studies in international relations at the University of Denver, all while teaching Spanish at Graland Country Day School often in dramatic periodic costumes as she taught Spanish language and Latin American culture.

Her worldliness, her intelligence, and her gift for connecting with people — often in their own language — became defining aspects of both her personal charm and her philanthropic influence.

The lavishly decorated Wolf Room is fashioned in the mediterranean style of her favorite home and retreat in La Jolla, California.

If you look carefully at the expansive mural on the wall you will find a red wolf frolicking in the landscape.

However, their most visible legacy shines brightest at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, where their generosity — and Judi’s infectious energy — changed nearly every corner of the organization. The couple’s lead gift to the DCPA’s “A Grander Opening” capital campaign sparked a fundraising rally that reimagined the organization’s flagship spaces. In gratitude, the former Stage Theatre was renamed the Marvin & Judi Wolf Theatre — a forever home for the dreams, creativity, and artistic excellence they championed.

“Participating in the Grander Opening capital campaign gave me a front-row seat to some of the most extraordinary generosity the DCPA has ever known, and no contribution was more pivotal than the lead gift from Marvin and Judi Wolf. Their vision, their love for the DCPA, and their unwavering belief in the power of worldclass theatre became the cornerstone of the campaign’s success.

Judi’s relationship with the DCPA evolved from her deep friendship with DCPA founder and visionary Donald Seawell to patron to ambassador to deeply involved community leader.

Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, she joined the DCPA’s Best of Broadway and Directors Society premium subscriber groups, volunteered with the Denver Center Alliance, sat on the Chairman’s Council, and was ultimately appointed to the DCPA Board of Trustees and the Helen G. Bonfils Foundation Board. Her leadership was instrumental in supporting local productions, expanding education and outreach programs, and advancing opportunities for underrepresented voices including for women, the disabled, and GLBTQ communities.

One of Judi’s most influential roles was as a Founding Member of the Women’s Voices Fund, the first endowment of its kind in the nation to support female playwrights and directors.

The fund now supports dozens of productions and continues to grow, a living embodiment of her values.

Beyond the DCPA, Judi served on boards for the Colorado Symphony, Central City Opera, the University of Denver Humanities Institute, and more. She was twice co-chair of the Colorado Performing Arts Festival and was honored as the Fine Arts Foundation Citizen of the Arts in 2012. Judi with her husband Marvin were also longtime supporters of the University of Colorado School of Law through scholarships, endowments, and the Wolf Law Building.

Her dedication was tireless. As colleagues often said, “When Judi commits, she gives 110 percent.”

After all, she once quipped, “Without costumes, a play is just…radio.”

It was not just clever — it was quintessentially Judi: witty, wise, and deeply true.

The Red Wolf: A Fiery Spirit

There was a reason friends called her “The Red Wolf” and her grandchildren called her “Red” (never Grandma!) Yes, there was the hair — impossibly vibrant, unmistakably hers. Yes, there was the lipstick, the gowns, the sparkle. But “red” was more than a color. It was her brand. Her energy. Her heat. Her unmistakable fire.

She floated into rooms, purred rather than spoke (as one friend teased), and radiated a joy that made you feel instantly welcomed, instantly seen. She

She didn’t merely dress for an event — she became part of the performance.

Above all, Judi believed theatre was transformative. That it could change lives. That it made communities and family stronger, richer, more empathetic. And she lived that belief with every board meeting, every fundraiser, every ribbon-cutting, every opening night.

As dramatic and effervescent as Judi was in the community, she was also the engine of her family as a matriarch, mother, grandmother, daughter, and loving, devoted wife. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin (2020) and her son Victor (2025) and leaves behind her sons Lance and Marco; her beloved grandchildren Grant, Devon, Logan, and Caleb; her daughters-in-love Susan and Paige, and countless artists, staff members, and patrons whose lives she touched with generosity and joy.

The Marvin & Judi Wolf Theatre now stands as a permanent tribute to the couple whose love story became intertwined with the story of the Denver Center. Its red seats — chosen personally by Judi — glow like an eternal flame, a nod to the woman who “came out of the womb in high heels,” who embraced life with boldness and laughter, and who made every entrance a moment to remember.

Judi Wolf will always be Denver’s leading lady.

And the lights of the theatre she helped build will continue to rise in her honor, night after night, for generations to come because, as Judi would say, “The show must go on!”

Dear Readers,

How do you fund your Revocable Living Trust?

If your estate plan includes a revocable living trust, it is important to fund the trust in the proper manner to ensure that your assets are distributed to the persons you intend to receive them. A revocable trust is a “will substitute” in that it is the document that determines who will receive your property after your passing.

You will continue to maintain control of your assets titled in the name of your revocable trust, just as you did before you signed your trust. You must observe certain procedures in order to assure yourself of the advantages of the trust.

Only assets transferred to the trust are controlled by the trust, and having too many or the wrong kind of assets titled outside the trust may require that your estate go through probate at your

death.

Thus, property titled in joint accounts, IRA’s, retirement accounts and proceeds of life insurance will not be included in your trust at your death unless title is properly transferred or proper beneficiary designations naming your trust or your estate as beneficiary are made prior to your death. Your pour-over Will directs that assets in your sole name (not assets held in joint ownership) will be subject to the terms of your trust.

In general, the trust name and the date the trust was signed should always appear in the title of assets transferred into your trust. If the name of your trustee is not required to be included in the title, the basic title recommended for use in holding assets of the trust is: “The John Doe Trust, dat-

ed March 27, 2026”.

If an institution requires that the name of the trustee be included in the title, then the title recommended for use in holding assets of the trust is: “The John Doe Trust, dated March 27, 2026, John Doe, as Trustee”.
