New sponsor for LCYO

Celebrate Lane Cove’s Coffee Culture

On Saturday 2nd September, Lane Cove Plaza will come alive as it celebrates the local coffee culture with Coffee Carnevale.

Now in its fourth year, the 2017 event will be Venetian Carnevale themed, featuring roving performers, free local samples, live art, face painting and children’s craft. There will be a Local Barista competition and the launch of the updated Lane Cove Coffee Guide.

Local cafés will be at the forefront of the celebrations, enticing residents to take advantage of a range of specials available for one day only.

NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto will be on hand to introduce their line of automatic coffee machines, allowing café quality coffee in the comfort of your home. There will be samples, a variety of hot beverage demonstrations and even discounts on their range of coffee systems.

There will also be a focus on sustainable coffee practices. Council’s Sustainability team and the Lane Cove Sustainability Action Group will be on hand to provide information and resources on how event-goers can decrease their environmental impact without sacrificing their daily caffeine dose.

The Lane Cove Coffee Guide for 2017-18 has been updated and over 30 coffee outlets are featured. It includes maps, descriptions and contact details for coffee haunts from Lane Cove West to Greenwich, Northwood and Riverview. The guide will be available to download from Council’s website www.lanecove.nsw.gov.au/carnevale or to collect at participating stores.

PROUDLY PRESENTED BY Mirvac fosters young talent

Mirvac builds quality homes while Lane Cove Youth Orchestra builds musical talent. Together they’re launching a program to help build a community embracing the arts and giving young people a worthwhile focus.

The Lane Cove Youth Orchestra is humming with the news that Mirvac has agreed to sponsor the group for the next two years. Thrilled orchestra manager, Lyndall McNally, says “it’s wonderful when business makes a social investment like this as it has so many flow-on advantages for the community”.

The sponsorship will provide bursaries to individual musicians, opening up opportunities to ensure the orchestra can continue to support young talent. It will also help boost numbers in under-represented instrument groups within the ensemble.

Mirvac Development Director Adrian Checchin, who is leading the team building St Leonards Square, said the company was delighted to be involved with a much-loved and respected community orchestra.

“Fostering young talent is absolutely essential to creating strong communities”, said Mr Checchin. “The Lane Cove Youth Orchestra has an outstanding reputation and we are right behind their efforts to offer places to a diverse group of gifted musicians.”

As the group assembled for the photo in Mirvac’s St Leonards sales office, Lane Cove’s Mayor Clr Deborah Hutchens, expressed on behalf of Lane Cove Council just SATURDAY how wonderful it is to see Mirvac recognising and supporting young talent in our community.
