Welcome to Neon Garden, Villa Academy's 2022 Benefit Auction!

Tonight, we celebrate and support Villa and our transformational mission, people, and programs. Everything we do tonight empowers our creative, thoughtful, curious students and teachers.

We are here tonight because we know Villa Academy is more than just a school—it's a remarkable ecosystem of nurturing educators and dedicated staff who inspire our students to blossom into bright, capable, and compassionate world citizens.

This evening, we pay tribute to what we sow together as a community. Every day, our campus challenges and encourages our children to cultivate their curiosity, germinate their ideas, and grow without limits. It brings me overwhelming joy to watch my children's confidence flourish at Villa, best exemplified by their skills mastery developed in each grade. For example, their 1st-grade Love Notes—creative, holistic, and social-emotional-focused reading and writing— only affirms Villa's valuable education.

Spring's seasonal arrival amplifies these feelings of growth —the opportunity to keep our school's roots nourished, resilient, and thriving serves as tonight's theme, as demonstrated by our beautiful Neon Garden.

Tonight, please join me in honoring the tireless efforts of dozens of volunteers and donors who made our Auction possible. I invite all of us to tend to our community garden, our beloved Villa, to contribute generously and invest in our people who nurture our children's futures. Together, our combined actions ensure a stronger present and more vibrant legacy.

If anything, the past two years have proven our community's strength as we have met unprecedented challenges with unprecedented vigor. Your unwavering support of Villa continues to serve as a shining light in our darkest of times. Indeed, your steadfast commitment burns brightly tonight—it's a palpable energy, the flashing neon all around us, the uncontainable joy in this room, and the gratitude we share.

We are all rooted in Villa, and the swell of our pride, motivated by the pursuit of excellence, will keep us firmly planted in what we know to be good and true. So, raise a toast and a paddle, celebrate each other, and make our garden bloom!

Of course, an auction and party of this magnitude do not simply occur—it takes a village of volunteers to produce such an exquisite event. Whether painting giant tree branches, gathering desserts for our dash, calling on neighborhood businesses, or donating fabulous items, every contribution worked in unison to make tonight so much fun for all of us.

Special recognition this year goes out to our gracious, organized, and hard-working auction chair, JoAnna Jose. She has steadfastly assembled and coordinated a collaborative team that made this evening possible. Thanks to her leadership, this event evolved from the seed of an idea to the lush, inspiring, magical moment that we are sharing together right now.

This year we also take great pleasure in welcoming our next Head of School, Dr. Liz Willis, to her first official Villa Auction. I encourage you to find a moment to say hello and become better acquainted.

Tonight’s Raise-the-Paddle will be dedicated to the Special Capital Campaign to raise funds to purchase an appropriate parcel of the Sisters’ land. Expanding upon Villa's property line is contingent upon the collective power of our generous community's participation—every dollar counts as much as everyone's involvement. Your support affords us the incredible opportunity to ensure that our commitment to excellence in whole-child education remains enriched by other permanent outdoor education experiences. Our affordability is a question of that power, not simply a parcel. The Land Task Force, serving as our trusted stewards, will leverage the total donation in Villa's best financial interests—our fundraising initiatives are more important than ever to put forth the strongest proposal. What we do together tonight will set the stage for current and future Villa students for generations to come.

Neon Garden is more than an auction this year—it's a long-overdue opportunity for our community to celebrate together and unify under this call to action to expand our beloved school's property line and envision a new legacy—a legacy that tonight’s themes of growth and light encapsulate remarkably.

It is with its iconic symbols, the flower and the polka dots, that Yayoi Kusama adorns La Grande 2012 gift box and bottle. The polka dots, Yayoi Kusama’s signature patterns, evoke the Champagne bubbles. Created in honor of Madame Clicquot, called “La Grande Dame de Champagne” in her time, La Grande Dame perfectly expresses the Maison’s love for Pinot Noir.

DeLille Cellars, a pioneer of Bordeaux-style blends, is considered a principal influence in establishing Washington as a premier viticultural region with a strong tradition of quality and excellence over it’s 29-year history.

Initial notes of white flowers on the nose, such as jasmine, honeysuckle, and vine flowers can be felt and then opens with fruitier nuances of apple, pear, and peach. A few notes of fresh almond and frangipane complete the bouquet. In the mouth, the cuvée reveals more complex aromas: dried apricot, hazelnuts, honey, and sugar candy. Silky textures give the wine its personality, elegance, and character. The aging has imparted particular depth and power to the wine.

With a slight preponderance of Pinot Noir in the blend, this wine is rich and impressive.
