LETTER FROM FACULTY ADVISORS

It has been such a pleasure working with the Lower School Art and Literary Club members on Unquowazine Volume 5. They have worked tirelessly on various stages of magazine development. This year they have included more original content in the form of book reviews, comics, and several interviews.

Together with their staff, Salma, William, and Grady reviewed much of the work themselves. They did an amazing job of being mindful of each student's work while honoring its authenticity. As their advisor, I guided them and gave them structure and support.

Kudos to all of their hard work and dedication!

5 INTRODUCTION

LETTER FROM THE EDITORS

Dear Readers,

Welcome to Unquowazine Vol. 5. We are glad to show you our fantastic magazine. We have been working hard to create this year's Unquowazine volume for the last couple of months.

We have collected a lot of amazing work from lower school students, from Pre-K to 4th. In Pre-K, they submitted to us their fabulous fairy tale reader responses. Kindergarten gave us everything, from Polar Bears to vacation reflections and MLK pieces. First grade gave us some fantastic opinion pieces and second grade wrote funny fractured fairy tales, book reviews, and animal fables. Third-grade submitted some wonderful book reviews, poetry, and non-fiction books. Finally, the fourth grade sent in informational writing and small moment pieces.

Finally, we would like to thank everyone for contributing to Unquowazine, including our staff. They contributed original work in the form of interviews, comics, and artwork. In addition, Claire and Lucia did an outstanding job on the cover. Lastly, we would like to thank Mrs. E for guiding us in making Unquowazine Volume 5.

Thank you for reading!

Interview with The Unquowa Chefs

The Chefs have been working very hard for years to make sure we have a delicious lunch to fill us up. They have been determined to make us happy every day.

Q: How do you know what to make for lunch everyday?

Chefs: We like to see what food is fresh and what the kids like.

Q: How long does it take to make lunch?

Chefs: We get to school at 6:00am and it takes us all the way to lunch time which is about 6 hours.

Q: How do you know what salad to make?

Chefs: It’s all about what the kids like. If it looks yummy we’ll make it.

Q: How many times do people come up for a refill of grilled cheese?

Chefs: A lot! One table came up for grilled cheese four times.

Q: How many grilled cheese sandwiches do you have to make?

Chefs: We usually make a total of 200 grilled cheeses.

119 EDITORIAL STAFF LANI, CLAIRE, POPPY UNQUOWAZINE REPORTERS

Q: How many dirty dishes are there at the end of the day?

Chefs: There are probably over 300 dirty dishes at the end of each day.

Q: Do you have to make larger quantities of servings for the upper school students instead of the lower school students

Chefs: Yes we do make larger quantities of servings for the upper school.

Q: How do you know the exact amount of food to make?

Chefs: We are all still working on understanding the quantities but lots of practice helps.

Q: How much red sauce do you have to make for pizza and pasta?

Chefs: We usually make 12 gallons of tomato sauce to use with the pizza, stromboli and pasta.

Q: Which dessert takes the longest?

Chefs: We bake our own deserts but buy our ice cream so the baked goods take more time.

Interview with Ms. Lauer

Fun Facts About Unquowa

Roving reporters William and Grady sat down with Mrs. Lauer, our head of school, and asked a number of informative questions about the history of Unquowa.

Question : Was Unq affected by WW2 and the Spanish Flu?

Ms. Lauer: One of the reasons UNQ was actually founded was because of the Spanish Flu. Parents wanted their children to go to an open air school so illnesses didn't spread as easily. Classes did get much smaller because of the great depression though. UNQ wasn’t affected by WW2 and in some ways WW2 even helped the economy, therefore helping UNQ.

Q: Why is the gator the mascot of UNQ?

Ms. Lauer: There is no evidence that the gator existed before the 1960s suggesting that UNQ didn’t always have a mascot. It is possible that a class was given the honor of choosing the mascot and there was a tennis shirt with an alligator on it that they liked and it simply stuck.

GRADY, WILLIAM UNQUOWAZINE REPORTERS

124 UNQUOWAZINE 2023

Q: How was UNQ founded?

Ms. Lauer: UNQ was founded by five families in 1917 that wanted their children to go to a school that learned by doing.

Q: When was the first winterfest and how was it started?

Ms. Lauer: The first winterfest was in 1980 and it was started by principal Mr McKinily and his wife.

Q: How has the school evolved since it was founded?

Ms. Lauer: It gradually became a tiny bit more traditional up until 2004 and then UNQ started trying to become a little bit more like it used to be.

Q: When and how did UNQ become a farm to table school?

Ms. Lauer: A few of the teachers went to a place that taught schools about sustainability. The people there told them to choose one thing to change about their school to help it become more sustainable, and UNQ chose to be a farm to table school.

Q: Did UNQ always have both mandarin and spanish?Ms. Lauer:

Ms. Lauer: At the start UNQ had neither Mandarin nor Spanish. Instead

125 EDITORIAL STAFF
GRADY, WILLIAM UNQUOWAZINE REPORTERS

they had Latin and French and then we had Spanish but we wanted a language that uses symbols instead of an alphabet

Q: How many grades did UNQ have originally?

Ms. Lauer: In the beginning UNQ had kindergarten through 8th grade, but later UNQ added 9th and maybe 10th, but then we went back and added Pre-K

Q:When and how did makerspace start?

Ms Lauer: 8 - 10 years ago Ms Lauer read about makerspace and she really wanted one but the area at that time was used as a library so they disassembled the shelves and put the books all over the school and then used that area as a makerspace.

Q: When and How did UNQ become a mindfulness school?Ms.

Lauer: About 15 years ago, someone came in to teach them how tomeditate and the teachers decided they wanted to teach their students too.

Chicken a Pet

Think of an animal that is cute and fun to play with You are probably thinking “oh it's going be a cat or a dog”, but no I am talking about chickens! In this essay you will learn how to take care of chickens as pets. And some fun facts like chickens have great memories I bet you didn't know that.

Wha t Fee Chicken

Chickens can eat many types of foods but they usually eat a type of food that is mostly made with grains that are mixed together. Chickens also like dried bugs. I know it's pretty disgusting, but chickens eat it like a treat just like how we eat ice cream as a treat.

128 UNQUOWAZINE 2023

AVERY GRADE 4

You can also feed chickens real food, and by that I do not mean french fries. I mean like soft fruit and veggies BUT DO NOT FEED THEM BEANS! Chickens are allergic to beans and chocolate and many other foods.

You should clean a chicken coop usually once a month or once a year but if it starts to get really STINKY then you should probably clean the coop The fresher the coop the better To clean a coop you need a shovel and a trash bag. You then shovel out all the yucky hay out of the coop and into the trash bag. After that you should put the new hay in. Then you have a fresh coop.

Did you know that chickens can recognize over 100 faces ! There are over 34.4 billion chickens in the world! Here's a crazy one Did you know that chickens can DREAM just like us! Did you know the mohawk looking thing on their heads is called a comb and the thing under their beak is called a wattle It's crazy how much we don't know about chickens

129 AVERY GRADE 4 GRADE 4 — FOR YOUR INFORMATION 2

Conclusion

Overall I love having chickens as pets and I think you would love them too! They may be an interesting pet to have but it's pretty cool to have them as pets. They are

really fun to play with and to chase them around your yard (if you have one).

Glossary:

Perch- Something chickens stand or lay on

Comb- the spikey thing on top of their head

Wattle- the roundish thing under their beak

Coop- a chicken house

Realistic Fiction Story

Mrs. E

Lily

You could say Callie was like any other fourth-grade girl. She had long wavy amber hair, (which she decided to dye scarlet at the ends), teal eyes, and freckles. The only reason she wasn’t all that normal was because of her crazy love for nature. Callie tended to do crazy things because of this. For example, she would sit in the woods for hours, feed squirrels, make fairy houses, and so on.

The story I am about to tell you is about an event that changed her life and gave her memories forever. Enjoy!

“You and Fitz have to come to my New York house for a sleepover!,” said Callie; she just couldn't stop the bubbling excitement coming up on her. “I knoow!,” ”I'll ask my mom,” Leah said.

Callie and her friend Leah were in school and had just finished recess. It was a bright spring day, sunshine streamed through the windows and students crowded the busy hallway.

131 LUCIA GRADE 4 GRADE 4 — FOR YOUR INFORMATION

“But does Fitz have to come?” “Yep,” Callie said. “he’s my friend too.”

“Hmph fine but I get dibs on which bed I sleep in because I'm your best friend,” said Leah. “I won’t make any promises! and besides, I should get first dibs because it's my house!”Callie declared. “yes but I'm the guest so ha,” said Leah with a sly look on her face.

Callie glanced at her watch. She was worried about being late for class again. “Leah I have to go, I’m late for class again,” Callie told Leah. “You're always late,”grumbled Leah.”Whatevs see ya at lunch!,” shouted Callie as she shot down the hall. “Enjoy getting yelled at by Mr. Jonson you know he likes getting you in trouble!,” Leah hollered back. The girls said goodbye and Callie trudged off to class thinking to herself; “Ugh I hate being late, this is Leah’s fault for slowing me down. How am I going to make it through school?”

But Callie did get through the school day and Leah asked her mom for a sleepover, Fitz asked his parents, and it all worked out.

Finally, they were on the road on the way to Callie’s house in New York state.“I’m so excited to go to Callie’s house in New York,” Fitz squealed, he looked like he was going to burst; he was so excited! “Thanks for bringing us Cal,” Leah said. Fitz was a quiet, kind and happy friend and he tended to wonder how other people were feeling and if he could make them feel better.

LUCIA GRADE 4

“Ouch” thought Callie,” my seat is sizzling hot and it smells like pringles!” “I don't smell any pringles,” laughed Fitz. “I said that out loud?”

“YES!” Laughed Leah. Callie was going to die of embarrassment! “Oh look, we're here!,”Callie's mom Isabella said. Callie shot her a look that said THANK YOU and they all got out of the car. Callie stared out the house in awe. It had improved so much since the last time she was here!

“Let's go inside,” Isabella said, 1 and pushed the door open. “Oh. my. Gosh. this place is giant!,” Leah gasped.”This is literally like my dream house!” “Yea it's amazing!,” Fitz said.”Thanks guys,” said Callie. “What do you kiddos want for dinner?,” asked Isabella. “I don't really care,” Leah said, “but thanks for asking” CHILI CHILI CHILI CHILI Callie’s brain screamed. “Callie?,” her mom said, taking her away from her thoughts.

“Oh, ummm chili?,” “OK!” Callie's mom said. Fitz giggled “”shush!” scowled Callie. “I'm tired ok???”.

Callie yawned and sat up only to.. BANG HER HEAD ON THE CEILING

“whyyy,” she mumbled. It was 6:00 in the morning, she was still half asleep, felt so groggy and now her head was throbbing thanks to her clumsiness! They had to be up early in order to get to a festival. “Having trouble?” smirked Leah who had gotten the bottom bunk where the ceiling was higher. ”Help me wake Fitz up,” she whispered . ” yea well I don't want to disturb him” Callie argued.

“Come on, it will be fun!” whispered Leah, “nope”whispered Callie “i’ll just do it myself then“said Leah with an evil laugh and disappeared behind the bed. she smirked, pulling something out of her bag and Callie heard the honk of a horn TWEET! And with that Leah emerged with the most smug look on her face. “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!,” Fitz screamed at the top of his lungs and they all burst out laughing!

Later in the day, Callie’s mom took them to a festival with rides and food trucks. “I like this place, those tacos were good,” Fitz said. “Yea they were,” said Callie. “There are also a lot of bikers here and they don't seem so nice,” Leah said with a hint of fear in her voice. It was true there were a bunch of rowdy boys biking around the park. Callie was still a little grumpy because they all had to wake up so early to get to the festival!

We’re all better bikers then them all combined,”Callie giggled. And all of a sudden… “CALLIE!,” Leah screamed. “YOU'RE GOING TO STEP ON A BABY CHIPMUNK!” “WHOA!” “WHAT THE HECK!” shrieked Callie. But unfortunately the boys biking heard her scream and came over, laughing.

”A baby chipmunk?,” one of them growled. “ Care to let us squish it for you? “Don't. you. step. any. closer.,” growled Callie, Willing her voice not to crack. “You think we’re scared of you?,” Because you're sorely mistaken” laughed a second boy. “LEAVE IT ALONE!” shrieked Fitz and threw a rock at his bike wheel. The boy took one look at Fitz in sheer surprise and ran like he’d never ran before!

Fitz, Callie, and Leah all took one look at each other and burst out laughing. “What should we name the chipmunk?,” asked Fitz. “Lily because I think it's a girl.,” Stated Leah. “Fine,” sighed Fitz.

Callie was so worried! How would the chipmunk survive without them!? It hadn’t even opened its eyes yet and couldn't even walk! Callie was sitting on her bed and worrying up a storm while Fitz and Leah were downstairs. She felt like the walls of her bedroom were closing in on her, It just wasn't fair the way nature worked! She wished she could just wave a magic wand and everything would be better! She just couldn't stop worrying, and her face felt hot and sticky from crying. Suddenly, Fitz opened the door with a golden smile on his face. “Callie!,” he said. “We talked to your parents and we can take Lily home!” Callie had never felt happier!

Koalas

The Furry Animal Koala

Did you know a Koala’s diet is eating poisonous, hard, leaves off their beloved tree’s? They can eat a huge amount and be unharmed when humans can’t even take a nibble!

This essay is all about these fascinating creatures of what they do, what they eat, and where they live!

Read to the end to learn more about Koalas!

Chapter 1 - WHAT ARE KOALAS?

Koalas or a Koala bear are marsupials that live in eucalyptus forests in eastern Australia.

136 UNQUOWAZINE 2023
1
ALYSA GRADE 4

Koalas are mostly found in tall eucalyptus trees so that they can stay away from danger. Juvenile Koalas are called joeys. They live in a small pouch, when they are born. Joeys are born blind, and earless, so they have to use their sense, smell, and touch instead of their eyes. Do these animals remind you of another animal? Yes! Koalas are exactly like kangaroos! Juveniles are called joeys, and mama kangaroos have pouches! That’s because they’re both endemic to Australia and they’re both marsupials!

When you see a Koala, you may probably see them sleeping. They are so lazy, they sleep about 20 hours each day! The tree’s are really important to a Koala’s habitat, not only because it’s where they sleep, but it is important to every animal in Australia. But sadly their home is most likely to have bushfires. Almost 80% of koala habitat has been lost because of these bushfires, most people think of Koalas as endangered species.

137 ALYSA GRADE 4 GRADE 4 — FOR YOUR INFORMATION 2

But actually, Koalas are vulnerable species, not endangered ones. Do you know why these animals are called the Koala bear? Because they look like small bears they are recognisable, because you can tell by their stout, tailless body, and their big head, with their big round fluffy ears, and oval shaped nose.

Chapter 2 - WHAT DO KOALAS EAT?

A Koala's diet is to eat in their eucalyptus woodland trees. The leaves from their trees make most of their diet. They eat leaves off their trees, and they get water from the rain. This diet has limited

nutrition, and caloric content, because the leaves are hard and poisonous, it could be impossible for them! So, the Koalas have to take it apart, bit by bit, and they digest it by their organ, called cecum Cecum, the organ that helps them digest the food, takes the piece of food, and dissolves the poison, so they come out unharmed. The leaves they eat are called the eucalyptus agglomerata or aka the blue-leaved stringybark, which is the type of leaves

Koalas eat. They come from their trees which are endemic to eastern Australia. It has a persistent, stringybark, white cream coloured flowers, and packed, flattened hemispherical fruit inside.

It was formally described in 1992 by a man called Joseph Maiden. The type of specimen was collected in 1896 by Maiden from “Hill Top” in the Southern Highlands district of New South Wales. The specific agglomerata is a Latin adjective for “balled” or “gathered into a mass.”

Chapter 3 - HISTORY ABOUT KOALAS

Chapter 3 - HISTORY ABOUT KOALAS

Koalas first evolved on the Australian continent during the period of when Australia began to slip off slowly northward separating from the Antarctic land mass 45 million years ago. The fossil remains of Koalas have been dating back 25 million years ago as the climate in Australia has changed. Australia became an even drier or vegetation continent that evolved to what we know as eucalyptus that became a Koala’s food source.

Indigenous people in Australia are thought to have arrived 60,000 years ago, or more. Koalas, and all Australian animals, were an important part of Aboriginal culture and featured in many of their myths and legends to Australia.

They were ready to be an available source of food, but they were abundant over the range before the arrival of Europeans with the First Fleet in 1788.

The specific agglomerata is a Latin adjective for “balled” or “gathered into a mass.”

Price was the first European to record these animals. He described them in his account of journey to the Blue Mountains near Sydney in 1798. He gave them their scientific name, phascolarctos cinereus.

Conclusion

Koalas are really remarkable creatures with their diet, history and habitat! Now that you know about these animals and want to see them in real life, you could visit them, or even hold them in Queensland Australia. You can also feed their fellow friends, kangaroos and wallabies. You’ll probably see the koalas sleeping though. But that means they’ll sleep in your arms if you hold them! This story starts in a small town outside Silicon Valley in San Dovic Public School Rriiiinnngg the bell rang, and the students rushed out of class and into the gym to see who had made the winter sports teams. There he is, Dak!

Dak pushed his messy, brown hair out of his face, and he checked if he had made the school basketball team.

“Nate... Jeff, … Jason,.. Zac.” but not Dak.

“Hey punk,” said Jeff (stupidly), who happened to be a moron and a jerk. “Looks like someone didn’t make the team. Well, I’m glad I won't have to pass to you. . ”

So Dak started to trudge home, but someone stopped him “Hey, man, I know you didn’t make the team, but nor did I, and the town team still has spots,” it was Alfonzo Alfonzo is Dak's best friend “Bro, if I somehow make the team, what are the odds I get playing time?” said Dak. “Man, you ' re amazing. Voices flashed in his head, past coaches, friends, and teammates. But they all said the same thing “ YOU ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH!.,” they all said it over and over and over and over

That weekend He went to town team tryouts. They had three things you had to do: number one shooting, number two layup, and number three defense. Shooting, they started inside the ark with a simple free throw. He drained it a three-pointer swish, and finally, something from range just came up short So he moved on to the layup. He quickly made them Defense He had to stay with one of the coaches, which he did Easley , then he blocked one of the coach's shots which for a kid who's like 6 ft 5, that's crazy easy, and then finally, the steel he didn't exactly do that very well. But in the end, he was second starting small forward when they posted the names.

He went home with renewed energy knowing he had made the team But there was still a whole season to play, so he went home and practiced.

Tuesday the following week was their first game, though because Dak was new, he would sit on the bench to start. Their star Jake won the tip against The Tiburon Tigers, so the San Dovic Dolphins would have possession first Alfonso dribbled it to the three-point line and dished it to Jake on the inside for an easy layup But Tiburon came roaring up the court and went in for an easy one-handed dunk. Alfonso took it up the court again and lobbed it to Alex, but Tiburon stole it. Their star was wide open at the 3-point line, and splash it was good. This time Jake passed it to his point guard David. David rushed to the paint, but Tiburon rejected it and ran up the court and went in for a two-handed reverse San Dovic time out

The coach tried to figure out who he was going to sub out. He said, “Dak, you ' re in.” The buzzer sounded, the time-out was over. Alfonzo takes it up, he passes to Dak.

The school team was the third seed but Dak swept them in the second round They faced the Silicon Valley All-Stars They won in the division finals. They faced The Minneapolis Lynx. He swept them to! Now colleges were looking into him Then they went down to Orlando That was where the finals would be. They would face the Atlanta All Stars. They were the favorite to win the AAU championship. The championship was one game. Whoever won it, won it all.

It was a blowout at the end of the first half. The score was 58 to 40 Atlanta. When their coach walked into the locker room, he said, “Forget the scoreboard Forget it. I don't care what the score is. summer, and fall. You can ride some tame rides, fast rides, and some parks have a special ride called a roller coaster A roller coaster has a very small train on tracks You can make roller coasters with wood and steel. The middle of a coaster is called a spine. The way a roller coaster works is that the train climbs a chainlift all the way up to the peak, and then gravity pulls you down the drop, then you level out near the ground, and reach back up again A chainlift is a type of chain that lifts the train all the way up to the top of the roller coaster drop. Some coasters can be good or bad You can make roller coasters over 100 miles per hour, or over 400 feet

Some roller coasters are for little kids, and some can be for thrillseekers that want to ride very scary roller coasters There are a lot of types of roller coasters You can even stand up on some roller coasters, but those types of rides are not good for your body I recommend you don't ride these, because they are the worst roller coaster type, and have not built another one since 1999.

Chapter 2 - The History of Roller Coasters

The history of roller coasters can be found in Coney Island, New york. A man named LaMarcus Adna Thompson created the first roller coaster called the “Switchback Railway”. The Switchback Railway was a roller coaster that had

People were complaining about the New England Cyclone’s roughness getting worse and worse So Six Flags New England added trim brakes and shortened the drop by 50 feet This still did not fix things, and at one point, the ride was shut down. In 2015, Six Flags New England announced that they would turn the ride into the smoothest roller coaster in the world. Summer

At Unquowa this summer, Lucia and I went to nature camp together. On the first day of camp, when I got there. I was last, and everyone was waiting at the tables in the second grade classroom. I was surprised when the counselor was Chef Will! I was not only with Lucia, but I was also with Lucie, my classmate, and Jackson, an old second grader.

It was bright in the room and hot outside. Chef Will said that we could make fairy houses, and everyone got a wave of excitement. “But where would we put it?” asked Jackson. “How about we look somewhere?”

Lucia offered. Everyone agreed and we all headed toward the door that led to the playground.

We went past the playground and the stage to a green fence leading to the back of the woods. Chef will opened up the gate and held it open for all of us. We all ran in and started searching for a place to build “How about that tree over there?” I asked Lucia. “Sure!” she answered. We then ran around looking for things to build with.

I found a big piece of bark for the roof, and Lucia gathered sticks. Then we started on the exterior. Once we finished the outside, I got the idea

of putting a pool. So we got to work. It was hard to dig, but we did it In the end. We made a little fairy bench and put some leaves for floats. But soon after, it dried up, and I thought, “we can just make it a mud pool!” I said it was a very good idea and that's what we did. It was really fun crafting. We got very messy, though. Lucia wanted to add more water, so I let her.

We went to the steep little downward hill that went into the water. I held on to Lucia with all my might, but she slipped and got close to falling in. She was able to get back up, but it was too late. All the water had spilled in the progress. There was only a drop left in the cup.

I got Lucia to go back down, and we got enough water on the second try. We put the water in the little puddle hole, which just dried up a minute later. Sadly it was time to go, so we headed back into the building and out the front door. “Over here!’ I yelled to Lucia because she was a little behind. “Gosh, I'm coming,” she yelled back. Then I saw my mom's car pull up in the front. I opened the car door with a big smile on my face. I got in and told my mom every detail of the day.

History of the Electron

The German physicist Johann Wilhelm Hittorf studied electrical conductivity in rarefied gasses Later, in 1869 he discovered a glow coming from the cathode that increased in size with decrease in gas pressure.

In 1876, the German physicist Eugen Goldstein figured out that the rays from this glow cast a shadow, and he called them cathode rays Later Sir William

The Electron and its Atomic Bonds

The electron is completely responsible for atomic bonds and holding atoms together There are many different types of atomic bonds For example, the single bond which looks like two electrons orbiting different atom nuclei that are stuck together It is the same thing with double and triple bonds except more electrons from the two atoms are stuck together

The Electron and its Negative Charge

The electron is the only subatomic particle with a negative charge. The negative charge is what attracts the electron to the proton in the nucleus. The nucleus is made out of one or more protons which have a positive charge and zero or more neutrons which have no charge So technically electromagnetism holds atoms and almost everything we know together

The Electron Today

Today the electron is important in many ways. The main one obviously is holding atoms together but the electron comes in handy with many other things too For example, it is the only source of negative charge humans have found, so it is essential for using electromagnetic energy (electromagnetism)

Conclusion

The electron is a fascinating thing to learn about and now you know the basics! So stay tuned for Intermediate Facts About the Electron! Also remember never try to break down an electron, it won’t work because the electron is an elementary particle! Bye bye!

The reason for this is that whenever he got the slightest bit angry or frustrated, his dad sent him to his room and made him do extra chores for a week, so all of his anger was built up inside of him. Also, he was forced to wear dull, gray clothes, because his dad had said in his own words that “Only a madman would wear anything but gray, black, and white.”

One morning at breakfast, Hank’s dad said gruffly, “Child, we’re moving to Massachusetts tomorrow. Go pack up your things.”

“Yes, father,” Hank said with an internal sigh.

One day when Frank walked into class, he knew that something was off. Once everyone settled into their seats, Mrs. Cooper, his homeroom teacher, made an announcement.

“We have a new student joining us today, and his name is Hank.”

Over the next few days, Frank and Hank became fast friends. They did splendidly unpleasant things together, such as:

● Sneaking peanuts and other common allergens into kids’ lunches

● Sprinkling itching powder into everyone's gym clothes

● “Accidentally” letting a spider free in their homeroom

● And much, much more. …

A few weeks later the two children snuck off to the park while they were supposed to be doing chores to meet behind some pondweed.

“I was thinking,” said Hank.

“What?” asked Frank.

“I was thinking that it’s about time to do something big.” Hank replied.

“You mean like the spider?” Frank said.

“ No, I mean bigger.” Hank said.

And with that the children planned everything carefully out until it was time to go to bed. …

The next morning, they set their plot into action.

“Mrs. Cooper,” Frank said during math.

“Yes?” answered Mrs. Cooper.

“Idon’tfeelwell,” He mumbled.

“May I please go to the nurse?” He asked.

“Yes, yes.” answered Mrs. Cooper.

A few minutes later, Hank asked to go to the bathroom.

“May I please use the restroom?” He asked.

“Yes, yes.” answered Mrs. Cooper

Of course, neither of them went where they were supposed to.

As they giggled over how easily they got away, the time was ticking. Hank was the first to realize how quickly time sped on, and he told Frank to keep moving. The two children crept toward the principal's office as

quickly as they could. They knew that she would be out this morning because of some kind of secret meeting because they had eavesdropped while she was on the phone during lunch.

The children slowly cracked open the door and leapt into the room. The two of them sifted through the files until they found what they were looking for.

“Aha!” whispered Frank.

“Did you find it?” asked Hank.

“Yup,” replied Frank.

The children had found a paper that approved their principal to move into the house next to the school.

While Frank checked to make sure it was real, Hank whipped out his water bottle. He carefully trickled water onto the paper until you could barely read it. Frank gently put it back into its file and the boys went back to the classroom, but Frank stopped by at the nurses office in case their teacher checked in with her.

A few months later, when the principal was scheduled to move, school was canceled because the principal was interrogating all of the staff, students, and visitors that were there the day that Frank and Hank got water on the paper. When it was the boys’ turn, they lied and Hank said

that he was in the loo, and Frank said that he was in the nurse's office, and both were let free.

As the days passed by, the boys felt more and more guilty. Soon, the guilt was so unbearable that they could not go to school. While their parents went shopping, they decided to admit that they had done it. The next day at school during assembly, they said they had an announcement.

“As you know, some water has gotten onto a very important piece of paperwork belonging to the principal,” said Frank.

“And we are the ones who did it,” said Hank. “We are very sorry.” he said, and they both sat back down in their seats. As soon as they got home, they were punished very severely, and that is how this story goes.
