A Degree of Distinction The University of Scranton, a Catholic and Jesuit institution, is known for many things, especially academic prestige, exceptional sense of community, and state-of-the-art facilities and technology. Founded in 1888, the University offers 66 undergraduate and 26 graduate academic programs of study. The total student body population is approximately 6,000 students, and there are 130 international students from 20 countries.

• Official transcripts (with certified English translation) showing all secondary and post-secondary courses and grades

• Letter of recommendation

• Official certificate of finances/scholarship letter

• Personal statement

Tuition & Fees

All international students are required to submit an official certificate of finances in order to be granted full admission and receive the form I-20. For additional information on the necessary amount of assured financial support, please visit www.scranton.edu/international

English Proficiency Applicants that are from non-English speaking countries are required to submit proof of English proficiency.

Some academic programs require a higher proof of English proficiency. This proof can be achieved in a number of ways: • Submission of an official TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of at least 61 on the Internet-based test or 500 on the paper-based test.

• Submission of an official IELTS (International English Language Testing System) minimum score of overall Band 6.0.

• Submission of an official STEP (Society for Testing English Proficiency) score of at least Pre-1st grade.

This exam is offered exclusively to Japanese students by the Society for Testing English Proficiency.

• Attendance at an ELS Language Center with completion of level 112. www.els.edu • Attendance at the English Language Institute at the University of Delaware with completion of academic Level 6 with grades of B or higher. http://sites.udel.edu/eli/ • Attendance at a center within The Language Company with successful completion of Level 9. www.thelanguagecompany.com

PLEASE NOTE: International students should apply to the term that they will begin their undergraduate program.

If you require an English transition program, please apply to The University of Scranton for the term in which your English transition program will be completed and you are ready to begin academic coursework.

International Clubs & Activities The University of Scranton, through the Student Affairs Division, actively sponsors many programs and services for students. In addition to these programs, international students have opportunities to participate in programs sponsored by the International Student Club, the Saudi Student Club and also many other special interest clubs. The International Student Club meets frequently on various topics including cultural exchange, immigration-related issues, and the Global Dialog Series. During the academic year, the International Student Club sponsors bus trips to nearby cities such as New York City, New York; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Washington, D.C., with many opportunities for sightseeing, shopping, and entertainment.

Every semester, as part of the orientation program, The International Student and Scholar Services Office, in collaboration with the International Student Club will plan a Welcome Gathering, which will bring new and current students together as an effort to better connect new students to the University community. International students are also invited to participate in the International Friendship Program. Through this Friendship Program, international students have the opportunity to be hosted by the University community and learn more about the American way of life.
