RELIGIOUS NEWS, STORIES AND CHURCH EVENTS

International worship leader, Chandler Moore

Chandler Moore announced for major Nassau worship experience By JEFFARAH GIBSON Tribune Features Writer jgibson@tribunemedia.net INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed gospel singer and worship leader Chandler Moore is making his way to The Bahamas, recently announced by YBE Promotions. The organisers believe the event scheduled for February 2026 will be one of the largest gospel worship events. Moore will headline “I Shall Not Want,” a live worship experience scheduled

for February 27 at the Beach Soccer Stadium. The event is being produced in partnership with New Birth Missionary Baptist Church. Moore is best known as one of the leading voices in contemporary gospel music and worship. A native of South Carolina, he rose to international prominence through his work with Maverick City Music, a collective that helped reshape modern worship with a sound rooted in authenticity, diversity, and raw spiritual expression. His music - including chart-topping worship

anthems - has resonated with millions worldwide, earning multiple awards and critical acclaim. Beyond his vocal talent, Moore is widely respected for his transparency and testimony, often sharing openly about faith, personal growth, and redemption. His ministry has connected strongly with younger audiences while remaining deeply rooted in traditional gospel values, making him a bridge between generations within the church. Beloved by many in the local gospel community, Moore has built a strong following in The Bahamas, where his music is frequently featured in worship settings, church services, and gospel events. Organisers said his visit to The Bahamas reflects both his popularity and the growing appetite for large-scale worship experiences in the country. “This will be a night of breakthrough worship and unforgettable moments. Don’t miss the most anticipated gospel events of 2026.” The February event follows another major gospel presentation hosted by the same organisers earlier this year. In January, international worship leader Naomi Raine was brought to The Bahamas, drawing a strong turnout and reinforcing local interest in global gospel artists. Premium sky pods and table packages will be available for “I Shall Not Want,” with organisers encouraging early inquiries due to anticipated demand. Additional information, including ticket sales and supporting acts, is expected to be released in the coming months. For more information contact 242-357-0116 or 242 427-8111.

FAMILY CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS By JEFFARAH GIBSON Tribune Features Writer jgibson@tribunemedia.net FOR many Christian families, Christmas is about far more than exchanging gifts or moving from one festive event to the next. Across The Bahamas, households are intentionally pausing amid the busyness of the season to centre their celebrations on the birth of Jesus Christ - using long-standing and newly formed traditions to keep faith at the forefront. Several families told Tribune Religion that these practices help them slow down, refocus, and reconnect with what they believe is the true meaning of Christmas, even as the demands of shopping, social gatherings, and end-of-year obligations intensify. Revisiting the birth story For the Burrows family, the days leading up to Christmas include dedicated time set aside to read and reflect on the biblical account of Jesus’ birth. Each year, the family approaches the familiar story with fresh perspective. “No matter how many times we’ve heard or read it, we make a point of sitting together and looking at the story through new eyes,” said Tom Burrows, speaking on behalf of his family. “There’s always something new that stands out.” He added that the practice serves as a grounding moment during a season filled with distractions. “There’s so much competing for our attention now and this helps us stay focused on what truly matters.” Giving as a family practice For the Curry family, Christmas is marked by intentional generosity. Long before December arrives, they begin preparing not just to receive but to give.

Mavis Curry explained that the family sets aside money monthly, beginning toward the end of summer, specifically for charitable giving during the holiday season. “That savings isn’t for gifts. It’s for giving.” She noted that the tradition reflects the core message of the Christmas story. “This season is about celebrating the fact that God gave the greatest gift. We believe the best way to honour that is by giving freely and allowing God to guide us on where and how to give.” CHRISTMAS CAROLLING Music also plays a central role in many households. For the Thompson family, Christmas includes a night dedicated to carolling with a focus on songs that reflect the story of Christ. “We don’t focus on secular music that night,” said Mildred Thompson. “We sing songs about Jesus’ birth and God’s love.” She said the tradition often evolves into extended moments of praise and worship. “Those nights are always fulfilling,” she said. “Sometimes we’re moved to tears just reflecting on all God has done for us as a family.” Praying Beyond the Household The Mitchell family marks the season by turning outward, creating prayer lists for families and individuals they know may be struggling. The family believes one of the greatest ways to show love is through prayer according to Don Mitchell. Christmas he said reminds them of God’s love for people. “We try to reflect that by lifting others up.” He encouraged families to pray together, noting the impact it can have. “When families pray together, something powerful happens as it has the power to strengthen the household and creates lasting influence.

SENIORS CELEBRATED AT BAIN AND GRANTS TOWN CHRISTMAS PARTY THE spirit of Christmas was alive and well in Bain and Grants Town as Mount Olive Baptist Church, in partnership with the Bain Grants Town Advancement Association, hosted a heart-warming Christmas party for senior citizens in the community. Scores of seniors turned out for the special gathering, enjoying an afternoon filled with laughter, fellowship, and the joyful sounds of the season. The event, held on Saturday, December 13, created a welcoming space where elders were celebrated, spirits were lifted, and the true meaning of Christmas was shared. The programme featured Christmas carols, warm greetings, and well wishes for a bright and prosperous holiday season. Each senior in attendance received a Christmas lunch, made possible through the generous support of Hands for Hunger, which teamed up with church members and association volunteers to ensure that every guest enjoyed a hearty and nourishing meal. Mount Olive Baptist Church is pastored by Reverend CB Moss, who, along with his wife Fransisca Moss, has faithfully served the Bain and Grants Town community for nearly five decades. Their long-standing commitment to outreach and service has made Mount Olive a cornerstone of support in the inner-city community, which is rich in culture, resilience, and heart. Beyond seasonal events, Mount Olive Baptist Church continues to meet practical needs year-round, providing food, clothing, and books to residents who need assistance. Through its weekly food drive, groceries are distributed to families, seniors, and those facing illness or hardship. In the past, the church also operated a delivery bus to transport groceries directly to seniors and shut-ins; however, that vehicle has since become unusable. Church leaders are now appealing to the public for assistance in

acquiring a new van so this vital service can continue. One of the highlights of Saturday’s celebration was a lively marching band performance led by children from the community. The band was formed by Police Inspector Keva Major, a former resident of the area, who pours into the children to help them on a positive path for the future. The young musicians delighted the audience as they proudly played Christmas favourites, with the little drummer boys adding a particularly touching and festive flair. Their performance brought smiles across the room and underscored the importance of passing traditions from one generation to the next. Addressing the gathering, Reverend Moss reminded attendees that “Jesus is the

reason for the season.” He spoke about the birth of Jesus as the foundation of forgiveness, redemption, and hope, encouraging residents to live righteously, do good to others, and follow biblical principles. Reverend Moss shared that these values are essential for building communities rooted in love, unity, and compassion — the vision he continues to hold for Bain and Grants Town. The Christmas party served as more than a celebration; it was a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when churches, community groups, volunteers, and partners come together in service. For the seniors in attendance, it was a day of joy, dignity, and connection — a true reflection of the season’s spirit.
