Mrs. Humes was a true disciple, a real Christian because she loved, she loved unconditionally, even me. Her love knew no bounds. She spoke no ill of anyone. She subscribed to the scripture that says whatever is spoken in the chamber-room will be declared from the housetop. She lived her life with those biblical principles. If you had V.H. for a friend, you had a trusted, loyal, devoted, confidential friend. These were the sterling qualities that endeared so many to her, to confide in her and seek sage advice and words of encouragement, and godly counsel. She gave hope to the hopeless, strength to the weak, love to the unloved and encouragement to the discouraged. Pablo Picasso wrote, “The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.” Mrs. Humes found her gifts in life and did not hoard them unto herself. She doled them out to us freely and charitably. On more than one occasion she expressed regret of not having a daughter. Well, she did not give birth to any girls, but she had a daughter-in-law, wife of her son, Fr. Colin, who was just like a daughter, as good as many and better than most. May God bless her for her consistent devotion to her revered mother-in-law. I must confess that I do regret not visiting her more often due to covid 19 pandemic. However, I did keep in touch through her daughter-in-law via modern technology. Vivian Cynthia Humes embodied the best of motherhood. She exemplified everything good about womanhood in our Bahamas. Would to God that there were more Vivian Humes in our Bahamaland today, as the bar is at an all-time low. In conclusion, what then shall I place upon her tomb-stone as an epithet? Methinks that St. Paul’s words are most appropriate, “She has finished her course, she has fought a good fight, she has kept the faith. And now is laid up for her a Crown of Life.” So, as we take leave of our mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, neighbor and friend, we pray that the angels will lead her into paradise and may the martyrs receive her and take her into the Holy City, Jerusalem. May her soul and all the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in eternal peace.

It is with great sadness that the family of Mark A. R. Cash, announces his death on Wednesday, 3rd November, 2021 after a short illness at the Princess Margaret Hospital. Mr. Cash was predeceased by his father, Dr. H. ODAY, as Americans and many Bahamians observe Thanksgiving, families will sit in the midst of all the delicious food set on their tables, and share and reflect among themselves, in between bites of course, on some of the things they are grateful for. Expressing gratitude may come easier to some than to others; those that have been blessed with a less challenging year may be able to show thanks eagerly. But what of those Christians who have been experiencing a more tumultuous year? For them, it may take some emotional searching within themselves, some deep consideration to realise they are indeed still thankful and can have a joyful spirit like the Bible commands. Mastering this feat in the midst of great distress is the hallmark of Christianity and is a testament to one’s faith.

Tribune Religion spoke to several Christians who said this Thanksgiving season has found them in very tough positions, nevertheless they have found ways to look beyond that and have found it in themselves to feel gratitude. Leona Ferguson said this year her faith was severely tested. She lost family members, lost her job, and dealt with a number of stressful situations this year. But through it all her faith has remained strong. “I must say even being a good mood at this point in my life is an act of faith. I have been faced with so many things this year and it’s so hard for me to be thankful even though there are multitude of things that I can be thankful,” she said. “But I realised that God never told us that we won’t have any troubles in this world. He did say though that we are to give thanks in all things and not some things. And meditating on that word has helped me.” Ms Ferguson said one of things she is grateful for is that in spite of losing her

What we have to admit is that there is a really big picture that we will see one day. Throw yourself into God’s Almighty arms, or sit in God’s lap as Psalm 131 describes: “Lord, I have given up my pride and turned away from my arrogance. I am not concerned with great matters or with subjects too difficult for me. Instead, I am content and at peace. As a child lies quietly in its mother’s arms, so my heart is quiet within me.” Embrace every opportunity to love each day, accept God’s forgiveness, forgiving others and yourself at the same time. 3. The reality of new beginnings As we face our own death, we can face life as a clean page every day: • Let us get our own priorities right • Put our houses in order

If we only ever experience good times we would never ever grow in our faith. So I am thankful for how God uses difficulty to prune us, shape and make us grow branches.”

TWO HUNDRED YOUNG WOMEN TAKE PART IN FUNFILLED ANGLICAN EVENT; LEARN ABOUT INNER WORTH T

HE Anglican Church Women (ACW) recently welcomed 200 young ladies between the ages of 10 through 19 years from across New Providence and throughout the Family Islands to the ACW Council’s first virtual Young Ladies Seminar. Held under the theme “Focus on Your Inner Gram”, the Scripture reference was 1 Peter 3:3-4: “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewellery and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” Council President Charlene Rodgers oversaw the proceedings. Vice President of the ACW Council and Chair of the Outreach Committee Rosanne Johnson, along with other ACW sisters, enthusiastically coordinated this fun-filled event for the young women who came from the Anglican and wider communities throughout the Bahamas. bag, and a certificate of participation.” The ACW Council was established on November 3, 1963, by Bishop Bernard Markham, the then Lord Bishop of the Diocese of the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos Islands, and grew out of a need for more deliberate and increased participation of women in the Anglican Church at both the parochial and diocesan levels.

Amongst the goals and objectives of the ACW are opportunities for women to serve God by practicing a rule of life through study, prayer, fellowship and giving. In 2003, the under the Ministry of the ACW and leadership of Council President Sandra Collie, the first Young Ladies Seminar was held to reach out to the young women and teenage girls of the Church.

A testimony of a renewed believer AFTER losing some of the strength and conviction behind his faith over the years, Bahamian Charles Major decided to seek out a special theological programme to help him find what he had lost. He succeeded, and he credits the Anglican Theological Institute with his success and his renewed belief in God and His teachings.

“The Anglican Theological Institute (ATI) was a life-changer and a catalyst for the renewal of my faith,” he said. “It took me right into the core of my being to realise that the actual presence of God was somehow dimmed in my life and in my thoughts and worship. In fact, I blamed all the usual suspects for this searching and this hunger. I blamed my church, I

blamed my denomination for not doing enough, and finally I blamed my apathy on the fact that I had tried it all but, it took a renewal weekend to ignite the passion, the longing, the search and the fire again.” Mr Major said he had lost his way “somewhere between the apathy and the disaffection.” “Added to all of this was the doubt and the

questionings surrounding religion, God and the likes. Added to all of these came the awareness that instead of beating up on the church and my denomination maybe I should try and understand what I believe when it came to my religion and my personal walk with God and what I held dear to the core of my being. All of my instincts, my belief and my will indicated to me that it was time to go beneath the surface of it all and try and get a deeper understanding surrounding questions of purpose, eternal life and Jesus Christ.” Mr Major said he sought out the ATI to somehow bridge this great divide between the questions and the answers that were being hurled around within him. “With an open heart and an open mind, I enrolled in ATI and got my mind expanded and shifted all at once, my heart expanded, but more importantly a deeper relationship in my walk with God and a raging fire rekindled within me to bring the gospel to others,” he said. He describes the ATI programme as a “treasure; a golden nugget that needs to be unearthed and shared with everyone throughout this Bahamaland and the world.” “The programme firstly is taught by passionate
