Christie - no need for public criticism Pindling speech was ‘wrong forum’ By KHRISNA RUSSELL Deputy Chief Reporter krussell@tribunemedia.net FORMER Prime Minister Perry Christie suggested yesterday that Monique Pindling’s scathing assessment of the Progressive Liberal Party should not have been aired in a public setting, but added he did not feel personally attacked by her overview of the PLP. The day after Cat Island, Rum Cay and San Salvador MP Philip “Brave” Davis defeated Englerston MP Glenys Hanna Martin for the leadership post by a huge margin of 1,004 to 300 votes, Mr Christie was also adamant that with the new executive team now elected, the party “could be the next government” in the next general election. Mr Christie said he was hopeful Mrs Hanna Martin, and former Tourism Minister Obie Wilchcombe, who was defeated by Senator Fred Mitchell for the chairman post, would not feel slighted and see they still have major contributions to make in the party. CHAIRMAN MITCHELL COMES OUT FIGHTING By RICARDO WELLS Tribune Staff Reporter rwells@tribunemedia.net
NEWLY elected Progressive Liberal Party Chairman Fred Mitchell has committed the party to meeting the governing Free National Movement “at every corner and on every street” as opposition party recommits to capturing an election victory in 2022. In a statement released after he was declared the winner of the PLP’s chairman race at the PLP’s 53rd annual convention, Mr Mitchell served notice to the FNM and its Chairman Carl Culmer that they should conduct themselves in a certain manner and use language “at the level which matches their role in the country and not down in the gutter”. SARKIS RAISES NEW BAHA MAR QUESTIONS By KHRISNA RUSSELL Deputy Chief Reporter krussell@tribunemedia.net ATTORNEY General Carl Bethel, QC, revealed yesterday the government received a letter from Baha Mar’s original developer Sarkis Izmirlian in response to questions from The Tribune over whether the government would investigate the issuance of a casino licence to the resort’s purchaser Chow Tai Fook
Enterprises (CTFE). The letter, said to be dated October 17, and sent to the Office of the Attorney General purportedly called on the Minnis administration to look into the previous government’s April 5, 2017, issuance of the licence, a source told The Tribune. According to the source, the letter also referred to multiple agreements, records and documents outside of those, which
were already made public regarding Baha Mar. However, when this newspaper questioned to what the letter referred and its details, Mr Bethel would not say. “The office received a letter from Mr Sarkis Izmirlian and I have forwarded it to my senior officials for their opinion on the matter,” he told The Tribune in a brief telephone interview.

THERE has been no trace of the Bimini couple missing at sea for a week, despite intense aerial and sea searches conducted by Bahamian and US officials since last Friday. Supt Henry Rolle, in Bimini, reported the aerial search had been called off, but rescue and recovery efforts continue for husband and wife, Alex and Aliseda Saintres. On Wednesday, concerned relatives flew to Bimini for answers concerning their missing parents. Supt Rolle said officials went out in a vessel on Monday, but so far there has been no sign of the couple. SEE PAGE SIX
