FOR anyone who has ever faced the sting of rejection, whether through heartbreak, betrayal, or simply feeling unseen. One Bahamian evangelist, Minister Agnes Bethell is offering a message of restoration and divine reassurance.
Her new book, Rejection Is Not Your Portion, invites readers to confront the pain of rejection through a lens of faith and healing.
According to Teri M Bethel, site administrator of AuthorsAndWritersHub.com, who shared the release, the book offers “a powerful, faithbased perspective on overcoming the universal pain of rejection,” drawn from Minister Bethell’s personal experiences and ministry journey. Teri believes this message of healing and hope “will resonate deeply with readers.”
A woman whose life embodies resilience, Minister Bethell shares how she rose above deep emotional wounds, from childhood trauma to ministry hurt, workplace dishonour, and betrayal. “Many people say, ‘the truth will set you free,’” noted Minister Bethell.
Scripture-based reflection, Rejection Is Not Your Portion encourages readers to embrace their identity in Christ and transform their pain into purpose. Minister Bethell said she believes the book is for “those who have felt like outsiders, questioned their worth, or cried silent tears behind closed doors.” Her goal, she said, is to remind readers that “rejection does not define them — and it doesn’t determine their future.”
Minister Bethell said she is living proof that what man rejects, God can redeem.
Describing the author as a seasoned healthcare worker, skilled shell-craft jeweller, and devoted minister, Teri told Tribune Religion Minister Bethell serves alongside her husband, Pastor Darren Bethell, in Lower Bogue, Eleuthera, where they continue to share messages of hope and healing. Together, they are parents to seven children and grandparents to three.
She went on to add: “And it’s true. God’s Word is like a healing serum that neutralises the venom of rejection. His truth has the power to change the facts if they do not align with His purpose and plan for your life.”
Through heartfelt storytelling and
“When you read this book, readers will learn how to overcome shame and self-doubt, (as well as) embrace God’s acceptance and walk confidently. She (Minister Bethell) shows that rejection, though painful, can become a gateway to revelation and divine purpose,” said Teri.
Rejection Is Not Your Portion is now available in paperback and eBook formats on Amazon and in Eleuthera, offering readers everywhere a chance to rediscover acceptance, forgiveness, and peace through faith.
ON SATURDAY, October 25, the Parish Church of St George’s will pay tribute, to individuals who have aided the growth and development of the parish.
The event will be held at Margaritaville resort beginning at 7pm. Tickets are $140 from the church office.
The honorees are Canon Basil Tynes, Cathecist James Campbell, Cleomi Parker, Mavis Davies, Elaine Deveaux and Linda LaFleur.
Diocesan Bishop Laish Boyd said: “The strength of St George’s has been just the togetherness, synergy, camaraderie of diverse individuals who came together in the past, and who journey together now, for a common cause - the St George-in-the-Valley Cause. I commend you for hosting such an event.
“It allows people to get together in the same space for an evening of family time and reflection. It is my prayer that both the event conceived and the fellowship shared would be rich resources that inspire others to give of themselves. May the Holy Spirit who has begun a good work in you, perfect that work until the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6).”
Canon Basil Tynes assumed the rectorship of St George in October 1996.
His strength as a Bible Study teacher elevated the class to interdenominational status and followed him to his next cure at St Barnabas. He can be credited for the formation of the church’s fully functioning communications ministry including components for the internet, tape and visual ministries.
Canon Tynes supported renewal programmes and introduced adult and teen discovery to the parish.
Mavis Davies’ life is one of service. She was elected and served as president of the St George’s Branch of the ACW, and as vice president of the ACW Council. She also served as president of the Guild to Help the Sick and Needy. Using her culinary talents and encouraging the women in the parish to do the same, allowed these organisations to make significant financial contributions to the parish of St George and the wider community of “The Valley”. Mavis for many years was a member of the Yellow Bird Voluntary Auxiliary at the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH). As president, Mavis and the team of volunteers worked tirelessly to raise funds to support the work of the PMH.
St George’s Church has been a cornerstone of Cleomi Parker’s life. She raised her four daughters in the church. Her own involvement went far beyond simply attending. Over the years, she has faithfully served on the Vestry, the Guild for the Sick and Needy, the Prayer Chain, and the Usher Board. Her heart for outreach shines through in all that she does. Cleomi also works in the Evangelism Ministry, where she has been instrumental in leading
initiatives that extend the church’s mission into the community.
The Rt Rev Michael Eldon invited Elaine Deveaux to join the Diocese of the Bahamas and The Turks and Caicos islands as Diocesan Youth Officer. On May 1, 1984, she became the first lay person to hold the position in the Diocese. She held this position until 1989 when she was asked to set-up the Diocesan Book Store and be the Family Island coordinator for the Parishes in the Family of Islands. She also ministered closely with Fr Harry Ward who was the Diocesan Director or Evangelism during the 1990s during the Decade of Evangelism. It was during 1996 when she was given the primary responsibility for the Diocesan Medical Plan as its claims coordinator and administrator.
On Sunday, October 22, 1982, Elaine was made a Lay Reader in the Parish Church of St George NP (in the Valley). In October 1983, she was made a Licensed Eurcharistic Minister, the first woman in New Providence at St George’s. A Eucharistic Minister assists with the administering of the Chalice at the Holy Eucharist (the Mass).
James Allardyce Campbell was one of Cat Island’s finest sons. He was a devout Anglican who had an unshakeable faith in Almighty God, and believed that “prayer changes things”. On February 24, 1985, he was installed as a Lay Reader and Catechist at St George’s Anglican Church. As a Lay Reader, he read with clarity and eloquence; as a Catechist, he modelled the principles and beliefs of the faith at Morning Prayer and at Evensong. He was also a Vestry member whose leadership, management skills, and experience as a seasoned Civil Servant, Educator and Commissioner, served the parish well.
Linda LaFleur is a cherished member of St George’s Anglican Parish, known for her unwavering dedication and humble spirit which she has attended since the Parish was established in 1956. Since that time she has raised her entire family, inclusive of her sons, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews within this Parish. She has a long history of service as a Sunday school teacher, where she positively impacted the lives of many young parishioners. Currently, Linda is an active member of the Guild to Help the Sick and the Needy, an organisation she once led as president and served as treasurer for many years. The Guild’s outreach enables her to carry out her genuine care for others and she remains modest about her generous contributions to those in need. She does not believe she is deserving of any accolades, as her selflessness and compassion make her a truly humble and remarkable Christian woman.
Canon Andrew Toppin, Rector of St George Parish said as we share this time of fellowship, may our hearts be lifted in gratitude for the ways God has worked through their lives.
