RELIGIOUS NEWS, STORIES AND CHURCH EVENTS
Let God arise A
powerful evening of praise, worship and celebration is set for Sunday, October 11, as respected Bahamian gospel vocalist, worship leader and ministry veteran Vanderson A Barnett celebrates his 50th birthday with a special gospel concert, “Let God Arise.” Presented by The Church of God National Praise Team, the celebration will take place at Trinity Global Cathedral, Marshall Road beginning at 7pm. The evening will bring together some of the country’s dynamic gospel voices and ministries to celebrate not only Barnett's milestone birthday, but also his many years of service to God through music and ministry. Barnett is regarded as a powerhouse within Bahamian gospel music and is particularly known for the commanding energy, conviction and passion he brings to praise and worship. A member of the Church of God denomination in The Bahamas, he serves as leader of the Church of God National Praise and Worship Team, where his musical leadership has helped shape the ministry's distinctive and energetic sound. Known for his ability to create memorable hooks, spontaneous vamps and powerful musical drives, Barnett has developed a reputation for taking a song beyond the written arrangement and turning it into an engaging worship experience. Whether leading a congregation, directing a praise team or driving a live gospel performance, his ministry is characterised by intensity,
authenticity and a desire to point listeners toward God. Reflecting on reaching the milestone of 50 years, Barnett expressed gratitude for the life and ministry God has entrusted to him. “As I celebrate 50 years of life, my heart is simply filled with gratitude. I thank God for keeping me, sustaining me and allowing me the privilege of doing ministry throughout all of these years. Every opportunity to sing, lead worship and encourage someone through the gift He has given me has been a blessing. I don't take any of it for granted. My prayer is that as long as God gives me breath, I will continue to use my voice and my life to give Him praise.” Barnett's contribution to Bahamian gospel music also extends into recording. Under his leadership, the Church of God National Praise Team recorded the live album “Give Him Praise (Live),” a project that showcased the team's vibrant approach to praise and worship. The project would later contribute to the ministry earning two Bahamas Gospel Music Awards in 2021, further recognising its impact on the local gospel music community. His musical influence has also been felt through his home church, The New Goodwill Church of God. Barnett recorded a remake of the gospel song “It's Amazing What Praise Can Do,” led by the New Goodwill Church of God Praise Team. The recording went on to receive recognition at the Bahamas Gospel Music Awards in 2024, adding another milestone to his journey in gospel music and ministry.
The “Let God Arise” celebration will feature an exciting lineup of gospel ministers and performers, including Oslien Jadorte, Joinae Gibson, along with the Church of God National Praise Team and Kingdom Mime Ministries International. Special appreciation is extended to Bishop Trevor Williamson and Pastor Sharon Williamson for opening the doors of Trinity Global Cathedral and serving as the host church for this milestone celebration. Their hospitality and support of gospel ministry will help provide the setting for what is expected to be a memorable evening of worship, fellowship and thanksgiving. For Barnett, the occasion is about much more than turning 50. “Let God Arise” represents an opportunity to reflect on God's faithfulness through five decades of life and years of ministry while looking ahead to what God has yet to accomplish. The public is invited to join the Church of God National Praise Team, family, friends, fellow ministers and supporters as they celebrate the life and ministry of Vanderson A Barnett. The event will take place on Sunday, October 11, at 7pm at Trinity Global Cathedral, Marshall Road. The dress code is Denim & White. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children, with admission $25 at the door.

From Hurt to Hope THE Anglican Diocese of The Bahamas and The Turks and Caicos Islands is inviting Christians from across the country and the wider region to participate in its 6th Annual Healing Conference, scheduled for October 16 and 17, at the Church of the Epiphany Hall on Prince Charles Drive. Christians from all over the region are invited to come together for a weekend of spiritual reflection, teaching, fellowship and ministry during the Anglican’ Diocese of the Bahamas and The Turks and Caicos Island sixth annual healing conference. Held under the powerful and timely theme “From Hurt to Hope,” this year’s conference is open to all persons of the Christian faith and is not limited to members of the Anglican Church. Organisers are encouraging individuals, families, church groups and anyone seeking spiritual renewal and healing to attend. The two-day gathering which takes place on October 16 and 17 promises to be an informative
and spiritually enriching experience, featuring a combination of inspirational talks, small-group discussions, praise and worship, liturgical dance and ministry. Organisers are anticipating a strong turnout and are encouraging interested persons to register early, as attendance will be limited. The theme, “From Hurt to Hope,” speaks directly to the experiences of many people who have faced disappointment, grief, loss, broken relationships, personal struggles and other challenges. The conference will provide a safe and faith-filled environment where participants can explore the journey from pain toward restoration, renewed faith and hope through the power of God. On Friday and Saturday participants will have the opportunity to engage in a series of presentations and activities designed to encourage spiritual growth and reflection and then the event culminates in a special Eucharistic Healing Service at 4 pm at the Church of the
Epiphany, Prince Charles Drive. The service will provide a fitting conclusion to the weekend's program of teaching, worship, fellowship and ministry and is expected to be a significant spiritual moment for conference participants and members of the wider Christian community. Organisers say the weekend will focus on demonstrating the power of the Kingdom of God through worship, teaching, prayer and ministry. The sixth annual Healing Conference will feature a strong lineup of clergy and ministry leaders from throughout The Bahamas. Speakers include Reverend Dr Khari Marcelle, Rector of St Gregory the Great; Father Bernard Been, Rector of Christ the King, Nassau; Father Khristopher Higgs, Rector in North Abaco; Father Joshua Davis, Curate at the Pro-Cathedral in Grand Bahama; and Deacon Tiffany Hall-Sweeting, Curate at Holy Cross Parish, Nassau.
Each speaker will bring a unique perspective and ministry experience to the conference, contributing to discussions and presentations centred on healing, faith, hope and the Christian journey. The organisers believe the diversity of the speakers and their ministry backgrounds will help create a meaningful experience for participants from different parishes, communities and Christian traditions. While the Healing Conference will feature informative presentations, organisers stress that it is intended to be much more than a traditional conference. The program will incorporate small-group sessions, praise and worship, liturgical dance and ministry, providing participants with opportunities not only to listen and learn but also to actively participate. The conference is designed to encourage fellowship among Christians and create an atmosphere where participants can reflect upon their own spiritual journeys while being strengthened by the experiences and testimonies of others. The organisers are particularly encouraging

those who may be carrying personal hurts or facing difficult circumstances to consider attending. The journey from hurt to hope can be a deeply personal one, and the conference seeks to remind participants that they do not have to walk that journey alone. The registration deadline is October 9. The cost to participate is $100, with participants asked to plan to spend
Friday evening and all day Saturday taking part in the conference activities. Those interested in attending are encouraged to register before the deadline to secure their participation. For additional information and registration details, persons may contact Mrs Audrey Major-Rolle at 558-0652 or Mrs Marie Cooper.
