Men’s national softball team off to splitting start

he Bahamas men’s national softball team split their first two games played in the X Men’s Pan American Championship in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

In their first two games played yesterday, the Bahamas lost a 2-1 decision to Guatemala as Desmond Russell cracked a solo home run in the fifth inning for the team’s only run.

Alcott Forbes suffered the loss.

The team, managed by Perry Seymour, bounced back to shut out Costa Rica 7-0 in their first double header.

Arriving after the tournament got started, the organisers had to make an adjustment to the schedule.

TEAM BAHAMAS - Our men’s national softball team is scheduled to play another pair of games today at the X Men’s Pan American Championship in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The Bahamas is expected to play another pair of games today against Canada at 8:30am and Belize at 12:30pm.

And on Tuesday, the Bahamas will play another

double header against Mexico at 8:30am and Argentina at 12:30 pm.

Their final game in the round robin will be played on Wednesday at 8:30am against Panama.

The tournament wraps up on Sunday. It serves as the qualifier for the XVIII Pan American Games or the 18th Pan American Games, scheduled for July 26 to August 11, 2019.

Lady Wildcats claw their way to 10-5 win over Lady Sharks

By BRENT STUBBS Senior Sports Reporter bstubbs@tribunemedia.net NO matter how they play during the regular season, the Sunshine Auto Lady Wildcats always find a way to make their presence felt during the New Providence Softball Association’s postseason.

So far this year, the Wildcats are sitting in third place in the five-team standings in the ladies’ division at 9-7.

But on Saturday night after pulling off a 10-5 win over the second place (11-6) Platinum Pool Lady Sharks, manager Anthony Bullard said this is the time that his Wildcats start to step it up for the playoff stretch.

“Right now, everybody’s coming back together after the long layoff,” said Bullard after they won the last two of their three games played since the league resumed after the passing of Hurricane Irma.

“This is the time of the year that we play better, so I expect that will get only get better going into the playoffs.”

The playoffs won’t start until the end of the month when the men’s national team return from their participation in the X Pan American Men Championship in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

But Bullard said this is an opportunity for the Wildcats to fine tune their game as they regroup as a team.

“We started off with a big team, but all of a sudden, it dwindled down to a much smaller team,” he said. “Most of the players say they are working. Ain’t nothing you could do about that. I just need those that we have available to come out on time.”

Beneby expressed his concern as they are starting to fizzle off the pace. “We’re not playing that well,” said Beneby as they were 2-2 in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma.

HE didn’t set any national records or win any international medals, but debonair Keith Rolle was remembered as the world traveller for Special Olympics Bahamas who inspired those who came in contact with him, while he used his charm to wow every “pretty girl” he met.

Rolle, 55, was laid to rest on Saturday following the funeral service at St Anselm’s Roman Catholic Church, conducted

by Father Noel Clarke.

Among those present were some of his collegiate in Special Olympics Bahamas. Both Basil Christie, immediate past chairman of Special Olympics Bahamas and Sheila Culmer, the president of the Bahamas National Council for Disability.

Christie said he first got to meet Rolle during his commute in dropping his children to St Augustine’s College when he passed Rolle dressed in his school uniform on Bernard Road.

He said he wasn’t sure if Rolle knew him, but every morning he looked forward to getting that big wave and a smile from Rolle.

Once he got involved in Special Olympics Bahamas, Christie said their relationship developed to the point that whenever he travelled to a meeting or an event for Special Olympics, he took

Anfernee Seymour suspended for ‘violation of team rules’

By RENALDO DORSETT Tribune Sports Reporter rdorsett@tribunemedia.net ANFERNEE Seymour’s season came to an abrupt end before he had an opportunity to suit up in the Offseason Arizona Fall League.

The 22-year-old outfield prospect in the Atlanta Braves organisation was suspended for “violation of team rules,” according to SB Nation’s Chris Cotillo and was removed from the roster of the Peoria Javelinas.

Cotillo further stated the Javelinas declined to comment on the specifics for the reason behind the suspension. “Details not fully known but belief from one

source is that noise complaints were at the root of the issue.” he said.

The Javelinas have MLB affiliations with the San Diego Padres and Mariners along with the Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles and Cincinnati Reds.

The Javelinas, established in 1992, play in the West Division of the Arizona Fall League.

Seymour received the call up as one of seven members of his Florida Fire Frogs named to the roster.

He concluded his season with the Fire Frogs in the Single A-Advanced Florida State League with his best month of the 2017 campaign. The 23rd-ranked prospect hit .355 through 21 games and collected an

The Arizona Fall League attracts many of the top prospects in the minor

The league is designed for these prospects to refine their skills and perform in game settings in front of major and minor league

baseball scouts and team executives, who are in attendance at almost every game.

Seymour was ranked No.11 in the latest edition of Baseball America’s “Prospect Hot Sheet” which recognises the top performing prospects in Minor League Baseball during the given time period.

Since the call up to the Fire Frogs, Seymour has appeared in 78 games in the Florida State League.

He hit .287 with 17 RBI, an OBP of .346, OPS of .711 scored 42 runs and stole 17 bases.

Despite playing in just 78 of the team’s 118 games, he ranked fourth on the team in hits (84), fourth in triples and second in stolen bases.

Seymour was promoted to Class-A advanced and joined the Fire Frogs in May. Prior to the promotion, Seymour was enjoying his most successful season at the plate in his young minor league career.

Through 28 games with the Rome Braves in the South Atlantic League, Seymour hit .287 with six RBI, an OBP of .345 and snagged eight stolen bases in 11 tries.

Last season Seymour was traded from the Miami Marlins organisation to the Atlanta Braves in a threeplayer deal which also saw the Braves acquire pitcher Michael Mader in exchange for relief pitcher Hunter Cervenka.

KEITH ROLLE, 55, LAID TO REST FROM PAGE 1 Rolle along. But Christie said it was disheartening to a lot of people whenever he didn’t travel.

“He was the life of the party,” Christie said. “Everybody loved him and he loved everybody.”

Affectionately called “Shabba” or “Lover Boy,” Rolle lived beyond his expected years as a person with Down Syndrome. But for those who knew him, Rolle never allowed his disability to affect the way he lived his life. He was one of the first athletes that Culmer introduced to Special Olympics when the Bahamas began competing in the international arena, playing the sport of bocce.

Culmer said when she was the principal at Stapledon School, she met Rolle through his mother, Remilda Rolle, who made

sure that he was properly attired and attended class every day.

Later, she said when she visited St Augustine’s College to drop off or pick up her children, she was to stay in touch with Rolle, who was always interested in taking numbers of the “pretty young girls” in his notebook and telling them that he loved them.

With his infectious smile, Culmer said Rolle stood out, not just at school, but wherever he went and with whomever he came in contact with. She said she thanked God for having had the pleasure of knowing Rolle because he helped to change her life forever.

“I am the richer for having known one Keith Rolle,” she said.

In his eulogy, Father Clarke said that Rolle “lived a very long and productive life. At the age of 55, I don’t think I would

have accomplished some of the things that he did and I’m almost there.”

Father Clarke said Rolle was a devote and dedicated member of St Anselm’s and he made sure that he attended church just about every Sunday.

He said there was never a time when he and Deacon Ricardo Demeritte visited Rolle at his home, they were always cheered by Rolle.

But he recalled how on one trip, he went without Demeritte, who was off the island.

Instead, he went with a female member and he saw him rise up like he never did before. He said that was just one of the many memories that he will continue to focus on as he reflects on the life of Rolle.

“He had a wide circle of friends. He was an international man. He was an Olympian,” Clarke said.

“He was Mr Lover, Lover, who was surrounded by great love.

“With the support of his family and his friends, even in his sickness, he left behind some great memories for all of us.”

Although he questioned why someone who had so much to offer in his love and affection had to

die, Clarke said he didn’t have the answers, but he assured the near capacity audience in church that they can all be assured that Rolle believed in God and he would have fulfilled his lifetime of achievement on earth.

He said Rolle has certainly fought a good fight, he kept the faith and he

finished the course and now he’s going on to receive his just award in heaven for being a faithful and dedicated servant.

Rolle, who died on Saturday, August 26 at his home on Bernard Road, left behind three brothers, seven sisters and a host of family members and friends.

Lady Wildcats 10, Lady Sharks 5: In the lone game played on Saturday night, Sunshine Auto put up their runs early, scoring four in the first inning, one in the second and four more in the third to take a 9-4 lead and they were never challenged the rest of the game.

The Wildcats took advantage of five walks from starting and losing pitcher Sari Albury in the first inning as they scored their first four runs. Mia Turner came in and gave up four hits and two walks while striking out two in her two innings of work before Breadia Ferguson cooled them off in the final four innings on just two hits with a walk and three strike outs.

Shortstop Rebecca Moss was 2-for-3 with a run batted in (RBI) and three runs scored to lead the Wildcats. Her only RBI drove home Maryann Ferguson in the seventh for their final run after the third sacker reached safely

on a fielder’s choice and stole second.

First sacker Chryshann Percentie helped out by going 1-for-3 with three RBI, including her big three-run double in the fourth; second sacker Lynette Kelly went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and center fielder LaShandra Bethel scored two runs on the pair of walks she received.

Mainstay Mary ‘Cruise’ Sweeting, who was walked twice in her four trips to the plate, was steady as a rock on the mound, limiting the Lady Sharks to eight hits with nine strike outs and three walks.

Proper Care got three runs in the first, one in the third and their last one in the fifth.

Centre fielder Doniesha Woodside went 3-for-4 with two runs scored; first sacker Sophia Cartwright was 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored; left fielder Aliyah Ferguson was 1-for-3 with two RBI and Albury helped her own cause going 1-for-3 with a RBI. Breadia Ferguson made good of her one at-bat as she singled and scored their final run in the fifth.

Dolphins hold on to spoil Chargers’ LA debut, 19-17

By GREG BEACHAM Associated Press CARSON, California (AP) — The Miami Dolphins felt they had won one for hurricane-ravaged South Florida in their belated season opener.

Cody Parkey hit his fourth field goal from 54 yards with 1:05 to play, and the Dolphins rallied in the fourth quarter to spoil the Los Angeles Chargers’ home opener with a 19-17 victory yesterday.

Younghoe Koo missed a 44-yard field goal attempt with 5 seconds left after Philip Rivers manoeuvred the Chargers (0-2) into scoring range in the final minute before a crowd of 25,381 in their first home game since relocating to the Los Angeles area after 56 seasons in San Diego.

Jay Cutler passed for 230 yards and Jay Ajayi rushed for 122 for the Dolphins, who spent the past nine days in California after leaving Miami early to avoid Hurricane Irma.

With “ONE FLORIDA” decals on their helmets and their hometown in their hearts, the Dolphins grinded through a tight game and then celebrated wildly when Koo pushed his kick barely right.

“I think adversity shows character, and here we are,” Miami defensive end Cameron Wake said.

“It definitely has been a

crazy past few days. Every so often, something happens that puts things in perspective.

“Football takes a back seat for a while, but once we weathered the storm and got out ... we were just trying to get back to normal.”

The Dolphins were wellrested after their home opener against Tampa Bay was postponed, leaving them to play their latest season opener since 1977.

Parkey still did most of the Dolphins’ scoring, connecting from 30, 28 and 35 yards before burying his longest kick in the waning moments.

Kenny Stills caught a 29-yard TD pass in the third quarter from Cutler, who went 24 of 33 without an interception in his Dolphins debut.

“There’s definitely an edge to this team,” said Cutler, who came out of retirement to take over for injured Ryan Tannehill.

“This team doesn’t get down. It just bounces right back.”

Rivers passed for 331 yards, and Antonio Gates set an NFL record with his 112th touchdown reception as a tight end, breaking his tie with Tony Gonzalez.

NFL CAPSULES PATRIOTS 36, SAINTS 20 NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Bouncing back with a vengeance from a season-opening loss, Tom Brady threw three touchdown passes in the first quarter for the first time in his career and eclipsed 300 yards passing in the first half for only the second time.

Brady’s maiden Super Bowl triumph in the Superdome back in February 2002 is bound to be one of his fondest memories. But the 18-year veteran looked like a superior QB in his latest visit.

SEAHAWKS 12, 49ERS 9 SEATTLE (AP) — Russell Wilson avoided two potential sacks and found Paul Richardson in the front corner of the end zone for a 9-yard touchdown with 7:06 left.

It was an offensive nightmare as both teams had combined for 14 total quarters without a touchdown this season before the Seahawks finally broke the seal on the goal line. Wilson avoided Arik Armstead in the pocket and got his pass away before DeForest Buckner could pull him down.

Seattle (1-1) snapped a streak of more than 112 minutes without a touchdown, despite missing on opportunities twice inside the 49ers’ 10-yard line earlier in the game.

Wilson was erratic at times and magical at the end. He was 23 of 39 passing for 198 yards.

He rushed for another 34 yards, 27 coming on the decisive scoring drive. Wilson was 4 of 5 on the drive and aided by a 20-yard pass interference penalty against Dontae Johnson.

Blair Walsh added field goals of 25 and 27 yards, but missed the extra point after Richardson’s TD that could have given the Seahawks a four-point lead. The 49ers (0-2) only needed a field goal to tie but never got into position to have an opportunity.

(AP) — Marshawn Lynch ran for a touchdown in his first home game with Oakland and Derek Carr threw three TD passes to Michael Crabtree.

Cordarrelle Patterson and Jalen Richard added long touchdown runs to help put the game away and give the Raiders (2-0) wins in the opening two games of the season for the first time since their AFC championship season in 2002.

Josh McCown threw a pair of TD passes to Jermaine Kearse, but the Jets (0-2) proved to be no match for the more powerful and talented Raiders.

The Raiders’ vaunted offensive line won the matchup against New York’s front four , allowing no sacks and helping clear holes for a 180-yard rushing performance.

Oakland wore down the Jets and got a 43-yard touchdown run by Patterson late in the third quarter and a 52-yarder by Richard early in the fourth that made it 35-13.

Cousins capped the winning 70-yard drive by finding Grant in the front left corner of the end zone.

The Rams (1-1) had tied the game at 20 on Greg Zuerlein’s 40-yard field goal with 7:16 to play. It was set up on a trick play,

Wentz finished with 333 yards and two touchdowns passing, despite facing relentless pressure all afternoon. The spunky quarterback also led the Eagles (1-1) with 55 yards rushing.

CARDINALS 16, COLTS 13, OT INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Carson Palmer’s late rally got the Cardinals into overtime and Tyrann Mathieu’s interception set up Phil Dawson for a 30-yard field goal to win it.

Dawson made the most of his second chance after pushing a 42-yarder wide right as regulation time expired.

Arizona (1-1) never led until the final play. It hasn’t started 0-2 since 2005.

Coach Bruce Arians won his 42nd career game and tied Don Coryell for the second-most wins in Cardinals history on the same field he called home when he won his first NFL Coach of the Year award in 2012 as an interim for the ill Chuck Pagano.

Indy, 0-2 for the fourth consecutive year, thought it may have changed directions after switching quarterbacks. But newcomer Jacoby Brissett was picked off on the first offensive play of overtime.

STEELERS 26, VIKINGS 9 PITTSBURGH (AP) — Ben Roethlisberger threw a pair

BUCCANEERS 29, BEARS 7 TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Jameis Winston threw for 204 yards and one touchdown, helping the Buccaneers return from an unscheduled bye week forced by Hurricane Irma.

The defense stymied former teammate Mike Glennon with four takeaways. Robert McClain returned one of the quarterback’s two interceptions for a TD, and the Bucs didn’t let the Bears into the end zone until Deonte Thompson scored on a 14-yard reception with 1:43 remaining.

The Bucs (1-0) dominated despite having a short week of practice following the massive storm that forced postponement of the team’s scheduled season opener at Miami. Winston completed 18 of 30 passes without an interception. He threw a 13-yard TD pass to Mike Evans, who had seven catches for 93 yards.

Glennon, who signed with Chicago as a free agent last winter, was 31 of 45 for 301 yards and two interceptions in his return to Raymond James Stadium. The Bears (0-2) finished with 310 yards total offense, 1 yard less than a Bucs offense that hasn’t had much work in the past month.

RAVENS 24, BROWNS 10 BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore relentlessly harassed two Cleveland quarterbacks, Joe Flacco ramped up his production with a pair of touchdown passes and the Ravens breezed.

Building on their season-opening shutout at Cincinnati, the Ravens picked off four passes and forced a fumble, giving them 10 takeaways in two games.

Most of the defense’s damage came against Browns rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer, who left with a migraine headache in the second quarter after four ineffective series: a three-and-out, a lost fumble, an interception and a punt.

The former Notre Dame starter was replaced by second-year pro

in the preseason, but he missed two more field goals against the Dolphins.

“Losing two tough ones down at the buzzer, we can be sick about it for a little while,” Rivers said. “But we’ve got a division opponent (Kansas City) coming in here that isn’t going to feel any sympathy. We’ve got to be ready to go.”

Kevin Hogan, but returned in the third quarter with Baltimore up 21-10. On his second series back, Kizer moved the Browns to the Baltimore 7 before being picked off in the end zone by Lardarius Webb.

Brandon Carr’s interception with 6:09 remaining all but sealed the victory.

TITANS 37, JAGUARS 16 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Derrick Henry, Delanie Walker and Jalston Fowler each ran for touchdowns, and the Titans dominated the Jaguars.

Indians overcome injuries to win Central, eye Series title

By TOM WITHERS Associated Press CLEVELAND (AP) — They raised a flag and then raised some hell.

After only partying on the road in the postseason last year, the Cleveland Indians finally got a chance to throw a bash in their own home.

For an hour or so, they sprayed each other with champagne and beer and carried on in their clubhouse the way grown baseball players do after winning something meaningful. But almost as quickly as the bash started, it ended and the Indians headed off on their last trip in the regular season.

There are bigger games ahead, and maybe, bigger parties.

On Sunday, the team that couldn’t lose for a few weeks, celebrated winning its second straight AL Central title after beating the Kansas City Royals 4-3 to conclude a homestand during which included the Indians setting a league record with a 22-game winning streak.

And while those accomplishments were certainly worth commemorating, the Indians, who went to the limit in last year’s World Series before losing to the Chicago Cubs and overcame injuries and other obstacles this season, won’t

The standings show the Indians ran away with their division.

It was anything but a cakewalk.

Much like last year’s postseason, when Cleveland made it to Game 7 of

the Series despite missing two starting pitchers and All-Star outfielder Michael Brantley, they were forced to overcome adversity from the outset. Injuries started in spring training and piled up. Even Francona was out for an extended period to have surgery to fix an irregular heartbeat.

Still, the Indians persevered. They started slowly, muddling around .500 for almost three months before

moving to first place on June 26. Following the All-Star break, Cleveland went 1-5 on a West Coast trip before ripping off nine straight wins.

They barely looked back.

“In a way when we come across those types of things, injuries, Tito’s scare, not that it doesn’t affect us and we don’t care about it, but we just brush it off and move on,” Kluber said.

Kluber has anchored the league’s deepest starting rotation, putting together another season that could land him a second Cy Young Award. Mike Clevinger has reached double figures in wins and Josh Tomlin, the longest tenured player on Cleveland’s roster, has been solid and a role model for young players to follow.

Two of them — Lindor and second baseman Jose Ramirez — have become MVP candidates and given Cleveland a dynamic infield duo as good as any in baseball.

Lindor seems to make a sparkling defensive play every game and Ramirez, who slid over from third to second when Jason Kipnis got hurt, is a one-man offensive juggernaut, leading the league in extra-base hits and ranking in the top five in runs, hits, average and slugging percentage.

Candace Parker’s layup helps Sparks sweep the Mercury

By JOSE M. ROMERO Associated Press PHOENIX (AP) — Candace Parker’s driving layup with 2.9 seconds to play gave the Los Angeles Sparks an 89-87 win and three-game sweep of the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA semi-finals yesterday.

Parker finished with 21 points and 11 assists.

Brittney Griner missed a shot as time expired and the Sparks celebrated with shouts and embraces in front of their bench.

Odyssey Sims scored 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting. Chelsea Gray added 14 points for the defending champion Sparks, who advanced to their second straight WNBA Finals and fifth overall. They will face Minnesota in a rematch of last year’s championship, after the Lynx completed a sweep of Washington earlier Sunday.

Diana Taurasi had tied the game at 87 with a 3-pointer from the wing with 10.8 seconds left.

After a timeout, Parker scored the go-ahead basket.

Taurasi’s 22 points led the Mercury while Griner added 18.

Leilani Mitchell’s steal and layup with 1:21 left brought the crowd to its feet and cut the Sparks’ lead to 85-82. Then Camille Little, who scored 18 points, stole an inbounds pass and drove for a layup to make

the score 85-84 with 18.6 seconds to go.

Sims sank a pair of free throws with 14.1 seconds left before Taurasi’s shot tied it.

The Sparks trailed by as many as 11 points in the first quarter after Little’s 3 with 3:43 left, part of her 12 points in the opening 10 minutes.

The Mercury’s 30-21 lead in the second quarter disappeared with a pair of Parker steals, two free throws and a nifty assist to Sims for a layup, and Los Angeles took its largest lead of the half, 43-35, on Alana Beard’s jumper 36.3 seconds before halftime.

MERCURY FALLING The Mercury’s top two players, Taurasi and Griner, combined to make only 3 of 19 shots in the first half as Phoenix scored only 13 second-quarter points.

Griner, at one point late in the third quarter, grabbed Parker in frustration for what she thought was a foul, and Mercury head coach Sandy Brondello was given technical. Taurasi was whistled for a technical seconds later.

UP NEXT Game of the WNBA Finals is next Sunday, when the Sparks will face Minnesota in Game 1.

Moore, Fowles help Lynx sweep Mystics, return to WNBA Finals

By IAN QUILLEN Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) — Maya Moore scored 21 points, Sylvia Fowles added 17 points and 14 rebounds, and the Minnesota Lynx completed a sweep of the Washington Mystics with an 81-70 win in Game 3 yesterday.

Seimone Augustus added 18 points as Minnesota secured its third consecutive finals appearance and sixth in seven seasons. The Lynx will attempt to win their fourth WNBA title in seven years.

Elena Delle Donne scored 15 points to lead the Mystics, who exit the playoffs after reaching the semifinals for the first time since 2002.

Tierra Ruffin-Pratt added 14 points and Kristi Tolliver had 13 for Washington, which forced the Lynx into a series-high 13 turnovers.

But the Mystics scored only 31 second-half points in their sixth loss in as many games against Minnesota in 2017, including regular season and playoffs.

After falling behind by seven late in the second quarter, the Lynx responded with a 17-0 run that stretched across halftime to build a 10-point lead.

Augustus scored Minnesota’s first seven points of the second half, including a transition 3-pointer off Moore’s kickout. Moore added a technical free throw charged to the Mystics bench to make it 49-39 with 6:41 left in the third quarter.

Washington closed back to within two before offensive rebounds from Rebekkah Brunson and Fowles keyed a four-point possession for the Lynx.

That made it 63-57, and the lead grew again from there.

UP NEXT Minnesota will host Game 1 of the WNBA Finals next Sunday at the University of Minnesota’s Williams Arena.

SINGAPORE (AP) — Lewis Hamilton profited from the chaos to win the Singapore Grand Prix and extend his championship lead to 28 points on Sunday as title rival Sebastian Vettel lost huge ground after crashing out on the first lap.

Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo prevented a Mercedes 1-2 by finishing ahead of Valtteri Bottas, who placed third.

Vettel can have little complaint as he seemed to cause the first-turn mayhem, despite starting from pole position. The crash caused a domino effect, taking out Vettel’s Ferrari teammate Kimi Raikkonen, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and McLaren’s Fernando Alonso.

Having started from fifth, on one of the toughest tracks in Formula One for overtaking, Hamilton could not believe his luck. The field opened up perfectly for the British driver to seal his third straight win, seventh of the season and 60th overall.

“I capitalized on the incident,” Hamilton said.

“Who could have known that would happen?”

He now has a commanding lead over Vettel with just six races remaining.

“It couldn’t be a more perfect scenario,” Hamilton said. “I definitely went in today thinking it was about damage limitation. To come out of it in the other direction is a shock.”

For the highly consistent Ricciardo, it was a seventh podium in the past 10 races.

But after dominating Friday’s two practice sessions he hoped for more.

“Normally I’m happy with the podium,” he said.

PARIS (AP) — David Goffin and Steve Darcis won their reverse singles matches as Belgium came from behind to defeat 28-time champion Australia 3-2 in the Davis Cup semifinals on Sunday, setting up a title match with France in November.

LUKAKU COMPOUNDS EVERTON’S MISERY IN MANCHESTER UNITED’S 4-0 ROUT

By ROB HARRIS Associated Press WHEN Romelu Lukaku slotted the ball into the Everton net, the Manchester United striker had no intention of holding back on the celebrations.

Far from it. Especially after being jeered during Sunday’s Premier League game by the Everton fans who revered him before an offseason transfer across northern England. The Belgian, who cost 75 million pounds (then $97 million), cupped his right ear to those supporters.
