REV. DR. WALSTONE ELISHA FRANCIS, 67 January 9, 1953 – September 4, 2020

A TIME TO LIVE Walstone Elisha Francis, a native of Nassau, Bahamas, was born on January 9, 1953 to the proud parentage of Rev. Dr. Earle and Dr. Marjorie Francis.

He was the fifth (5th) of thirteen (13) children.

He accepted Christ as his Lord and personal Saviour at the age of 17. Walstone was licensed to preach at First Baptist Church, Nassau, Bahamas on August 25, 1971 by his father, the late Rev. Dr. Earle Manford Walstone Francis.

A TIME TO LEARN He received his elementary education at Jordan Memorial School and his secondary education at Prince William Baptist High School in Nassau, Bahamas.

In 1971, Walstone enrolled at the American Baptist College in Nashville, Tennessee. He was ordained to the Sacred Gospel Ministry on Thursday, February 28, 1974 by Rev. Wellington A. Johnson Sr., who at the time was Pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Smyrna, Tennessee.

Pastor Francis received his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Theology Degrees from American Baptist College of American Baptist Theological Seminary, Nashville, Tennessee in 1975 and 1976 respectively. He received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Selma University, Selma, Alabama in 1989.

A TIME TO LOVE On May 29, 1976 Walstone married Miss Angelia Rene Otey Williams. They were blessed with over 44 years of marriage. Their deep love was often described as a marriage born in heaven and transcended to earth. The Lord blessed this couple with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren - their own special family. On Tuesday, July 19, 1994, Walstone became a citizen of the United States of America.

A TIME TO LEAD Walstone served as Pastor of Mt. View Baptist Church in Smyrna, Tennessee from 1974-1979 and the Alpha Missionary Baptist Church in Franklin, Kentucky from 1980-1992.

On Wednesday, January 8, 1992, he was called to pastor the Shiloh Baptist Church of Waukegan, Illinois. He accepted the call on Sunday, January 26, 1992. After accepting the assignment, he returned to his home church in Nassau, Bahamas, First Baptist Church, where his father commissioned him on Sunday, February 9, 1992, confirming him and sending him forth with the Church’s blessings. He assumed the pastorate of Shiloh on Sunday, March 1, 1992 and on May 3, 1992, he was officially installed as Pastor by Rev. Dr. Earle Francis and Pastor Wellington Johnson. It was a glorious day!

In 2003, he led the church in the construction of the Family Life Center, which was dedicated in June 2005.

During his forty-two (42) pastoral years, he ordained twenty (20) deacons [nineteen (19) in Shiloh]; licensed fifteen (15) ministers [twelve (12 in Shiloh] and ordained eleven (11) preachers to the Sacred Gospel Ministry [eight (8) in Shiloh]. He baptized many, married many, counseled many and taught and preached to many.

Pastor Francis was renown and highly regarded in the Christian ministry as a pastor, preacher, and teacher of the Gospel. The effectiveness of his teaching ministry cannot be measured or overstated. He possessed special gifts in his knowledge of the Word, and his ability to expound the Scriptures. His leadership and academic achievements were certainly a blessing to the Shiloh Family. was truly a man of God who loved the Almighty God, always encouraging his membership to read and study the Bible and be steadfast in their faith.

A TIME TO LEND Walstone served in numerous religious organizations: President, FranklinSimpson Ministerial Fellowship; Instructor, Sunday School and Baptist Training Union Congress of the National Baptist Convention of America; Writer, Young Adult and Adult Sunday School Quarterly and Chief Editor, National Baptist Publishing Board of National Baptist Convention of America; Committee Member on Uniform Series, Education for Christian Life and Mission-Division of the National Council of Churches, USA; Former 1st Vice-Moderator and Moderator, New Era District Association of Chicago & Vicinity; Chairman of Foreign Missions, Baptist General State Convention of Illinois; Organizer, former Moderator and Instructor of the Lake Shore Baptist District Association in Waukegan and vicinity and Volunteer Chaplain, Victory Memorial & Sis. Theresa Hospitals and the Lake County Jail, Waukegan, Illinois.

He also actively served in civic organizations: Member, NAACP and the Human Rights Commission, Franklin, Kentucky; Board member, Barren River Mental Health and Mental Retardation Board, Inc., Bowling Green, Kentucky.

In August 2003, he was appointed by Mayor Richard Hyde to the Waukegan Civil Service Commission, where he served diligently until 2018. In 2013, he became a Board Member of Community Renewal Society, Chicago, Illinois.

He was also President of The North Shore Ministers Alliance.
