Renate was born, Renate Schmidt, in Duisberg, Germany, on 21st March, 1938 and is the eldest member of the Schmidt Dynasty, of the RETAIL EMPIRE, METRO AG, founded by Ernst Richard Walter Schmidt, that provided food in war-torn Germany, Renate’s mother was Marta Heinzs and Renate has a brother, Ulrich Schmidt, in Hamburg, Germany, two children, Ira Hess, and Marcus Gruesser, living in Munich, Germany. There are four grandchildren, Judith, Kathy, Christopher and Kimberly; two great grandchildren, Carl and Luis and her longtime housekeeper, Wanda Smith. Renate lived in Salzburg, Austria, but her main residence was NASSAU, BAHAMAS, since 1981.
Renate married Robert Herman, who survives her, in 2013.
