IT’S no secret that a piece of art mounted on a wall, in a home or a corporate venue, has the ability to not only liven up a space, but also create just the right ambience.

Artwork can bring together the elements of a room by being a focal point, a colour inspiration, a harmoniser and more.

But there is in fact a bit of science to it and choosing the right piece or pieces for a space requires design and logistical considerations to make it all come together.

“I encourage persons to think about what kind of feel they want the work to inspire,” said artist Averia Wright, who is the curatorial manager at The Current Gallery at Baha Mar.

“For example, if you live in a beach cottage you may keep in mind that framing can reflect that. Distressed framing or floating frames that allow the artwork to breathe can be the ideal choice.” Filling up one’s space with art can without a doubt be an expensive undertaking. Averia suggests selecting pieces that have the feel, mood and style you are looking for, but are also within financial reach. “You can have beautiful art that doesn’t have to be expensive. Sometimes the way the artwork is presented elevates how it is seen,” she said. Print reproductions, she explained, are an option for those wanting to access artwork that would normally cost thousands of dollars for the original.

“And have it done for fraction of the cost depending on what material it is printed on for a small fraction of the cost,” she added.

The Current gallery has the rights to 80-plus artworks that can be reproduced.
