Bahamian pastor consecrated to office of bishop at Mount Calvary Holy Church of America By JEFFARAH GIBSON Tribune Features Writer jgibson@tribunemedia.net

ITH elevation comes greater responsibility, and not to mention, greater pressure. Nonetheless, Pastor Kelson Miller of Born Again Deliverance Ministries, who has now been consecrated to the office of bishop in the Mount Calvary Holy Church of America (MCHCA), Bahamas district, is ready to embrace his new role. He along with Wendall Lewis Judah of Worship Centre, who has also been an overseer in the Bahamas region, attended the 93rd International Holy Convocation and Outcry 2022 in North Carolina. Mt Calvary Bahamas congratulated both Bishop Miller and Overseer Lewis on their consecration. Representatives of the Ministry of Tourism were on hand to witness the special occasion last week. Bishop Miller said he knows that his new position will come with greater demands, however, he knows that with God’s strength and ability he will be successful. “This is very significant because of where God is taking us; it requires certain order and this shift gives us the platform. It
also gives me the opportunity to better facilitate the call of God,” he told Tribune Religion. His responsibilities as bishop will include teaching and and guiding the local body of the church under the MCHCA umbrella. “It will be to teach and direct the local churches that are under my portfolio and to bring soundness, guidance and maintain sound doctrine to the body of Christ and the local churches in the organisation,” he said. Bishop Miller answered the call of God at a time when he was dissatisfied with his life. That was more than 20 years ago. Realising that he was chosen by God and believing firmly in the principles of Jesus Christ, he eagerly and passionately sought out the will of God for his life. After serving in various ministerial capacities, he was ordained pastor of the former St Jude Sanctified Temple. He was then called to office of an apostle. Bishop Miller is also a Justice of the Peace and the founding Pastor of Born Again Deliverance United Christian Fellowship Centre and the Born Again Crusade Outreach Ministry. In the late 1990s, Bishop Miller, desiring to see the Body of Christ unite, made the

decision to host the Unity in Christ Conference. This conference is not only geared towards bringing believers together in one place, but also in one accord. The conference has been held annually in the Bahamas and all over the United States. Bishop Miller has ministered the gospel in many parts of the world, including Haiti, Cuba and the United States. On March 14, 2004, he received an honorary doctorate from the Tennessee School of Religion. “Advancing the kingdom of God, bringing synchronism between churches and government, I want help lift people to see themselves differently. If I can come from a little place called Minnie Street, be a high school dropout, to preaching the word of God and to be elevated in the episcopal by an organisation which has been around for 93 years with such great legacy, then all things are possible,” he told Tribune Religion. Bishop Miller said his journey could not have been possible without the support of this family. He married to the former Minister Aleacha Sweeting and is the father of seven children: Kelson Jr, Kaybaron, Kelisa, Kaybreann, Kenvano, Samantha Rolle and Atwell Burrows Jr.

Outreach event this weekend seeks to save young Bahamian men By JEFFARAH GIBSON Tribune Features Writer jgibson@tribunemedia.net
A
DAMANT that there are more people to reach outside the four walls of the church, the D’Antoine Wesley Burrows Outreach Ministry is hosting a community give-back and evangelism event for those in need. The ministry has organised the event for this Saturday at the Nassau Village Park, from 7.30am to 2pm. The event is being held under the theme “Saving the Lives of Young Men.” Breakfast will be offered and groceries and clothing items will be distributed. There will also be worship session and the sharing of the word of God. Founder of the outreach ministry, Monique Burrows, said she wants to use this opportunity to bring the community together to cry for the young men, intercede on their behalf and share the good news of Jesus Christ. Ms Burrows said with the recent spate of murders and violence happening in the community, it is imperative that the intercessors ban to pray. This cause is near and dear to Ms Burrows’ heart,
as she has been a victim of crime and violence. Her son, D’Antoine Burrows, was gunned down on March 6, 2015 after leaving a barbershop. This tragedy, she said, broke her heart and put her in a deep, dark place. However, she said losing her son became a turning point in her life. “This sparked me to turn my life around,” she told Tribune Religion. The outreach ministry was established on June 28, 2015 and its slogan is “Fallen Sons, Mothers Still Standing”. “The Holy Spirit spoke to me and told me my situation was not for me but was for other people. The pain that I went through it was purpose. I always say that my pain has a purpose,” said Ms Burrows. “From then I have seen God use me tremendously to reach out to mothers and to sons.” Ms Burrows, who goes by the title “The Messenger”, is calling on mothers to come to the event to pray for their children. “I am really trying to reach out to mothers and encourage them to live a life that is pleasing to God. We have to be an example for our children to follow. We are to be positive role models community outreach for Nassau Village,” she said. “There is a scripture that says the violent are going to take it by force and that is what we want to do. We want to take our community back,” she said. One of the reasons she has passion for hosting outreach events is because she can minister faceto-face, on a personal; something that being in a church and preaching
from a pulpit does not allow. “We need to get out of the four walls. There are some people who do not have clothes to wear and do not have clothes to wear to come to church, so they really do not come. This has been one of my cries that we have to get out of the church and into the community,” said Ms Burrows.
“I watched God really shake me in my ministry. I was preaching to people in the church until I realised that they are not my audience. My audience is the people out there. There are people who are hurting, they are dealing with heartbreak, divorce, poverty, brokenness…we have to go out to them.” Creating church in the park, she said, will serve people who need help.
“When we take with them and minister to them, they then ask what church we are from and they want to attend. That is how we win souls,” she said. “Ultimately, our message is that all is not lost. There is a God who sees and fix things. We want all the intercessors to join in, and the mothers to come out and pray.”

GLOBAL JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES EVENT PROMOTES PURSUIT OF PEACE Convention unites 239 countries in more than 500 languages
A
GAINST the tragic backdrop of a historic conflict in Europe, Nassau will unite with millions around the globe to promote the timely theme “Pursue Peace” as they participate in a six-part annual event scheduled for July and August 2022. “For the last 28 years, I have been attending conventions of Jehovah’s Witnesses,” said Serita Bain of Nassau. “They’ve never left me disappointed. After each convention, I always think: ‘this is the best one yet.’ The theme of ‘Peace’ is especially timely because it is desperately needed in our homes and communities and globally.” Jehovah’s Witnesses have been holding global conventions for more than 100 years, the last three years featuring virtual events accessed through the free JW Library app or at jw.org. “In the Bahamas and even the world, there are political and religious differences which cause peace to evade individuals,” said Mark Taylor, spokesperson for Jehovah’s Witnesses in the
Bahamas. This convention will highlight how we can attain true peace. We wish that all in the community can join us.” Prior to 2020, Jehovah’s Witnesses held their annual convention locally at the Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Dolphin Drive. While they hope to host in-person large gatherings again in the future, the decision was made late last year to again hold the 2022 convention virtually. On April 1 congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses began meeting in person for the first time in two years locally and around the world. “This convention is an object lesson in how peace is being achieved by a global community right now as it unites millions of people even in areas of conflict like Ukraine and Russia,” said Robert Hendriks, Jehovah’s Witnesses spokesperson for the US. “The power of the principles being discussed transcends national borders, ethnic differences and language barriers. Both individuals and families will benefit from attending the programme.”
The three-day convention will be available in six parts, each corresponding to a half day of content. Topics to be explored are: How love leads to inner peace and peace with others. Why the Bible can be called “the road map to family peace.” How to attain peace even when suffering illness, economic problems, natural disasters or other difficulties. What people from around the world are doing to enjoy peace. Why friendship with God can lead to true peace. The convention will conclude with the presentation “Universal Peace is Sure to Come!” All are invited to attend the event by going to jw.org on the web or JW Broadcasting on the free JW Library app available for iOS or Android, or on streaming platforms like ROKU TV, Apple TV and others. The programme is free and accessible to all. For more information, please contact Jehovah’s Witnesses United States at (718) 560-5600 or pid@ jw.org.

hare Ali McIntosh, leader of the Bahamas Constitution Party, has been officially ordained as a Minister of the Gospel. She was recently ordained in the United States, in Georgia, as well as in the Bahama. Her ordination comes after more than 30 years of work for the church and the nation. An advocate for righteous governance and servant leadership, Minister McIntosh recently published her book “How to Reconstruct a Nation Righteous Principles for National Leadership & Governance”. The first ordination service took place in Albany, Georgia under the leadership of Overseer Apostle DG Taylor and an eightmember ordination board on March 27. There, Ms McIntosh was licenced and ordained as a minister, elder and servant leader by the Praise Power
Deliverance Fellowship Ministries Inc (PPDFM). It is a fellowship of Apostolic Churches in the southern United States, based in Georgia and spreading to other states. As a result of her ordination, Minister McIntosh has been asked to serve as the international director of recruitment and the advisor on global servant leadership for the PPDFM. In addition, she will lead the new ministry, Servant Leadership Ministries International (SLMI). This ministry is designed to train and encourage ministers of the gospel regarding servant leadership characteristics within their ministries. Minister McIntosh then returned to New Providence and was ordained on June 30 in a service of thanksgiving and consecration. Several local apostles and ministers officiated, led by Chief Apostle Stefan Russell,
Overseer of the Circle of Deliverance Worldwide Fellowship of Churches, and Prophetess Patrice Smith of Kingdom Explosion Ministries International. The service was convened to recognise the international ordination, launch and establish Servant Leadership Ministries International locally; bless Ms McIntosh’s recently published book, and to make the official presentation of her ministerial credentials to the local church. This new phase of her life, Ms McIntosh said, came about “based on divine instructions following the 2021 general elections to have hands laid on her for the work of the ministry in the nation.” The Feeding The Whole Man Deliverance Ministries and Apostle Janet Archer hosted the event and provided their
sanctuary for the occasion of this launch. Before being presented with the official credentials of a newly ordained minister, Ms McIntosh was robed by Apostle Agnes Glinton and Prophetess Patrice Smith. She was then anointed with oil and hands were laid upon her with prayers by the gathering, setting her apart for the work of the gospel ministry in the nation. Also participating in the event were Pastor Mario Moxey, senior pastor of Bahamas Harvest Church and vice president of Bahamas Christian Council; Bishop Ivan F Butler, senior pastor of Kemp Road Ministries; Apostle Utah Taylor Rolle, senior pastor of New Oasis of Love Kingdom Ministries; Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Personal Ministries Director Pastor Dr Peter Joseph, and Prophet Julian Smith and Pastor
Angelino Cooper, who blew the shophar. Greetings came from Dr Jacinta Higgs of Civil Society Bahamas; Elder David Knowles of SDA Lay Prayer Ministries; Dwayne Huyler, chairman of the Bahamas Constitution Party National, and Apostle Felix Rolle. Psalmist Minister Terrance Rodgers and company provided the music. Minister McIntosh launched her book in early January in the Atlanta Metro area (City of Newnan), and presented a plaque and a copy of her book to the Mayor Keith Brady of Newman, Georgia. It was published in the by Kimberley Stewart and Christian Living Books in Largo, Maryland. The first five chapters of the book are free at www. howtoreconstructanation. com, where a hard copy or an e-book can also be purchased.
The plaques were presented to the mayors of Newnan and Hampton for their generosity towards the Bahamian people during the Hurricane Dorian relief drive organised by the Ali McIntosh Children Charity in September 2019, when the AMCC raised a 20 ft container filled with goods for the people of Abaco and Grand Bahama. Minister McIntosh is the president and CEO of S Ali McIntosh & Associates Leadership Consultants. She is also the chairman of the Josiah Institute for Leadership and Public Policy, a tertiary level institute she founded for the purpose of training leaders and public servants for the institutionalisation of good governance.
