BAHAMIAN forward
Leano Rolle will continue his collegiate basketball career at the NCAA Division I level after signing with Missouri State University for the 2026-27 season.
Missouri State head coach Cuonzo Martin announced Rolle as the latest addition to the Bears’ roster, bringing in a player who emerged as one of the top junior college prospects in the country following a strong sophomore campaign at Southwest
The 6-foot-7 forward averaged 14.4 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 block per game last season while shooting 50.3 per cent from the feld. He connected on 36 three-pointers and helped Southwest Mississippi fnish with a 17-15 record.
Rolle scored in double fgures in 20 of his 29 appearances, including eight games with at least 20 points and three double-doubles. His best performance of the season came in a victory over LA Knights on November 5, 2025, when he scored 27 points on 10-of-14 shooting.

His production earned national recognition, as JucoRecruiting.com ranked him as the No. 60 junior college prospect in the country.
Missouri State head coach Cuonzo Martin praised Rolle’s athleticism and development.
“Leano is a gifted athlete and arguably has the best leaping ability of any player I’ve ever coached,” Martin said. “What impresses me most isn’t how high he can jump, but how naturally he moves and impacts the game. He’s a special talent with a bright future, and I’ve enjoyed watching his growth.”
Before his breakout season at Southwest Mississippi, Rolle spent his freshman year at Arizona Western College. He appeared in 16 games with fve starts and averaged 6.4
points and 3.3 rebounds per contest for a Matadors team that fnished 23-8.
During that season, he reached double fgures seven times and recorded a season-high 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting in a win over Imperial Valley on November 5, 2024.
Rolle completed high school at The Legacy School of Sport Sciences in Spring, Texas, during the 2023-24 academic year. Prior to that, he played at North Florida Educational Institute in Jacksonville, Florida, where he averaged 8.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game as a junior and helped the Eagles post a 22-9 record. His performances also placed him among Florida’s top 100 prospects in the 2024 PrepHoops. com rankings. Rolle comes from a family with strong basketball ties. He is the cousin of Bahamian and Philadelphia 76ers guard Valdez “VJ” Edgecombe, who is regarded as one of the country’s top young basketball talents.
With his move to Missouri State, Rolle becomes the latest Bahamian player to earn an opportunity at the NCAA Division I level and will look to continue the progression that turned him into one of junior college basketball’s most highly regarded prospects.
BAHAMIAN coach
Nashad Mackey has secured another opportunity at the NCAA Division I level after being named an assistant coach with the Mercer University men’s basketball programme. Mackey joins a coaching staf that includes associate head coach Woody Taylor, assistant coach Tysor Anderson, strength and conditioning coach Shawn Moran, and graduate assistants Jordan Harbeck and Reese Sauerbrun. The group will lead the Bears into the 2026-27 season.
The move comes after Mackey spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach at USC Upstate. During his time with the Spartans, he was involved in player development and mentoring several of the programme’s top performers. USC Upstate fnished the 2025-26 campaign with a 13-19 record and went 5-11 in Big South Conference play. Before his stint at USC Upstate, Mackey built an impressive coaching résumé through stops at the University of Tennessee-Martin, Daytona State College and
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. At Tennessee-Martin, he helped the Skyhawks capture the programme’s frst Ohio Valley Conference regular-season championship. The team also recorded 14 conference victories, a school record, and fnished with 21 wins overall.
Mackey also spent a season at Daytona State College, where the Falcons posted a program-best 27 victories. The team claimed the Florida College System Activities Association Conference Championship and fnished the season ranked
No. 8 nationally, the highest fnal ranking in programme history.
His coaching career also included two seasons as a graduate assistant at Embry-Riddle. In his second year, the Eagles advanced to their frst NCAA Division II National Tournament and fnished with a 24-10 record and a Sweet 16 appearance. Away from the collegiate ranks, Mackey continues to be involved with basketball in The Bahamas.
The former senior men’s national team player was recently selected to the coaching staf for Team
Bahamas as it prepares for games in the frst round of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup Americas Qualifers. Before moving into coaching, Mackey enjoyed a standout playing career at Daytona State and Embry-Riddle from 2015 to 2019. He fnished with 1,663 points and 1,319 rebounds during his collegiate career. At Embry-Riddle, Mackey became the only player in programme history to complete his career averaging a double-double, posting 17.2 points and 12.2 rebounds per game. He also earned consecutive

NEW YORK (AP) — AJ Dybantsa is on his way to Washington and ready to start working as soon as he gets there.
That's not until today. Tuesday was a night for the NBA's No. 1 draft pick to party.
“Obviously this night is just a celebration of all the hard work I’ve done in the past, and so now I’m going to celebrate,” Dybantsa said.
So were a record number of one-and-done college stars who followed him, a trio of national champions from Michigan and fans of both New York teams on what sounded like an even more festive NBA draft than usual.
The Wizards started it by selecting Dybantsa, a forward who led the nation in scoring in his one season at BYU. He averaged 25.5 points, highlighted by a 43-point efort that broke BYU's freshman scoring record, and was the frst of a record-tying eight straight college freshman taken to begin the draft. That matched the record set last year. Morez Johnson Jr. at No. 9 was the frst non-freshman.
“I think down the road we can continue to do this,” Dybantsa

said. “They are comparing us to a certain amount of draft classes. Obviously we have to see how that plays out and how we do in the league, but if we talk it into existence, I think that would be pretty special.”
At 6-foot-9 and 217 pounds, Dybantsa has drawn comparisons to Kevin Durant, who happens to be his favorite player. Durant grew up in the Washington area, and Wizards fans can only hope Dybantsa can live up to the comparisons. They certainly hope he will be better than center Kwame
Brown, the pick Washington made in 2001, the frst time it had the No. 1 selection after the NBA changed draft formats to eliminate territorial picks in 1966. The Wizards took John Wall in 2010 the other time, and he did turn into an All-Star.
Dybantsa — who was called by his full name, Anicet Dybantsa Jr., in tribute to his father — appeared to say a quick prayer after his name was announced, then went on stage to greet Commissioner Adam Silver and slipped on a black Wizards hat
that matched nicely with his black suit.
Dybantsa beat out fellow freshman Darryn Peterson of Kansas, who was taken at the No. 2 pick by Utah.
While some thought Peterson had the most talent in the class, the guard missed 11 games during the season because of injuries and illness, potentially creating some questions that Dybantsa didn't have.
“I can’t go back and change anything now,” Peterson said. “Obviously I wanted to be the No. 1 pick, but I went No. 2. So now I’m prepared to go to Utah and get to work.”
Cameron Boozer, the college player of the year in his one season at Duke, was taken at No. 3 by Memphis. Caleb Wilson, another freshman forward from rival North Carolina, went to Chicago with the next pick.
Those players were the expected top four throughout the pre-draft process, though there was certainly a case for Peterson to go frst with his promise.
Or for Boozer, with his body of work after he put up 22.5 points, 10.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game for Duke, where his father, Carlos, also played before becoming a two-time NBA All-Star.
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) — Austin Reaves is re-signing with the Los Angeles Lakers on a fouryear contract worth $185 million, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press yesterday.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal is not yet ofcial for Reaves, who cements his status as one of the most successful undrafted players in recent NBA history with this contract.
Reaves is declining his $14.9 million player option for the upcoming season to reach this deal with the team that signed him out of Oklahoma after the draft in 2021. The shifty guard has grown into one of the NBA's most efective scorers and playmakers, increasing his scoring average in every season of his fve-year career.
The 28-year-old Reaves averaged 23.3 points, 5.5 assists and 4.7 rebounds last season despite missing two signifcant chunks of the year with injuries that followed him into the postseason. He has also developed a close bond with his Lakers backcourt partner, NBA scoring champion Luka Doncic.

ATLANTA (AP) — Soufane Rahimi and Gessime Yassine came of the bench to help Morocco rally for a 4-2 victory over Haiti yesterday and erase the Caribbean nation's hopes of a frst ever point at the World Cup.
Morocco, which became the frst African team to reach the World Cup semifnals four years ago in Qatar, twice came from behind against a team playing on soccer's biggest stage for the frst time in 52 years.
Rahimi’s defected shot in the 78th minute put Morocco ahead 3-2 and Yassine killed of any
chance of an upset with a goal in the 89th. Morocco advanced to the round of 32 in second place behind Brazil in Group C and will next play the runner up in Group F — Netherlands, Japan or Sweden — in Guadalajara. The fve-time champion Brazilians beat Scotland 3-0 in the other group match. (See story below)
“At times we lacked humility and paid the price for it," Morocco midfelder Bilal El Khannouss said.
"We weren’t fully committed in the duels, we gave them confdence and allowed them to grow into the game and score twice.
At halftime, the coach told us we needed to be more aggressive, win the second balls and bring greater
intensity to our attacking play.”
Morocco, which won the most recent Africa Cup of Nations, has ambitions to go deep again after making history at the last World Cup.
But the team was given a scare by Haiti, which took a surprise lead in the 10th minute with a goal that was more than fve decades in the making.
Lenny Jospeh’s backheeled fick at the near post beat Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou and he became his country’s frst scorer at a World Cup since Emmanuel Sanon in 1974, which was Haiti’s only other appearance at the tournament.
Morocco pushed for an equaliser and Achraf
Hakimi fnally got it in the 39th minute.
Haiti keeper Johny Placide managed to get a hand to El Khannouss’ defected cross, but couldn't prevent Hakimi from bundling the ball over the line.
Although Morocco looked to be ready to explode for more goals, it was Haiti that again took the lead four minutes later when Wilson Isidor scored from outside the box with a shot that few into the top corner.
There was still time for another goal at the end of a thrilling half with Ismael Saibari sweeping Hakimi’s cross past Placide in stoppage time to make it 2-2 at the break.
It was Saibari’s third goal of the tournament.

MIAMI GARDENS, Florida (AP) — Vinícius
Júnior scored two goals,
Matheus Cunha also scored and fve-time World Cup champion Brazil beat Scotland 3-0 yesterday, advancing to the knockout stage as the Group C winner. Vinícius — who has a goal in all three of Brazil's group matches — scored in the seventh minute.
And Junior scored again just before halftime, tying Norway's Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé of France with four goals, one behind Lionel Messi of Argentina.
Brazil reached the knockout rounds for the 15th consecutive World Cup.
Morocco fnished second in the group and also
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Switzerland put a damper on Canada's World Cup party in Vancouver.
The Swiss got goals from Rubén Vargas and Johan Manzambi to beat Canada 2-1 yesterday and win
Group B.
Now Switzerland will get a week of rest before returning to the same city to face one of the eight best
advanced, rallying to beat Haiti 4-2.
Neymar entered as a substitute in the 76th, making his debut after a right calf injury sidelined him for Brazil's frst two matches.
The majority-Brazilian crowd at Hard Rock Stadium began chanting his name midway through the second half as he got of the bench and began doing warmup sprints on the sideline — and fans roared as he trotted onto the pitch.
Neymar is Brazil’s career scoring leader with 79 goals in 130 international appearances.
The 34-year-old forward appeared in each of the past three World Cups for Brazil, scoring eight goals.
Scotland is playing in its frst World Cup since 1998 and has become one of the more interesting teams of the tournament.

third-place fnishers on July 2. “I think that we deserve to be where we are right now," Switzerland coach Murat Yakin said.
“In three days from now, we will know the opponent of the next match, and now we have the possibility to watch this tournament, and to watch the matches, and we will take what we will get.”
Canada dropped to second place in the group and will play in the knockout round for the frst time
in team history. But the Canadians had been hoping for a win or a draw on Wednesday so they would play their round of 32 match on home soil.
Instead, Canada will travel Inglewood, California, for its next game on Sunday against the second-place fnisher in Group A.
“We wanted to be here in Vancouver, but we still have a massive opportunity ahead of us to fnd a way to still electrify the
nation, even though it’ll be from Los Angeles," Canada coach Jesse Marsch said.
After Manzambi came of the bench and scored two goals in Switzerland’s 4-1 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina on Thursday, he earned a spot in the starting lineup against Canada.
The 20-year-old midfelder became the youngest player to score two goals of the bench in the World Cup and is among the breakout young stars at the tournament.

Vargas broke through for Switzerland about 40 seconds into the second half with a strike that sailed past sliding Canada goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau, hit the post and went into the net. Breel Embolo then crossed the ball to Manzambi, whose shot went through the hands of Crépeau to put the Swiss up 2-0 in the 57th minute.
The goal quieted the redclad sellout crowd, which included Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani.
Canada pulled a goal back in the 76th. Promise
David scored with a volley on his frst touch of the game about a minute after he came on as a substitute. But despite a furry of chances, the Canadians couldn't fnd the second goal to keep them at home. Switzerland captain Granit Xhaka had a chance in the scoreless frst half but his free kick in the 37th minute and sailed over the net as he let out a yell. Ali Ahmed had one of Canada’s best attempts of the frst half in the 42nd minute, but his shot to the near post was smothered by Switzerland goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.
The 18-year-old Alajbegovic became the eighth-youngest scorer in World Cup history when he powered a shot past Qatar goalkeeper Mahmud Abunada at the near post from 20 yards away.
Bosnia-Herzegovina tacked on a second goal in the 34th minute when Sead Kolasinac launched a cross to the back post.
A volley to the middle by Edin Dzeko defected of Qatar’s Sultan Al-Brake for an own goal.
Hassan Al Haydos kept Qatar, which did not win a game in the tournament, competitive with a goal in the 42nd minute.
But in the second half, Bosnia-Herzegovina once again went up by two goals when Ermin Mahmic, who scored in a 4-1 loss to Switzerland, tallied another in the 80th minute.
SEATTLE (AP) — Bosnia-Herzegovina eliminated Qatar and boosted its chances of advancing at the World Cup with a 3-1 victory in a Group B match yesterday. With the victory, the third-place fnishing Bosnia-Herzegovina is more than likely to advance to the Round of 32 in the expanded feld. The eight best third-place fnishers across the 12 groups advance. Should Bosnia-Herzegovina advance to the knockout round, it would mark the frst time in national team history at the World Cup. Bosnia-Herzegovina has played in only one other World Cup — 2014 in Brazil. Kerim Alajbegovic scored in the 29th minute to give Bosnia-Herzegovina a lead it would never relinquish.
