‘This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it’ BY ALESHA CADET | TRIBUNE FEATURES WRITER | ACADET@TRIBUNEMEDIA.NET
P
SALM 118:24 reads: “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” It is a Bible verse often quoted by many Christians in relation to a general appreciation of life. Some households and schools have over the years made it a staple prayer to start a day of activities. Tribune Religion spoke with several Bahamians who shared what the popular scripture means to them. Gail Moss said when yesterdays are gone, tomorrows are not guaranteed; so why not be grateful for the present day and do what you can with it. “The scripture teaches us to be bountiful and live an abundant life today; this very day as this is the day the Lord has made. Yesterday may have been rough at work, in my household, or a day out running errands. But today, I am grateful for the gift of life. I know that I am blessed, and I appreciate that I am blessed because I was able to wake up, pray, have a conversation with my family, laugh with them, go on a morning exercise and sing in my car on the way to work. I was able to do that today and I am thankful God has given me such a day to be glad and rejoice in it,” said Gail. Amanda Johnson said in her view it is not God’s intention for His people to be sad, rather it is for them to be happy. “The turnout you wanted today, consider it already done in God’s eyes. You may not know which day you are going to get what you are looking for, but that’s the joy in it. The joy is knowing God is waking you up each day to look forward to better days ahead. You have a whole 24 hours a day to do great things while waiting for great things. Live each day
Learning to choose joy in hard times takes effort and action on your part, and it requires people’s hearts to be set on Him.
like you have received what you asked for. The verse is telling us to rejoice regardless; be thankful in the midst of it all,” said Amanda. According to the website, www.ibelieve.com, Psalm 118 is a powerful reminder that true joy is never dependent on people’s circumstances. And though people may know this in their minds, it may be hard to live accordingly every day. Learning to choose joy in hard times takes effort and action on your part, and it requires people’s hearts to be set on Him. “God is faithful to help us, so that we can choose well. And we can be assured
that in His grace, He has made every day, and for that gift itself we can ‘rejoice and be glad in it.’ No matter what we face, we can still believe in God’s goodness and love, for that’s what carries us through the most difficult of seasons. And in taking a closer look at the verses surrounding this truth, we can find even greater insight into what God may be saying. This verse and those surrounding it are actually prophecies of Christ’s coming,” the website states Bahamian believer Marcie Forbes said she has made a habit of thanking God every morning when she wakes up for the day she woke up in.
“Whether there is thunder and lightning outside or there is a bright sun and clear skies, I say thank you because I am breathing and that is a rejoicing moment all in itself. Thank God for my eyes that can see, for my hands that can touch, for my nose that can smell. Without God’s love for me and grace, I won’t have anything,” she said. “He sees it fit for me to still be here on earth and I make the most out of each day given to me. There is abundant life in the Lord’s presence every day and I am grateful for the daily reminder of Psalm 118:24 to start my day with gratitude. God is forever worthy of praise.”

Ordinations and baptisms in Exuma By Vanessa C Smith REV Stephen Smith and the Ebenezer Union Baptist family in Exuma recently ordained one new deacon and three deaconesses in the persons of Rowena Rolle, Bernese Marshall, Karen Winters and Samson Macwan of India. Rev Smith said the congregants of Ebenezer follow the principle of Acts for the commissioning of the disciples when choosing the deacons and deaconesses. Deacon Urban Smith conducted the training sessions for the new ordinands who all are equipped and ready for the task at hand. Some of the duties include serving the Lord’s supper during the communion service, overseeing the upkeep of the church edifice and tending to the sick, shutins and widows. “You have a charge to keep and to glorify God,” said Rev Smith as he conducted the installation and commissioning. Family, friends and well-wishers were also in attendance to support their loved ones. Prior to the ordination service, five people were also baptised and joined the church.
BAPTISM candidates Reginald Smith, Andre Curry, Alan Wells, Deon Davis and Tonnell Kelly.

VERY leader needs supporters, a group of people who will stand behind them and help make their vision a reality. Without this “supporting cast”, any leaders’ chances of achieving their goals may be next to an impossible task. But how do you find or raise this group of supporters? Apostle Kelson Miller’s new book may just have the answers. His new book, “Supporting Cast”, walks readers - who may also be leaders of ministries, businesses, or on jobs - through the steps of occupying a pivotal role and accomplishing great goals. Apostle Miller is the pastor and founder of the Born Again Deliverance United Christian Fellowship Centre in Nassau. While he steered the ship at the Centre for some time, he credits the team he had around him with the success of the ministry. “Every leader needs a good supporting cast - persons that are called to stand by them and work closely with them. This book details who is a part of the supporting cast and how important it is to have a good team which is willing to stand with you no matter what circumstances you may find yourself in. Whether you are in business, ministry or any leadership role you may find yourself in, a supporting cast is vital to your success,” he said. Apostle Miller said this supporting cast must understand that there will be good and hard times. “It is important that those who stand with the leader know that there will be times when a leading man might find themselves in a critical moment. It is during these times that the supporting cast should not abandon the leader, rather stand shoulder to shoulder with him in the heat of the battle,” he said. The book was published by Apostle Miller’s wife, Minister Aleacha Miller, who recently launched her newest business venture, the Mill’s Marketing and Publishing Group of Companies. She said her husband has kept a collection of notes on leadership over the years that she was able to put together into a book and publish. “My husband does a lot of writing. I could find at least 20 books in his notes. And he would always say I have a book to publish. So they are in his notes like sitting potentials. One day I decided to extract those notes, retype (them) and started formatting. I then put it in book form, had a cover design, and I showed it to him,” she said. Mrs Miller said her passion for publishing fuelled her throughout this entire process. Additionally, she is convinced the her husband’s wisdom on leadership needed to be shared.

Every leader needs a “supporting cast” BY JEFFARAH GIBSON | TRIBUNE FEATURES WRITER | JGIBSON@TRIBUNEMEDIA.NET
APOSTLE Kelson Miller and his wife and publisher, Aleacha. “This is a really good book for leadership. A pastor who got a copy read it and decided to get six more copies. He said it is good for leadership; training everything he needed for ministry,” she said. Now that the book has been launched, Mrs Miller said she feels a sense of pride, accomplishment and purpose. “I was just so excited. I couldn’t wait to get it out. It is an accomplishment for the both of us,” she said. But more importantly, Mrs Miller said there is a great deal of information and experience shared in the book that can help those in leadership roles get to the place they need to with their supporting cast.
