What’s your prayer for your mom?

FOR many Bahamians, while Mother’s Day is a time celebration and “giving flowers while they are still around to smell them”, it’s also time for a sacred pause.

It’s a time to reflect, honour, and uplift the women whose love often laid the foundation.

This year, we asked Bahamians one question: “What’s your prayer for your mom?” From whispered wishes to heaven to declarations of healing, joy, and remembrance, their responses revealed the powerful emotional and spiritual bonds that endure through every season of motherhood.

And this Sunday many mothers will follow tradition as they gather in parishes across the islands in a posture of worship, where they will be blessed by some of the prayers by their children.

“I pray God keeps her in peace and laughter.”

For Candice, her mother’s sacrifice is etched into her memory.

“She raised four of us on her own,” Candice said. There were times we did not even know she was struggling, because she always had this smile like everything was fine. Now that I’m older, I see what she carried. So my prayer is simply for peace and laughter. I want her to have a season in life where she does not have to be strong all the time. Where she can just enjoy the fruit of everything she’s planted in us.”

“That she continues to walk in strength, even when she feels weak.”

In Grand Bahama, Tyrone lifts a prayer for the unseen burdens mothers bear. “My mother is one of those women who don’t show their pain,” he said.

“She’ll be battling a storm inside and still make everyone breakfast and ask how you are doing. My prayer is that God strengthens her even in her silence. That He sees the tears she never lets fall in front of us and reminds her she’s never alone.”

“Lord, give her the desires of her heart—she’s poured so much into ours.”

For D’Andrea said her prayer comes from a place of admiration and hope.
