At the time of his death, he was reading the Scriptures and took his last breath with the Holy Bible in his hands. His early education was at the Ministry of Education Schools, Government High School and Calabar High School in Kingston, Jamaica. He was nurtured in the faith at Wesley Methodist Church, Grants Town. He earned degrees in Theology and Philosophy from The University of Aberdeen where he received his PhD. He served as Methodist tutor/warden at the United Theological College of the West Indies, lectured at Templeton Theological Seminary (now closed) and College of the Bahamas (now the University of the Bahamas). He also served as superintendent of the Boy’s Industrial School, now the Simpson C Penn Center for Boys. He founded The Bethany Bible & Training Institute and for a few years served as interim pastor at Our Savior Lutheran Church. He served as chaplin of Queen’s College in Nassau, and the Rand Memorial Hospital in Freeport. He was a man who wore many hats and was blessed with many talents. I believe it is safe to say the he was a “pastor’s pastor”. He challenged us all in our walk with God and our stewardship in ministry through his example, teachings, humility and friendship. He was a prolific writer, penning such books as “Pimps in the Pulpit”, “Obama in Prophecy”, and his latest, “Praying the Lord’s Prayer”. He was also the ghost writer for many prominent figures. In addition, he wrote many articles for the newspapers here in the Bahamas and had a weekly column in the Freeport News, where he dealt with topical matters and issues facing the nation and the Church. He was an expounder of the gospel, and an elder who sat in the “Council of the Godly”, and was arguably, the theologian

Having served as a pastor, superintendent and president/chairman emeritus in a career spanning over 40 years, he showed not only his commitment to the work, but also the conviction that God had placed on his life. Even in the twilight of his years, his faith remained strong and he never stop dreaming and serving God, especially here in the Grand Bahama Circuit. During the time of his ministry, he continued to follow the admonition of Acts 20:28: “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over which the Holy Spirit had made you overseer, to feed the church of God, which he had purchased with his own blood.” His compassion, kindness, understanding, and love were ever present, along with his stance and commitment to biblical principles. He was the type of preacher whose life reflected his sermons. He loved the people called Methodist, and was proud of her heritage in the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos Islands, the Caribbean, and the wider world. All of us who came into his presence, especially us younger ministers, stood in the presence of a giant of a man, a great man, a scholar, a burden-bearing friend, and his depth of perception for the needs of others. He stood for truth, justice, goodness and service. There are hundreds or thousands of us who were influenced by him and who will struggled to “walk in his shoe.” He changed our lives, and I believe we were all blessed by his transformative ministry. We thank God for him, his life and his ministry. The Methodist Church has lost one of its best preachers, the army of God one of its best generals, and the nation, one of its best sons! “For all the saints who from the labor’s rest, Who thee by faith before the world confessed, Thy name, O Christ, be forever bless’d. Alleluia, Alleluia!” May eternal rest be granted unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul rest in peace!
