NON-BAHAMIAN labourers on The Pointe’s construction site triple the number of Bahamian workers at the downtown Nassau development, an investigation into its work force complement has revealed. A Department of Labour report, according to Labour Minister Dion Foulkes, says there are 73 foreign workers and 24 Bahamians presently working on the site. Asked whether this supported the view that The Pointe’s developers – China Construction America – were in breach of the specified worker ratio of 70 Bahamians to 30 foreigners detailed in the heads of agreement, Mr Foulkes said: “They are not in breach.” SEE PAGE FIVE

THE Royal Bahamas Police Force says it will not condone acts of impropriety committed by police officers toward members of the public. The statement came after two viral videos drew criticism across social media in the last week for depicting officers’ physical attacks on people. In the most recent video, posted to Facebook on Wednesday, an officer struck a man in the face at least twice. The man did not appear to be resisting arrest. SEE PAGE THREE

of an earlier crash two months ago. Deputy Chief Magistrate Subusola Swain further ordered that Angela Colebrooke, of South Beach Drive, also receive grief counselling for causing Chet Smith’s death on East Street and Malcolm Road on February 26. Before being sentenced,
Colebrooke had pleaded guilty to the one count of killing in the course of dangerous driving with which she was charged. The Crown had maintained that shortly after 1pm on the date in question, Colebrooke drove west along Malcolm Road

AN oil exploration “game changer” for The Bahamas took “a huge step forward” yesterday with the signing of a three-month exclusivity deal on a drilling joint venture. Simon Potter, of Bahamas Petroleum Company, said it had reached agreement with “a highly respected, major international oil company” to begin negotiations that could result in in the “spudding” of a well near Andros.
