OR this a group of Bahamian girl bosses it doesn’t matter what level of success they achieve, they always understand that their ability to thrive in their respective industries can only come from first cultivating a wholesome spiritual life and keeping God first in all things. For this reason, the Bahamian Girl Boss Gang, pictured, also known as BGSquared, took a different approach to their regular beach celebration, which is usually held around the Easter holiday. They decided to host a morning of prayer and fitness fun at Montague Park instead. It evolved into their inaugural Women’s Prayer Breakfast, which was attended by dozens of women. According to organisers, the event was a complete success. Intercessors made the atmosphere conducive for women to worship freely. And wrapping it all up was Strong Curves 242, which offered an entertaining workout session. “The initiative was themed ‘Health, Hustle, Hallelujah’, reminding women to, take care of their bodies through exercising, to be mindful and not take for granted the resources and businesses that give opportunities to provide, and to acknowledge God in everything they do, because He graces us every day to have good health and a prosperous
hustle,” said Jewel Knowles, president and founder of the organisation. Women from all walks of life, both the elderly and the young, came together to be strengthened spiritually, inspired physically and unified in a sisterly manner. The Girl Boss Gang was launched last Summer during the peak of the pandemic. BGSquared’s mission is for women to come together to network, share real-life stories, and uplift each other spiritually. Ms Knowles, who is a well-known entrepreneur and owner of Lewej Ltd, said she realised there was a need for women to embrace balance and to bloom successfully year-round through their personal and professional ventures, like the national flower, the yellow elder. Due to the many challenges she has faced in her life, Ms Knowles said she developed a passion for mentoring young women in personal matters and business ventures, allowing God to use her in a mighty way and pushing others in the right direction. She is grateful to all members, participants and sponsors for being a part of this movement and for their generous contributions, both big and small. “We are always grateful. Stay tuned for more powerful moves in the months to come,” she said.

MEDITATION OUR GOOD SHEPHERD BY REV ANGELA C BOSFIELD PALACIOUS HAVING a good shepherd is an amazing relationship and well worth our serious consideration. Our shepherd is: 1. An ever-present leader 2. A self-sacrificing servant of God 3. An example for each of us This shepherd is a gift to us from God and our gratitude should be immense and constant. 1. A shepherd who leads and is ever present On some of our islands where there are sheep, it is possible to observe how sheep all mixed together sort themselves out to follow their own shepherd. Sitting in a car waiting for them to cross the road in Long Island I saw this fascinating scene with my own eyes. Sheep follow their faithful and trustworthy shepherd, as in Psalm 23. This shepherd leads us, we are told by the psalmist to lie down in green pastures to feed on the best, and by still and fresh water where it is easy to quench our thirst. Our souls are revived, strengthened and restored for the journey in the right direction to make good decisions. What do green grass and fresh water represent in your life? Where do you go to find inner peace and spiritual rejuvenation? How often do you allow God to do this for you? Where and when was the last time? The Lord has come to be like a shepherd
RELIGION to be fully present with us, leading, guiding, nourishing and teaching us about right living. The prayer, “ O God you will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are fixed on you; for in returning and rest we shall be saved, in quietness and trust shall be our strength” is taken from Isaiah 26:3 and 30:15. The collect or prayer for Good Shepherd Sunday (BCP) may be added to our devotions as well: “O God, whose Son Jesus is the Good Shepherd of your people: Grant that we who hear His voice may know Him who calls us each by name and follow where He leads.” Our loving Shepherd knows us by name and is calling us to an intimate and personal relationship. 2. The self-sacrificing shepherd In John 10:11, Jesus says, “I am the Good Shepherd who is willing to die for the sheep.” This is why our Good Shepherd is to be trusted. If we were to be asked about our faith in Jesus, we can point to the cross. This shepherd selflessly gave up His life to rescue us from the “wolf,” Satan. Easter is the season to celebrate the glorious work of our Shepherd who “only could unlock the gate of heaven and let us in” (words from a childhood hymn). How well do you know your shepherd? Never doubt your worth and value to God, and when you feel unloved look at the cross to measure how very special you are. 3. The Shepherd who leads by example. 1 John 3:16 makes the connection for us: “We know love by this, that he laid down his life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for one another. How does God’s love abide in anyone who has the world’s goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses to help?” Who needs our help? What can we
offer when it comes to time, money, talent or skill? Are we junior good shepherds offering leadership by teaching, training, mentoring, parenting, and influencing others? This is our time to emulate the approach of our good shepherd by offering loving

DMX’S LIFE OF PRAYER
RELIGION
A look back at the late rapper’s religious expression
THE TRIBUNE
EARL SIMMONS, more popularly known as “DMX”.
BY ALESHA CADET | TRIBUNE FEATURES WRITER | ACADET@TRIBUNEMEDIA.NET

ITH a voice that demanded to be heard, the late rapper DMX won over people all around the world, not just with his music, but also with his prayers. DMX, whose real name was Earl Simmons, was one of the music industry’s most influential rappers since 1990s. He died on April 9, 2021, of a heart attack, possibly resulting from a drug overdose, at age 50. The troubled rapper had been battling addiction since the age of 14, had been in jail 30 times for various offences, and was the father of 15 children from nine different women. Yet through all his struggles, he remained a spiritual man. There are countless videos on the web of DMX – which stands for “Dark Man X” - talking about his spiritual life and journey. Over the years, and throughout his career, he expressed no shame in speaking the word of God wherever he went and on all platforms. He declared during an Instagram live Bible study video last year that he takes very opportunity he has to pray. In a 2016 interview with The Breakfast Club, he shared with the hosts: “I started my day off with words of thanks and praise to God. However, the day is going to be, it is going to be better than it would have been if I didn’t start my day off without talking to God first, so I am just grateful that I am alive this morning.”
When host Charlamagne said, “X, I am surprised you have not turned fullfledged pastor yet”, DMX responded with”“Maybe I am already, but that’s definitely the final destination, or a destination.” He went on to say he never knew how far God was going to allow him to get in life or how many people He was going to allow him to reach. DMX said he made it a habit before going on stage to pray that he was able to touch just one person. “If I am able to do that, then I have done something wonderful with my life, not just that moment, but with my life. I really don’t focus on what people think about me or what people say about me. I stand on what I believe about myself,” he said. “People look at me as hypocritical or a contradiction, but under the influence, that’s when you need God more. Why not talk to him then? God knows my heart. He knows that sometimes that’s when I need him, and He was there. He’s always been there. I didn’t always know when I needed Him. We all know what God is capable of doing. We all know what God is able to do but we don’t know what He’s willing to do until we are in a situation where we need Him to do it.” There are many people who recognised and respected DMX for his religious expression, including fellow rapper Missy Elliot, who said in a post soon after DMX’s death: “Even though you had battles, you touched so many through your music. And when you
would pray, so many people felt that. No matter where, you prayed, whether at a show or on the street, you spoke with conviction.” Gospel music star Kirk Franklin shared in a video posted to his Instagram page: “Like many of you, I have been so touched watching a lot of these videos being reposted of DMX praying. Man, I love it because it is so real, so pure. They are so free of ‘churchisms’ and I think it is beautiful, because unfortunately, we have made many of you think that you have got to be pretty before you can present it. And that is not what Jesus died for. Jesus died for the dirt that you keep trying to clean. If you can do it, then you don’t need Jesus. Jesus came for the dirt. Let Him in, into every room. God bless DMX.” In a 2019 Sunday service hosted by Kanye West, DMX opened the show in prayer, saying: “Father God, thank you for making me righteous and acceptance through the blood of Jesus because of that I am blessed and highly favoured by you. I am the object of your affection; your favour surrounds me as a shield. And the first thing people come in contact with is my favourite shield. Thank you that I have favour with you and man today. All day long people go out of their way to help me. Doors that were once closed are now open for me. “I receive preferential treatment. I have special privileges. I am God’s favourite child, no good thing will He withhold from me. Because of God’s
favour, my enemies will not triumph over me.” When DMX took to Instagram last year during lockdowns in America to host a Bible study session, he had 14,000 people tune in. “God put it on my heart to speak. This is new to me, it’s not what I do. I ain’t with showing everybody what I’m doing every minute, that’s just not me, that’s not how I get down. You see me when you see me, it is what it is. I’m not gonna change, I love who I am. I am God’s child, we all are. If you don’t know it, you gonna miss out on so many blessings that He has for you. It just comes from being aware. The word says, my people perish for lack of knowledge,” said DMX during that session. He went on to read the scripture of Ecclesiastes 3:16 that says: “I saw something else under the sun: in the place of judgment - wickedness was there, in the place of justice - wickedness was there. I said in my heart, ‘God will judge the righteous and the wicked, since there is a time for every activity and every deed.’” DMX encouraged all those tuned in to get closer to God and become familiar with Him. “With God - whatever it is - it is gonna be all right. When you truly have God whatever it is - it is gonna be alright. And if you don’t know, that is God’s will. The story has already been written. Get into the word. It’ll make whatever it is you’re going through, a lot easier to deal with,” said DMX.
