movement, but a fellowship. So he renamed it Network Faith Evangelism.

In 2021, the NWFEA was registered as an association in the Bahamas.

As a result of his faithfulness over the years, Bishop Knowles as now been named as the presiding bishop and senior apostle of the Network Faith Evangelism (NWFEA) – a fellowship which has over several churches under its umbrella.

Tomorrow, an “enthronement” service for Bishop Knowles will be held Forerunner Deliverance Ministries International, situated on Jerome Avenue & Chesapeake Road, beginning at 7pm.

Host pastor, Apostle Elect Jermaine Jones, who is also a member of the NWFEA and leader of the House of the Prophets, will preside over the service.

Attending this convocation will be Archbishop Designate William Joseph Freeman of North Carolina, who is also the founder and international presider of Holy Trinity Covenant Fellowship International.

Bishop Dr Elton PowellNehemiah of Wall Ministries International in the US and many others from across America, Africa, the Caribbean and Bahamas will be also be attending the event.

The convocation will culminate on Sunday with gospel artists led by Adrianna Munnings taking the congregation on a praise and worship concert journey.

Bishop Knowles, who founded NWFEA, was a former lead singer for the band called New Sensation, which had such hits as “Dey Comin’ by Boat, Comin by Plane”, and “Abaco Tiger”, just to name a few.

He came up with the vision of NWFEA in 2011 after he received the call from God on his life to start what was called then ‘The Spiritual Awakening Revival’.

But the movement did not materialise until July 2018 when Bishop Knowles, with

the help of friends like Minister Elect Leavon Ferguson and the lateAllan Floyd McClain, paid for several pastors and ministers to travel to the islands of Exuma and Eleuthera, and then in 2019,

to Andros for the birthday celebration of his 104-year-old grandmother, Pastor Emeritus Glendina Knowles. It was then when Bishop Knowles realised that this was more than a

Prior to this, Bishop Knowles served in many other religious organisations in many different roles, including as deacon, elder, praise and worship leader, brotherhood secretary, assistant men’s president and youth leader. In 202, he was invited to the US where he was consecrated as a bishop by the New Destiny Fellowship of Churches International.

There, he held the position as mission director and first assistant presider. In 2022, he was redirected by the Holy Spirit to go back to his first love of evangelism, not knowing what else God had in stored for him.

He now knows his mission is to bridge the gap between the four walls of the church and the community; winning souls for Christ, networking for the kingdom, impacting lives here in the Bahamas and elsewhere.

His network has two radio programmes on two different radio stations: 107.9FM ZNS on Sundays from 4pm to 4.30pm, and on Global 99.5FM, also on airs Sunday from 5.30pm to 6.30pm

Gospel artist releases new spoken word project to inspire local youth

Called “ Victory: Vol 1”, Dr Clarke told Tribune Religion that this project was inspired by his own training in personal development, as well as from a desire to provide bits of wisdom on various topics to initiate positive life changes in others.

Through his Occupy initiative, he has over the years sought to help shape character, teach discipline, foster business acumen and promote health within the country’s youth. Core areas of the programme include education, vocation/trade, entrepreneurship, faith, philanthropy, health, financial literacy, and etiquette.

“I distinctly remember after being a featured speaker at the Caribbean Regional Compliance Conference, having the urge to create more published content like this. In this largely professional and technical setting, I was bolstering the delegates’ soft and interpersonal skills. I was convinced that whether professional or personal, many want to navigate to a place of victory,” he said.

As an interpersonal and soft skills coach, Dr Clarke said he wanted to add a practical approach. So, this project, he said, can be seen as a resource to assist in building emotional intelligence and leadership qualities.

“Given the busy nature of life, I thought it necessary

to present this in an audio format, which provides anyone with an easy way to digest the information while driving, walking or working out. If you are a youth worker, guidance counsellor, a parent, or someone seeking to personally enhance their lives, this is a great way to start the conversation about that journey. Ultimately, my goal is to add to the pool of a person’s personal resources to aid in their empowerment,” said Dr Clarke.

The Occupy founder said lately he has had many rewarding experiences.

“The one that stands out is my meeting with Margaret Keung, president of Boys and Girls Club of America, Palm Springs. I was given a tour of the facility by her team and saw the operation’s impact on thousands of young people. It truly inspired me to do and be more. Hopefully this project is a reflection of that,” said Dr Clarke.

“ Victory: Vol 1” is available on several digital platforms worldwide, including Apple, Amazon and on YouTube free of charge.

“There will be regular releases in the spoken word genre in the next 12-month cycle. For more information, email occupymentorshipprogram@ gmail.com,” said Dr Clarke.

St George’s Anglican Church celebrates its patronal festival

This sunday, members of st George’s Anglican Church in the “Valley” will celebrate their annual Feast of Title, or the patronal festival, recognising the feast day of st George, the Martyr.

“it’s the return of the normal patronal festival celebrations,” said Fr Andrew Toppin, the sixth rector of the church. “What the COViD19 pandemic took away, we, through the power of Almighty God, will reinvigorate, that being the return of our diocesan wide celebration, complete with outdoor procession of witness, benediction of the Blessed sacrament and a time of face-to-face fellowship after the service.”

A patronal festival is the celebration of the patron saint of a church. in this instance, st George, the Martyr, to whom the “Valley” church was dedicated 75 years.

Legend says he was born in Cappadocia, an area which is now in Turkey, in the third century. George became a soldier in the Roman army and rose to the rank of tribune.

The emperor of the day, Diocletian (245-313 AD), began a campaign against Christians at the very beginning of the fourth century. in about 303 AD, George is said to have objected to this persecution and resigned from his military post in protest. he tore up the Emperor's order against Christians. This infuriated Diocletian, and George was imprisoned and tortured, but he refused to deny his faith. Eventually, he was dragged through the streets of Diospolis (now Lydda) in Palestine and beheaded.

“We celebrate the life of George because of his courage, fidelity and his life lived for Christ, even to the point of death,” said Fr Toppin.

“Our celebrations are marked by three important services,” said Adrian Archer, parish administrator. “On sunday, we will be pleased to welcome Archdeacons Dwight Rolle and hugh Bartlett, who are guest preachers at our 7am and 9am masses, respectively. Then at 3.30pm, we will welcome clergy and parishioners from around the diocese for our patronal festival services which take the form of festal evensong, led by our rector, Fr Toppin, with our bishop, the Right Rev Laish Boyd, as the guest preacher. immediately after the sermon, we along with our guests will march through the community in the procession of witnesses prior to the conclusion of the service which takes the form of benediction of the Blessed sacrament. At the conclusion of the service, a time of fellowship for all will be held on the ground of the church.”

The patronal festival procession route will process onto Montrose Avenue, south to Ludlow street, north to Mount Royal Avenue, east to Carew street to the church.

The services are open to all.

Charles Stanley, influential Baptist preacher, dies at 90

ATLANTA Associated Press

Charles stanley, a prominent televangelist who once led the southern Baptist Convention, died tuesday at his home in atlanta at age 90, In touch Ministries announced. no cause of death was announced.

Born in rural Dry Fork, Virginia, stanley was senior pastor of First Baptist Church of atlanta for 50 years. the church grew rapidly after he became its leader in 1971, moving from central atlanta to a suburban campus in 1997 to accommodate a growing flock in the sprawling urban area.

“We are forever grateful for his enduring legacy of faithful leadership and spiritual guidance,” the church said in a social media post.

But his greatest fame came from his role in hosting “In touch with Dr Charles stanley,” a Christian teaching programme that began airing on the newborn Christian Broadcasting network in 1978. that led to the creation of a separate nonprofit, In touch Ministries, that sent stanley's broadcasts across the nation and world through radio and television. It even created solar-powered audio players containing the Bible, some of stanley's sermons and other materials that are available in more than 100 languages. stanley also wrote more than 40 books.

When stanley stepped down from First Baptist as senior pastor in 2020, he said he wasn’t planning to stop preaching, instead focusing his energies on In touch Ministries.

“I’ll continue to preach the gospel as long as God allows, and my goal remains the same: to get the truth of the gospel to as many people as possible as quickly as possible in the power of the holy spirit to the glory of God,” stanley said in a video message to the church when he took on the title of pastor emeritus.

stanley served two one-year terms as president of the southern Baptist Convention in 1985 and 1986, at the peak of a time when theological conservatives were fighting to oust more moderate leaders from leadership roles in the convention and its seminaries, saying the church needed to be truer to Biblical authority.

“My election infuriated the opposition and ultimately revealed many of the underlying problems that had existed in the convention for a long time but had either been ignored or denied," stanley wrote in a 2016 autobiography. "all the liberal and moderate political forces of the southern Baptist Convention were against me, which included seminary presidents and state convention newspapers.”

In his first term, stanley helped stop congregations from ordaining women. his second election in 1985 was bolstered by a last-minute telegram of support from famous evangelist Billy Graham, the atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

“after stanley’s election, the battle subsided and eventually the moderates moved on from the fight or away from the denomination,” ed stetzer, executive director of Billy Graham Center at Wheaton College in Illinois, told the newspaper.

stanley was also a devoted photographer of nature and the outdoors, with many of pictures reproduced by In touch publications.

stanley separated from his longtime wife, anna, in the 1990s, before divorcing in 2000. although First Baptist had barred divorced men as ministers, and stanley had once said he would resign if his wife left him, the church affirmed him remaining pastor.

some other evangelical Christians panned the decision. Dissenters included his son, andy stanley, who said he wanted his father to offer to quit and let the church decide. Instead, it was andy stanley who left the congregation and founded northpoint Ministries, a network of eight evangelical Christian churches in atlanta and its suburbs. he and his sister Becky survive Charles stanley, Despite the split, andy stanley told WaGa-tV that his father was a role model for pastors.

“not just how to preach or how to build a church," said andy stanley. “But how to get to a finish line with integrity and to be able to look back and be proud of everything that came before, and unfortunately that’s increasingly rare.”

What did Jesus wear?

Origins and Second Temple Judaism, King's College London

(THE CONVERSATION) –

Over the past few decades, the question of what Jesus looked like has cropped up again and again. Much has been made of a digital reconstruction of a Judaean man created for a BBC documentary, Son of God, in 2001. This was based on an ancient skull and, using the latest technology (as it was), shows the head of a stocky fellow with a somewhat worried expression.

Rightly, the skin tone is olive, and the hair and beard black and shortish, but the nose, lips, neck, eyes, eyelids, eyebrows, fat cover and expression are all totally conjectural. Putting flesh on ancient skulls is not an exact science, because the soft tissue and cartilage are unknown.

Nevertheless, for me as a historian, trying to visualise Jesus accurately is a way to understand Jesus more accurately, too.

The Jesus we’ve inherited from centuries of Christian art is not accurate, but it is a powerful brand. A man with long hair parted in the middle and a long beard – often with fair skin, light brown hair and blue eyes – has become the widely accepted likeness. We imagine Jesus in long robes with baggy sleeves, as he is most often depicted in artworks over the centuries.

In contemporary films, from Zefirelli’s Jesus of Nazareth (1977) onwards, this styling prevails, even when Jesus’ clothing is considered poorly made.

There were many reasons why Jesus was portrayed in what has become the worldwide standard, and none of them were to do with preserving historical accuracy. I explore these in my new book What did Jesus look like?, but ultimately, I look to clues in early texts and archaeology for the real Jesus.

For me, Jesus’ appearance is not all about flesh and bones. After all, our bodies are not just bodies. As the sociologist Chris Shilling argues, they are “both

personal resources and social symbols that ‘give off’ messages about identity”. We can be old, young, tall, short, weighty, thin, dark-skinned, light-skinned, frizzy-haired, straight-haired, and so on, but our appearance does not begin and end with our physical bodies. In a crowd, we may look for a friend’s scarf rather than their hair or nose. What we do with our bodies creates an appearance.

incidental details. From the Bible (for example, Mark 6:56) you can discover that he wore a mantle – a large shawl (“himation” in Greek) – which had tassels, described as “edges”; a distinctively Jewish tallith in a form it was in antiquity. Usually made of wool, a mantle could be large or small, thick or fine, coloured or natural, but for men there was a preference for undyed types.

He walked in sandals, as implied in multiple Biblical passages (see Matthew 3:11; Mark 1:7, 6:9; John 1:27), and we now know what ancient Judaean sandals were like as they have been preserved in dry caves by the Dead Sea.

He wore a tunic (chitōn), which for men normally finished slightly below the knees, not at the ankles. Among men, only the very rich wore long tunics. Indeed, Jesus specifically identifies men who dress in long tunics (“stolai”, Mark 12:38) as wrongly receiving honour from people who are impressed by their fine attire, when in fact they unjustly devour widows’ houses.

Jesus’s tunic was also made of one piece of cloth only (John 19:23-24). That’s strange, because mostly tunics were made of two pieces sewn at the shoulders and sides. One-piece tunics in first-century Judaea were normally thin undergarments or children’s wear. We shouldn’t think of contemporary underwear, but wearing a onepiece on its own was probably not good form. It was extremely basic.

his means of livelihood in a disgraceful and importunate way” – by begging or receiving donations.

From the perspective of respectable people, we can surmise then that Jesus looked relatively rough. When the Christian writer Origen argued against Celsus, he rejected many of his assertions, but he did not dispute this.

And so, while Jesus wore similar clothes to other Jewish men in many respects, his “look” was scruffy. I doubt his hair was particularly long as depicted in most artwork, given male norms of the time, but it was surely not well-tended. Wearing a basic tunic that other people wore as an undergarment would fit with Jesus’ detachment regarding material things (Matthew 6:19-21, 28–29; Luke 6:34-35, 12:22-28) and concern for the poor (Luke 6:20-23).

This, to me, is the beginning of a different way of seeing Jesus, and one very relevant for our times of massive inequality between rich and poor, as in the Roman Empire. Jesus aligned himself with the poor and this would have been obvious from how he looked.

And so, Jesus’ appearance would have had much to do with what he was wearing. Once we’ve got the palette for his colouring right, given he was a Jewish man of the Middle East, how do we dress him? How did he seem to people of the time?

Dressed in basics

There is no neat physical description of Jesus in the Gospels or in ancient Christian literature. But there are

‘Shamefully’ shabby?

Perhaps it is unsurprising, then, that Jesus was remembered as looking shabby by a scholar named Celsus, writing in the mid second century, in a treatise against the Christians. Celsus did his homework. He interviewed people, and he –like us – was quite interested in what Jesus looked like. From Jews and others he questioned, he heard that Jesus “wandered about most shamefully in the sight of all”. He “obtained

The appearance of Jesus matters because it cuts to the heart of his message. However, he is depicted in film and art today, he needs to be shown as one of the have-nots; his teaching can only be truly understood from this perspective.

Ministry of Education Pre-School Week begins with religious teaching about forgiveness

Throngs of preschool teachers, parents and well-wishers donned their Sunday's best and assembled at the Anglican Church of St Ambrose Anglican on Carmichael and Gladstone Roads to begin their week of festivities.

Under the leadership of Leja Burrows, the rank and file of the Pre-School Division under the Ministry of Education banner, gathered on Sunday, April 16, to invoke God's blessings on their respective vocations and diverse ministries.

Rector Rev Chester Burton preached the sermon and his assistant, Archdeacon James

Palacious (retired diocesan administrator), celebrated the Eucharist. The gospel passage for the second Sunday of Easter was taken from John's Gospel chapter 20 verses 19 to 31.

This segment of John's Gospel deals with a postresurrection encounter with Jesus. John describes his fellow disciples as a fearful cadre of followers locked in the Upper Room because of fear of them being arrested like their leader (rabbi), Jesus Christ. John records that the resurrected Jesus came into their midst unbeknowst to his disciples. He told His disciples “peace be still" and then he showed them his hands

and his side. Thomas, one of his disciples, commonly referred to as Doubting Thomas, wasn’t there, and when his fellow disciples told of their encounter, he retorted he would not believe it unless he could place his hands in Jesus' wounds, in His hands and on His side. A week later, Jesus appeared again to his disciples. This time, Thomas is present, and Jesus called Thomas personally to place his fingers in Jesus hands and His side. Thomas proclaimed boldly and benevolently, “My Lord and My God.” Jesus admonishes the gathering by saying, "Blessed are those who have not seen and come to believe.”

Fr Burton, in exegetically breaking down this section of the gospel, told the parishioners that in order for them to truly understand this portion of scripture, they must first define the word “reconciliation”. He posited that this word simply means saying “sorry” for something or to someone we may have offended or wronged.

Fr Burton said in a volume of Rev Angela Palacious works entitled "Reconciliation", she states that we have all wronged someone at one time or the other.

It is sin, he added, that separates, divides and destroys. Fr Burton said

one of Jesus' parables that epitomises the concept of reconciliation is the parable of the Prodigal Son. He told the congregation that the son first separated himself from his family members. Secondly, he divided his earnings with his friends, and thirdly, he was at the point of destruction when he was tempted to eat pig food. But eventually, he came to his senses and returned to ask forgiveness and reconciliation from his father.

Fr Burton asserted that his father truly forgave his son, but his brother never forgave his brother the grievous sin of leaving home.

Jesus' resurrection appearance was to restore

the disciples’ credibility and accountability.

Fr Burton told the educators that children present to espouse the keenest examples of forgiveness.

He gave as an example an instance in kindergarten where two children are playing with a particular toy. An argument erupts and the two kids separate after a few minutes, then come back together and continue playing. Fr Burton said adults need to take a page out of children’s playbook.

He concluded with saying that when we forgive and ask forgiveness, a heavy burden is lifted off us.
