PRAYER DRIVE BLESSES LEADERS OF THE COMMUNITY BY JEFFARAH GIBSON | TRIBUNE FEATURES WRITER | JGIBSON@TRIBUNEMEDIA.NET WITH a firm belief in the power and necessity of prayer in our lives, Prayer Works International recently hosted its fourth annual Prayer Symposium and Prayer Drive. The symposium was held last Friday at the Church of God of Prophecy, Carmichael Road. It was an invitation to all those who needed a prayer and those who wished to learn how to pray strategically. During the event there was an intercessory prayer session, worship, what was described as a “powerful” teaching by Pastor Terrance Forbes, and a word from Apostle Dr Brenda Pratt. Special guests included Patricia Minnis, wife of Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis, as well as Bishop Hulan Hanna and Dr Ann Higgins. “The topic ‘The Heart of an Intercessor’ stirred us; it was by Pastor Terrance Forbes, who gave an overview of the attributes of an intercessor. The anointed word came from Apostle Dr Brenda Pratt of Global Worship Centre and Manning the Gates Bahamas. Apostle Pratt encouraged us to be fastened to the mercy seat and also unshakeable in prayer. It was a powerful time,” said Minister Patricia Bain of Prayer Works. Intercession happened early the following day as intercessors assembled at Montagu Beach at 5.30am, where participants engaged in prayers led by Ministers Angela Butler and Christina Smith. “It was a beautiful morning and the bright moon was an indication of the light and glory of God in our midst. We embarked from Montagu Beach, led by officers of the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Sergeant Johnson, along with her team. A motorcade of around 20 plus vehicles travelled onto Shirley Street and prayed along the way to Rawson Square. Psalm 20:5 declares, ‘May we shout for joy over your victory and lift up our banners in the name of our God. May the Lord grant all your requests.’ Our flags raised high, as we drove the streets and prayers travelled to Shirley Street, Kemp Road, to Okra Hill and Mackey Streets. We declared change in our nation, to our homes, businesses and lives. Prayer works,” said Minister Bain. The group moved from location to location praying for the nation. “We were met at Rawson Square by Pastor Shacarra Curry and her team of Manning the Gates Bahamas, along with additional intercessors. Prayers of repentence and renewal came from Pastor Timothy Johnson of the Church of God of
Prophecy, Blue Hill Road, and from Pastor Dianne Coverley for the upcoming elections and the public at large,” said Minister Bain. “We then moved onto the Office of the Prime Minister, West Bay Street, where prayers went up for the Prime Minister, Dr Hubert Minnis, his wife, Patricia Minnis, and the staff at OPM. The prayers were led by Minister Patricia Pratt for economic recovery, transparency, good stewardship and accountability. Prayers of revival and renewal were led by Minister Elaine Hinsey, visionaire of Women in White. The last session of prayer was led by Pastor Terrance Forbes, who prayed a covering over the intercessors. We were inspired by the Holy Spirit to cover the doors to the office and the Prime Minister’s vehicle, which was parked in the drive way. The power of the Holy Spirit was present and the atmosphere charged. We took back all that the enemy has stolen from us, for the kingdom of God suffered violence, and violence take it by force,” she said. The group’s final stop wasthe Church of God of Prophecy, Carmichael Road, where they arrived praising and celebrating the goodness of the Lord for enabling them to complete the drive. The Prayer Works ministry believes that in interceding for the nation they will see the change that is needed. Minister Bain prayed for the churches in the Bahamas, the leaders, bishops, pastors and ministers to come together in unity and to prepare “for the revival that will come to the nation.” “A final prayer of sealing and benediction was prayed by Pastor Terrance Forbes, Pastor of Church of God of Prophecy. As we had our spiritual food, the physical food was prepared by Chef Charles Missick via drive-through. Video coverage for the event music was provided by Pastor Randy Curtis and the music by Pastor Camarie Curtis. To God be the glory, great things He has done. We were grateful to have intercessors from various denominations throughout Nassau and the US. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much,” said Minister Bain. For prayer requests, contact Minister Patrice Bain at 242-324-3568, 457-1210 or 421-1351. Follow the ministry on Prayer Works International Facebook page. Prayer Works International also hosts a regular weekly programme at 5pm each Sunday on ZNS 107.9 FM or Cable 989.

EASTER MESSAGE FROM THE REV LAISH BOYD
BISHOP OF THE ANGLICAN DIOCESE OF THE BAHAMAS AND TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS “FOR God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” (John 3:17) We thank God for bringing us to a place where we have never been before in our whole lives: to today, to this week, to this month, to Easter 2021. What a milestone! At Easter we celebrate the fact that Jesus rose from the dead. It is a season which signifies not only resurrection, but new life, hope, and new beginnings. Things are different now than they were last Easter: Last year this time we were in the midst of the first, big COVID-19 lockdown. This year, we are not in lockdown. Last year, COVID-19 was a relatively new phenomenon and there was great fear and uncertainty about that unknown. This year, we are in a more comfortable
RELIGION space where we know a lot more about the virus, and we have protocols and procedures in place to manage it safely. Last year, we had no vaccine available. This year, we have the new hope of several available vaccines. Millions of persons have been vaccinated already. I am sure that you can think of ways that your life is better or renewed since last Easter, and ways in which you have new hope. I am also certain that you can think of ways in which you are less fortunate or worse off than you were last year. But, the thing is that we must all try to press on, whatever our circumstances. Easter is about new life and new energy, so let’s try to find that in each new day. Also, let us seek to give encouragement and hope to others in the pain and despair of their lives. This is the real meaning of Easter: not just being renewed or resurrected ourselves, but sharing that and making it possible for others – in whatever small way that we can. It is so easy to see, to feel, and to point out the negatives, but if we could only see more positives (find the silver lining in the dark cloud) we could actually shape our world and our lives for the better. Remember that
our attitude determines our altitude. Every Easter we are reminded about what God did for us: “God so loved the world that He gave his only Son.” (John 3:16). This Easter let us seek to do something for someone else, to brighten their day, to ease their burden, to make them smile,
Thursday, April 1, 2021 ● PAGE 27 to encourage, to give hope – especially in these COVID-19 times. Let us serve the risen saviour who is in the world today. Opportunities for service are right nearby, within arm’s length of each of us. The Anglican Diocese joins me in wishing you a Happy Easter!

A dark week for Lil Nas X – Bahamian Christians speak out against rapper BY ALESHA CADET | TRIBUNE FEATURES WRITER | ACADET@TRIBUNEMEDIA.NET
J
UST months after releasing his children’s book “C For Country”, the Grammy-winning rapper behind “Old Town Road,” Lil Nas X, made headlines this week for his controversial “Montero” music video followed by the release of his “Satan Shoes”. In the music video, that some have deemed “hard to watch”, the rapper is first portrayed as a heavenly being who is then seduced by a demonic creature. He is judged by a group of associates who banish him to hell on a stripper pole where he then gives Satan a lap dance before breaking his neck. Soon after the debut of the video, Lil Nas X announced the release of his “Satan Shoes” in collaboration with Brooklyn-based streetwear company MSCHF. With only 666 pairs of shoes created, the modified Nike Air Max 97s are adorned with a reference to Luke 10:18, a Bible verse about Satan’s fall from heaven, a pentagram pendant, and a drop of human blood in the sole. In an e-mailed statement to USA TODAY, Nike said it was not involved in the creation or release of the sneakers.
According to NBC News, Nike filed a federal trademark infringement lawsuit on Monday against the company that released a controversial customised version of sneakers in collaboration with the rapper. While there are many public figures who are remaining quiet on the topic, there are others who refuse to stay silent. Rapper Joyner Lucas criticised Lil Nas X for his latest song, tweeting: “I think the biggest problem for me is the fact he don’t understand ‘Old Town Road’ is every kid’s anthem. Children love him for that record. They tuned in and subscribed to his channels. So with no disclaimer he just dropped some left field ish and all our kids seen it.” Lil Nas X responded with: “I literally sing about lean and adultery in Old Town Road. U decided to let your child listen. Blame yourself.” Joyner then pointed out how Lil Nas X won and accepted a Nickelodeon’s Kids Choice Award for the popular record. Conservative pastor of Global Vision Bible Church, Greg Locke, hit out at Lil Nas X in a sermon lastt Sunday, saying: “You think I’m going to stand for that?
You’ve lost your mind. You tell Lil Nas X I said so. Bunch of Satanism, bunch of wickedness, bunch of devil-ism, bunch of demonism, bunch of psychotic wickedness.” Republican Governor Kristi Noem of South Dakota also voiced her outrage on Twitter: “Our kids are being told that this kind of product is, not only okay, it’s ‘exclusiv’. But do you know what’s more exclusive? Their God-given eternal soul. We are in a fight for the soul of our nation. We need to fight hard. And we need to fight smart. We have to win.” Bahamians also shared their thoughts on the topic, with Amanda Butler making mention of Lil Nas X’s children’s book. “He’s defending his foolishness by telling persons their children aren’t his responsibility. No they aren’t, but he literally went on record this year with NPR News to literally speak of his children’s book and core audience. The entire interview spoke on the influence his ‘Old Town Road’ record had on children. So all of this is ridiculous, insensitive and just plain disrespectful. There is absolutely nothing wrong with expressing
yourself, but to bash religion in the process? It is wrong. I don’t know why there isn’t an uproar about this. There should be,” she said. Christina Jay added: “I want people to please stay awake in all of this blatant disrespect. This is disgusting. There is no way people can defend this; it is hard to watch. I rebuke whatever he has going on. No thanks, I love Jesus. People will learn to stop playing with God. He can say all day he’s expressing himself, but this is disrespectful. He needs help.” Vanessa Campbell believes many things in today’s world are just getting out of hand. “It is the fact that this generation is so comfortable with going to hell for me. A literal visual of going to hell. Lord have mercy on us all, because this is crazy. The blasphemy is disturbing. There will be people that will say the video is artistic, but that is the wrong word. The video is nothing but demonic. At the end of it all, every knee must bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. Whether people like Lil Nas X like it or not,” she said.
