Pastor Jay Simms will officiate and interment will follow. Sadie Floreen Lowe of Palm Cay, Nassau was born in The Current, Eleuthera on February 10th, 1924 to Edmund Hall and Annie Griffin. Sadie was pre-deceased by her mother Annie Griffin, her father Edmund Hall, her husband Homer Lowe, her daughter Linda Thompson, her Sister Nellie Isaac and brother Noel Hall. She is survived by her son Jimmie (Lori) Lowe, Grandson Stephen (Clare) Thompson, her Granddaughter Rachel Assee, her Grandson Jody Lowe her seven great grandchildren Luke & Jake Thompson, Brooke & Danielle Assee, Ethan, Adrianna & Tiffany Lowe.

1. PREPARING TO PRAY When you do make up your mind to pray at any given time of the day what do you do? • Are you the type of person who likes to play music to have your mind settle down from all the worries of the day, relaxing into a comfortable position, and “getting in the mood” to pray? • Do you prefer to sit in silence, feeling the stress of the day slip away as you rest in the Spirit? • Do you read a psalm like Psalm 23 and allow its familiarity to usher you into God’s presence? • Do you brew a cup of tea or coffee, opening your journal in preparation for a word from God? Whatever you do, make it a daily exercise, preferably several times a day until it is all day. Find opportunities to engage in any or all of the following: 2. Adoration — Give God heartfelt praise for who God is. A popular chorus by Terrye Coelho is: Father we adore You, Lay our lives before You, How we love You Jesus we adore You, Lay our lives before You, How we love You Spirit we adore You, Lay our lives before You, How we love You. 3. Thanksgiving — Grateful thanks is extended to God for all of your many blessings. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 5. Soaking prayer – Repeated prayers that occupy the mind and heart, that are brought before the Lord on a consistently and persistently, and may involve others being solicited to pray as well in the same fashion. An example is found in Luke 18:1-5: And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will
avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. 7. Family legacy – Prayers for the family and nation to break generational curses and to speak positive words of blessing for creativity and success. 2 Samuel 7:18-24: Then went king David in, and sat before the Lord, and he said, Who am I, O Lord God? and what is my house, that thou hast brought me hitherto? And this was yet a small thing in thy sight, O Lord God; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant’s house for a great while to come. And is this the manner of man, O Lord God? Arrow prayer – Short cries for help in times of crisis, for example witnessing an accident, hearing emergency vehicle sirens, or when sudden occurrences happen without warning. 9. Healing prayers — Focus is placed on the healing of body, mind or spirit, relationships, emotions and memories:
Have mercy upon me, O Lord, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly. For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed. I was a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me. I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel. (Psalm 31: 9-12) 10. Deliverance prayer — When there is spiritual warfare occurring. If the person seems to be possessed in some way that is different to mental illness, two persons may be required to address the situation: John 8:34-37: Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. There is power in prayer. Cleaning the junk drawer BY AYANNA CLARKE I GAVE the listeners of voice note series a riddle last week: What is full yet empty? Packed to the brim with nothing at all? Overflowing with extra everything that may never really be good for anything? And the answer? You got it…the junk drawer! The junk drawer is the graveyard of every home, where receipts and chopsticks, matches and ketchup packets, broken earrings and single keys all go to die. Every household has one. A house wouldn’t really be a home without one. No matter how hard we try, we always find ourselves giving space to things we really need to throw away. Maybe it’s timing – we don’t have the time to really deal with it, so we push it in the junk drawer. Perhaps it’s sentimentality – you know, when something means so much you can’t bear to part with it, so it’s stashed somewhere in the junk drawer. Or it could just be complacency – you know you need to get rid of it, and you’ll get around to it eventually sooo…. I’m sure you get it by now. Now, how do we keep this relative? Let’s face it, you wouldn’t really be who you are without some memories or vestiges of the things you’ve passed through. We are, in many cases, the sum or total of our experiences. To say that I feel like the world’s biggest hypocrite right now would be an understatement. How dare I, with all my shortcomings, idiosyncrasies and failures (yes, failures), start a conversation about junk. Like I’ve shared with my readers and listeners, this girl is no angel. She’s got failed attempts, issues with rejection,
RELIGION church hurt, all forms of abuse under her belt. I have no business telling anyone about their junk when I’ve got my own, right? Wrong! Who better to tell you how to recognise, organise and prioritise your internal junk – the mental, emotional, spiritual, familial – than me? Someone well acquainted with and delivered from junk of all forms and fashion. What’s our goal in this conversation? We want to understand that while our experiences may inform who we are they are not the “be-all and end-all” of our existence. Suffice it to say, just like the junk drawer, our memories and the emotional links we have kept to particular events, must be organised and prioritized so that we don’t end up stalled or stuck in one era of our lives, or halted at one level of growth, when there is so much more out there for us to experience. Hebrews 12:1 in the Amplified Bible states: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses (who by faith have testified to the truth of God’s absolute faithfulness), stripping off every unnecessary weight and the sin which so easily and cleverly entangles us, let us run with endurance and active persistence the race that is set before us.” A popular verse to be sure, I am totally enthralled by the words “stripping off unnecessary weight” for two reasons. One, the verse never implies there will be no weight or burden. We’re not gonna walk around problem-free. And secondly, some of the weight, shame, rejection, anger, bitterness, and yes, even hate, we tend to feel are totally unnecessary and should therefore be stripped off, thrown aside, done away with. This translation provides the best defence for carrying burdens but certainly not those that are avoidable, redundant or unfounded. It also teaches us directly from the text that there are those who can bear witness of our trials and share in our triumphs – standing ready to cheer you on as you move past your own junk. We aren’t getting rid of the junk drawer. After all, where would we put
memories of new experiences? We’re organising our junk; naming the keepsakes and the throwaways. Asking ourselves if we have made monuments out of mementos. Gaining wisdom in the simple knowledge that the weight we

HE gospel world was buzzing this past week when an expletive-laden argument between Grammy Award-winning gospel singer Kirk Franklin and his son was released on Instagram. The video was released by his estranged son, 32-year-old Kerrion Franklin, after a family quarrel. Throughout the recording, he is yelling, screaming and using profanities. At the end he video, the gospel artist is heard saying, “I will break your neck if you ever disrespect me.” The elder Franklin, 51, is a beloved and influential figure in the gospel music

Otherwise you will ruin their lives.” This week, Tribune Religion spoke to a number of readers who offered their thoughts on this Bible verse. “When you don’t fault your kids for the wrong they do while they are kids, you are setting them up for big trouble when they become adults,” said Stephanie Brown. “Enabling bad behaviour has a serious ripple effect. Following the release of the audio tape, the singer posted an apology to his fans that drew even more attention. Kirk Franklin took to social media last Saturday to share a video of himself expressing regret over the conversation with his son Kerrion. In expressing his regret, the artist described his relationship with his son as “toxic”. “Recently, my son and I had an argument that he chose to record. I felt extremely disrespected in that conversation and I lost my temper. And I said words that are not appropriate. And I’m sincerely sorry to all of you. I sincerely apologise,” he said, Franklin said the family has been in counselling for years to “rectify this private family matter” and claimed his son intentionally excluded a portion from their explosive call in which the singer tried to bring in the family’s therapist. He ended his apology asking for prayers. Many people in the gospel music community have weighed in on the family drama, criticising the artist for his outburst, saying it was unbecoming of a Christian and a role model. But given that at the heart of Christianity lays the extending grace and mercy to those who seemingly don’t deserve it, should Kirk Franklin be condemned for his outburst? Bahamians gave their take on the trending topic. Jason Rolle said he has always been a fan of Kirk Franklin’s music, but admitted it was disappointing to hear the audio of the exchange between the singer and his son. “It would be crazy to condemn this man just because we are exposed to his son’s transgression. But I don’t condemn Kirk, I condemn is actions though. The

exchange was disappointing to hear, but I mean everyone gets heated in the spur of the moment and when it comes to arguments. Things can escalate rather quickly,” he said. Tanya Ferguson said it was an interesting look into the life of someone who she considered a pillar of the gospel music world. She said the audio didn’t only reveal Franklin’s sins, but also showed his “humanness”. “We listen to these people sing about their relationship with God and about their adoration for Him. And it almost makes us forget that although these people are Christians in the spotlight, they too have weaknesses and battles that they are facing in their lives. We can see that they too struggle with temptation and sin just like us regular folks. While his actions were not good, I believe sometimes we need to see the weakness in these public figures so that we can understand they too are human and need God just like us,” she said. Miriam Rolle, who said she knows just about every Kirk Franklin song, said she expected much more from the artist and wishes he had taken the high road in the argument. “It was just sad to listen to. To hear a father and son go at it back and forth was heartbreaking. I really wished as a person who should be relying on the Holy Spirit to overcome various temptations, he had done that. I wish he had chosen peace instead of strife and walked away from the disagreement. She added: “I don’t think his actions make him any less of a Christian, but maybe what it means is he still has much more maturing to do in certain areas of his private life. Joe Smith said he is reserving his judgement on matter, but prays Frankin and his son can reconcile after this. “Every family has their issues, even

The things Kirk Franklin said to his son were not in the least bit loving, but I pray that whatever issues they are facing are resolved and they can have a stronger connection than they once did.” In an interview with Tamron Hall on her show, Kirk opened up about his relationship with his son while sitting next to his wife, Tammy Collins. He told Tamron: “A lot of people in our family and community have privately known for over 20 years of the tensions and challenges we have been going through as a family. “I have four children. When I married my wife, I had a son and my wife had a daughter, who had been adopted. And so my oldest son and my bonus daughter, who really is my daughter, we raised her together.” “And we have a great relationship with my oldest son’s mother, her name is Sean Ewing, she’s an incredible woman. Early on, Tammy, Sean and myself, we started to realise that there needed to be some deeper help with things that were happening with our son. He continued: “When he was a teenager, we started him in therapy and counselling. We’ve had him in and out of counseling and therapy for 20 years. “As Kerrion became a grown man, his disrespect became more aggressive...So now that he’s about to be 33, as a grown man, the relationship can become very agitated and very frustrating in trying to help but I’m not going to stop trying to help. He’s my son, he’s my firstborn and I don’t want him to feel what I felt not having a father so even though it gets tense and tight, when he calls from time to time, I will answer his call even though I expect it to just kinda derail. “It’s important for me because what if that call is the call where things change? So I never know and I never want to give up.”
