Health officials warn danger remains high as they plan response By RASHAD ROLLE Tribune Senior Reporter rrolle@tribunemedia.net SENIOR health officials warned yesterday the risk of the coronavirus spreading to The Bahamas remains “very high” and that the country’s response to the global crisis must remain “very fluid”. As countries around the world react to the disease’s impact on their own populations, The Bahamas is monitoring virtually hourby-hour the best responses to take to stop the virus entering the country - and what to do if it does.

US REPORT HIGHLIGHTS FAILINGS ON OFFENDERS A NEW US Department of State report said “alleged missteps” by prosecutors and the Royal Bahamas Police Force overshadowed “credible” accusations of corruption in a recent trial. The Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs’ March 2020 report was also critical of this country’s criminal justice system and its ability to ensure drug trafficking offenders faced appropriate penalties.

Health Minister Dr Duane Sands revealed at a press conference The Bahamas had suffered a slight setback in the delivery here by the US Centres for Disease Control of faulty test kits for the virus. He also revealed the country is less likely to continue expanding the list of countries from where travellers are banned because of the diminishing benefits of doing so. Currently, foreign travellers are banned from China, Italy, South Korea and Iran. Bahamians returning from these countries will be quarantined.

A WOMAN was ordered yesterday to pay a $2,500 fine or face six months at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services for prescription fraud. Tietchka Vanderpool-Wallace, 54, was fined $500 each for attempting to commit fraud by false pretence, forgery, unlawful possession and two counts of being in possession of a forged document.
