FNM Leader asks House speaker for for intervention

FREE National Movement leader Michael Pintard says the opposition intends to seek intervention from House Speaker Patricia Deveaux in light of recent actions made by Attorney General Ryan Pinder with respect to the work of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

Mr Pintard, who is also the PAC’s chairman, said a letter requesting the same will be sent to Speaker Deveaux today. He said the move was just one of several actions the opposition intends to take this week to ensure that PAC continues its work without interference from other parties.

“Clearly, the Attorney General, ie the executive, the Prime Minister and Attorney General, has sought to usurp the authority of the Speaker,” Mr Pintard said in an interview with The Tribune yesterday.

Bain And Supporters Try To Demolish Shanty Homes

LINCOLN Bain and several of his supporters were stopped by police on Saturday when they went to a shanty town off Bacardi Road and tried to tear down illegal structures in the unregulated community.

Mr Bain, who is also leader of the Coalition of Independents, went live on Facebook from the shanty town on Saturday.

In the video, Mr Bain and his supporters could be seen walking from home to home through the community, knocking on doors and instructing residents to leave the property.

Homes that did not appear to be occupied were marked by the group.

“You have 15 minutes to take what you want out,” Mr Bain told one shanty town dweller.

$15M TO MAKE BAHAMAS EGG PRODUCTION SELF-SUFFICIENT

THE GOVERNMENT has not cut food security funding by 50 percent but is instead reallocating financing to a $15m project designed to make The Bahamas self-sufficient in egg production, a Cabinet minister has revealed. Clay Sweeting, minister of agriculture, marine resources and Family Island Affairs, revealed to Tribune Business that the ‘Golden Yoke’ initiative - which is due to launch today - is aiming to take domestic Bahamian egg production from 700,000 per year to 28m when complete and fully operational.
