Feeding God’s people By ALESHA CADET Tribune Features Reporter acadet@tribunemedia.net

S this coming Sunday marks the one-year anniversary of its feeding programme, members of the Glory Carriers For Christ Ministries will host a special event on Saturday at Potter’s Cay Dock, from 7 am to 10 am. On the menu will be steamed tuna, steamed sausage, yellow grits, white grits and coned beef. Healthy snack bags, clothing and disposable face masks will also be distributed. Social distancing will be strictly enforced. Stacy Rodgers, founder of Glory Carriers For Christ Ministries, told Tribune Religion she first started the feeding programme’s initiative on Christmas Day 2018 in Freeportm Grand Bahama. At the time, due to work commitments she was unable to travel home to Eleuthera. She felt she was missing out on being around family and friends, which then left her depressed and lonely. “One day, while sobbing out my sorrows, the Holy Spirit spoke to me and said, How do you think those that are homeless, less fortunate, with no families feel?’ I quickly felt a sense of regret for allowing myself to feel the way that I did when there are many more persons feeling the same way. I said to the Lord, ‘What should I do?’, and the Holy Spirit clearly said, ‘Feed my people this Christmas.’”

“Rejecting (first) that this was the voice of God and (considering) I didn’t have that kind of money to host a feeding, I tried finding excuses, but the Holy Spirit had an answer for every one. So I met with my kids, letting them know that this Christmas we wouldn’t be buying each other gifts; we will be feeding a small community. They were in agreement and chipped in,” said Stacy.
One February 13, 2021, Stacy and her newly formed Glory Carriers hosted their first feeding event at the Kemp Road ministry parking lot. She said the response from the people was overwhelming and welcoming. The team did not only physically feed the people, but spiritually and mentally. The food drives are mainly breakfast options, but she is looking to expand in coming
months to include lunch options. “I first mentioned this assignment to six persons that are very close to me and we came together and made it happen; it exceeded my expectations. Not only did the Holy Spirit provide the food and drink items, He provided the clothes and toys as well for the people. One thing the Holy Spirit instructed me in then and even now is to have no
cameras (at the events). Do not expose His children or people for the sake of sponsorship, and if I trust Him, He will provide, and He sure did and still continues to,” she said. “Two days before Christmas my daughters and I went door-to-door inviting everyone in that community; the response was heartwarming. We continued our team food drive up until Hurricane Dorian
came and changed our lives in Grand Bahama. I left the island and relocated to Boynton Beach for six months. And when my time had ended there, I came back and settled here in New Providence.” For a few months, Stacy made constant contributions to the Great Commission Ministries’ feeding programme until, she said, God once again spoke to her in January of 2021, telling her to pick up the baton and start feeding His people here in New Providence. “Being unemployed, I was a little afraid, but I took the leap of faith, trusting in the words the Holy Spirit. Every assignment He gives He makes provisions for and He did and continues to do this every month,” she said. “We have added a clothing drive to our ministry and since adding that, the response has been wonderful. Some of the places we’ve hosted these feedings were Mason Addition Community Park, Cynthia ‘Mother’ Pratt Park, Meadow Street Park and the Potters Cay Dock's police station parking lot - just to name a few. Our motto is to see, treat and care for persons the way God would see, treat and care for us. We also want to prepare their earthly mindsets to become kingdom mindsets. Our goal is to obtain a building, along with two vehicles to deliver food items to those persons that cannot come to us,” said Stacy.
BISHOP NOEL JONES PROPOSES AFTER 28 YEARS By JEFFARAH GIBSON Tribune Features Writer jgibson@tribunemedia.net

FTER 28 years, Bishop Noel Jones has finally proposed to his long-time love Loretta Jones, and the Christian community has been buzzing with feedback. Bishop Jones is the senior pastor of the City of Refuge Church in Gardena, California. The world was introduced to Bishop Jones during his stint on Oxygen’s Preachers of L.A television show. Audiences got a close look into his dating and romantic life. Bishop Jones’ relationship with fiancée Loretta Jones was a major storyline in the series and heavily scrutinised. Although Bishop Jones or his congregation have
not released an official statement yet, but the internet is teeming with videos from a recent celebration where the pastor announced his decision to marry his Loretta. At a recent event, the 72-year-old announced on stage in front of a live audience, “I am telling you today, that I am gonna get married.” He then invited his lady love on stage to join him as he announced the couple’s decision. The Bishop goes on to say, “I thought about should I give up my freedom coat for a straight jacket?” He continued, “I thought about should I, at my age, get married?” The pastor, who is said to have had a very turbulent romantic life, has previously been linked to actress Lisa Raye McCoy and Real
Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes. Rumours of Jones' supposed relationship with Lisa began to circulate in 2011, and he was seen with Nene before she appeared on RHOA in 2008. During Bishop Jones’ time on Preachers of LA, the preacher introduced Loretta to the rest of the world. Bahamian fans of the show are sharing their views online. Sasha said:“Their relationship was puzzling from the show. I always wondered when he would put a ring on it. She had already been in his life so long. I do not understand why he was stalling. I do not know if I would have waited 28 years for a ring that’s a godawfully long time.” Clara on the other hand said she is celebrating along with Bishop Jones, because
“later is always better than never”. “Marriage is a wonderful thing no matter how long it takes for a couple to get there. The race is not for the swift, but for those who endure to the end,” she said. “Everyone’s journey is different and will not be the same. We do not know the ins and outs of their relationship, so we cannot judge and say she should not have waited around for him. She felt to do so in her heart and she is clearly happy with the circumstances.” Samantha said she had always been rooting for the couple, but is surprised it took this long. “Does it really take this long for you to know whether you want to spend the rest of your life with someone? Twenty-eight years is already half your life expectancy so I don’t
BISHOP NOEL JONES AND LORETTA JONES. know who would take long to make a decision like this. Two decades is as long as a marriage. But I’m happy they are solidifying their union,” she said. Avery added: “Congratulations to Lady Loretta, but it would not be me. I get the marriage is something you should only enter into prayerfully and with caution, but it just seems he
The value of vulnerability W
hen you come to the end of your carefully constructed plans, you look at the strange land in which you find yourself and know that it is time for a change. You look around at the chaos of the crisis and your prayer is “Lord, please do a new thing.” The book This Band of Sisterhood is written about five Black female bishops in the Episcoplian Church of the US. Before it was published, they were joined by a sixth. They are ministering in a time of COVID and overt racism to mixed churches in their dioceses as the person in full authority,
not as assistants or associates but as the diocesan bishops. The ecclesiastical buck stops with them, except they know that it has to be passed on to Jesus so that he may take charge of the outcome. Bishop Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows describes the nature of the persons who seem to be elected at this time: “The only way we’re going to be able to move through this is if we can be vulnerable with each other. I see that as a core piece of the leadership that’s needed right now. I think I’ve espoused this theory before, but when I think about who gets elected, I
think it’s the ability to be vulnerable that makes all the difference. I think that someone who is warm, accessible, vulnerable and authoritative can help the Church be those things.” (pg 87) A warm person draws us to come to a loving heart that is welcoming. It is like a heated room on a cold day that invites us as the visitor to shed outer winter garments and become comfortable in a safe space, a friendly place, to drink a warming beverage, which seems to trickle down to our toes. An accessible person is someone who may be
approached and who makes time to engage us in a relationship that says: “I see you and I am here to listen.” This requires an open door policy that does not require hoops and hurdles to have an audience. A vulnerable person is someone who has feelings that are real and readily available to engage with others who might be rejoicing or remorseful, angry or anxious, wounded or weary. We do not encounter a cold or hard heart, a façade of indifference or detachment. Instead, the love of God is evident from the eyes that might have tears, to the

was stalling because he was not sure of her, and that is how it came across during the show. But the best of luck to them both.” Bishop Jones had previously been married to Ruth Jones. The pair were married for more than 20 years and had three children. Ruth was older than him, he said in an interview. the meekness of controlled strength, not the weakness of immaturity or irresponsibility. There is the ability to speak the truth in love and the courage to speak the truth to power. What kind of leader do you think is needed in the church today? What kind of training are we providing for future leaders? What kind of examples are we setting as adults in general, as we lead the next generation in the walk of faithful obedience and holiness? Christ is calling us all to lead in a new way. • Rev Angela Palacious, a motivational speaker and author of several devotional books, is an Anglican priest.
