THE WORST MORTGAGE MISTAKES

WHEN you invest in a home, a lot of thought is put into the type of property you’re buying and whether it suits your lifestyle.

But what about the mortgage?

Do you pay the same amount of attention to detail?

Surprisingly, a lot of buyers don’t spend as much time researching the terms of a mortgage even though it’s probably the biggest expense they’ll face in their lifetime.

AVOID MAKING THESE MISTAKES: Neglecting to Shop Around The various banks and lending institutions offer their own loan packages.

The first step is to prequalify for a loan. You’ll be required to list your assets and liabilities and income to see how much house or property you can afford.

Different banks and lenders will sometimes offer different rates with different terms.

However, selling a home sooner will expose the buyer to risk.

According to some estimates, most borrowers must wait five years to earn back their original closing costs in equity.

Get professional independent guidance.

Mortgage Terms Banks and lending institutions, like any business, will put out catchy phrases to try and lure trade their way. They want your business!

Look beyond the window dressing and determine the true cost of the mortgage - what you will pay in interest and bank fees?

This can be a little complicated as one bank may charge more for one item and less for another. Marshal all the facts together and compare everything item for item to get to the bottom line.

Don’t automatically accept the package on offer. Try and negotiate the terms of the mortgage, and sometimes for a reduction or elimination of some fees.

This creates a nice airy feeling, but sharing space can be distracting. And those air conditioning costs can add up if you have cooling space you don’t need.

Glass can be used to divide rooms without compromising light and openness. The walls or dividers may be half or full length, decorative or framed, slide doors or panels.

Use a glass divider to frame a sofa or book shelves and separate the living and dining areas.
