Mrs. Wiberg was a gifted hostess and will be remembered for her generous hospitality and for the parties and receptions held at her beloved Palmeiras. Jane is remembered by her many friends as an energetic, cheerful, positivethinking, and motivating companion. A stoic who never complained, she may be remembered by many for her strength of character, work ethic, determination and grit. She will be missed but lives on in her children and grandchildren. AHAMIAN pastor and author Glen Rolle believes although crisis may cause chaos it can also create opportunity. In his new book, “Reset: The Destiny of Sovereign”, he explores how the current global COVID-19 pandemic can offer a recalibration for the Bahamas. The new book, published by the Mills Marketing and Publication Group of Companies, comes on the heels of Pastor Rollie’s first book, “The Mantle of Grace”, which he said offered a foundational perspective upon which the next generation can build. “When I wrote the book, ‘The Mantle of Grace’, it was written from the perspective that we need to take another look at how we relate to each other, retool ourselves, with simple but profound foundational truths that our parents and others would have thought us; grace and kindness and its potency in breaking barriers and solving national challenges, removing the toxin and condemning tone of our everyday interaction with others,” he told Tribune Religion. “I mentioned this book first because I felt that ‘Reset’ was evidence of my initial concern; our world is spiraling out of control and it seems, we are bent on tackling national and global challenges that only add to our present dilemma.” Pastor Rolle believes the pandemic is causing a rebirth of sorts. “The world is undergoing a makeover, a new beginning. I wanted to capture that in the context of our own nation, seeing the Bahamas as a symbol or model of ‘Reset’,” he said. “I am a believer that each step of our lives takes us on a journey, so to take on this book I had to take on our historical past, some aspects of the colonial and oppressive eras, not so much as a topic, but an acknowledgement of our journey and what we have yet to overcome.” The book starts with the founding of fathers of the modern Bahamas, the women’s suffrage movement, and the history of other groups who saw equity and justice as important national pillars. “We cannot talk about a reset without acknowledging their fight, their cause and their original idea of nation-building. As a nation, is paradise just a mystical thought, or do these islands rocks and cays truly have within them the tangible and intangible that makes this place the most treasured in the world. How do we become what others see from afar?” Pastor Rolle questions whether the national and global challenges like Hurricane Dorian the COVID-19 pandemic are just happenstance events or if they are markers that indicate the need for a shift. If the Bahamas is going to take on a leading role globally, he said, local leaders, both in the church and the government have to look at what the Bahamas was
meant to be and begin to look within as a significant part of that redirection. The main point of “Reset”, he said, is to look within for the strength of the nation. “We live in a world where information is (right at hand at all times), ideas and perspectives come from all different directions. I am of the view that in an environment of crisis, the perspective one takes is critical to how we go about solving our personal and national challenges. I want my readers to be a part of the
discussion. I hope this book provokes us to engage, provokes us to ask why are we not changing course,” he said. Pastor Rolle is married to Yvette Denise Edwards- Rolle. Together, they parent four children and recently have been blessed with two grand-daughters. Gospel artist continues to make positive impact on nation’s youth

HILE THE pandemic rages on and people around the world and here in the Bahamas continue to adjust to the new normal, organisations like the Occupy Mentorship Programme continue in their work to remain a positive presence in the community, especially in the lives of the nation’s youth. Gospel artist and radio personality Dr Ricardo Clarke’s Occupy initiative has over the past few years timed to shape character, teach discipline, foster business acumen and promote health within the local youth. Core areas of the programme include education, vocation/trade, entrepreneurship, faith, philanthropy, health, financial literacy, and etiquette. “In 2021, Occupy launched its virtual coaching arm, which allowed for private and professional coaching of those who needed a safe space for open dialogue and counselling,” said Dr Clarke. He hosted both face-to-face and Zoom sessions on personal development and leadership with students at CW Sawyer, Centerville Primary and the New Life Apprenticeship Programme in Grand Bahama.
Also, Dr Clarke received a certification as a professional life coach from the CLC Institute in San Fernando, California. This coupled with his years of work in youth development, saw a concentration on tackling crises, personal development and transformational coaching. “The year past was still exciting, despite the consistent disruptions brought on by the pandemic. We launched virtual coaching, had leadership sessions, in-person and virtually, and ultimately seized new opportunities to continue the work and mandate of Occupy. Twenty students from CW Sawyer were presented with certificates from Occupy along with their diplomas and other awards at their prize-giving ceremony,” he said. “Additionally, some of top students in Occupy were given gifts, cash and a personal message from myself for their performance.”

Occupy also donated backpacks, calculators, books, pens, pencils, rulers and socks to students. The group then continued weekly visits at the school for as long as it was permitted in 2021. At the same time, Dr Clarke partnered with the Minister of Education and Member of
Parliament for Englerston Glenys Hanna-Martin to have toys distributed in a door-to-door effort during the holidays. They were able reach out to 100 families in the Yellow Elder Gardens and Englerston communities. “It’s always been our intention at Occupy to cross-pollinate, build
relationships and experiences that will eventually grow our perspective while creating opportunities for the students we mentor. We are extremely grateful to those who have helped us with their generous acts of kindness. Their partnership with us bolstered our community efforts and greatly assist our mission to favourably impact the lives of our nation's youth. They then recounted what had transpired: It turns out the former Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio was a customer during his visits to Rome, and had promised them he’d come visit when he met with them at the Vatican. Pope on COVID vaccines says healthcare a ‘moral obligation’ By NICOLE WINFIELD Associated Press ROME (AP) — Pope Francis suggested Monday that getting vaccinated against the coronavirus was a “moral obligation" and denounced how people had been swayed by “baseless information” to refuse one of the most effective measures to save lives during the pandemic. Francis used some of his strongest words yet calling for people to get vaccinated in a speech to ambassadors accredited to the Holy See, an annual event in which he sets out the Vatican’s foreign policy goals for the year. Francis, 85, has generally shied away from speaking about vaccination as a “moral obligation,” though his COVID-19 advisors have referred to it as a “moral responsibility." Rather, Francis has termed vaccination as “an act of love” and that refusing to get inoculated was “suicidal.” On Monday he went a step further, saying that individuals had a responsibility to care for themselves “and this translates into
respect for the health of those around us. Healthcare is a moral obligation,” he asserted. He lamented that, increasingly, ideological divides were discouraging people from getting vaccinated. “Frequently people let themselves be influenced by the ideology of the moment, often bolstered by baseless information or poorly documented facts,” he said, calling for the adoption of a “reality therapy” to correct this distortion. “Vaccines are not a magical means of healing, yet surely they represent, in addition to other treatments that need to be developed, the most reasonable solution for the prevention of the disease,” he added. Some Catholics, including some conservative U.S. bishops and cardinals, have claimed that vaccines based on research that used cells derived from aborted fetuses were immoral, and have refused to get the jabs. On other topics, Francis lamented Syria's devastation, calling for “political and constitutional reforms" so the country can be “reborn," and urged that any sanctions avoid targeting civilians. He didn't single Russia out by name but called for “acceptable and lasting solutions" for Ukraine and the southern Caucasus inspired by “reciprocal trust and readiness to engage in calm discussion." And he also urged more open communications to avoid culture wars, without mentioning gender ideology or other hot-button topics by name. “(Some attitudes) leave no room for freedom of expression and are now taking the form of the ‘cancel culture' invading many circles and public institutions. Under the guise of defending diversity, it ends up cancelling all sense of identity, with the risk of silencing positions," he warned.
