Dennis Savery came to Hastings over twenty five years ago, but he and his wife, Sandy had cottage experience here when they lived in Clarkson. Dennis became involved in the community from the beginning and he has been part of many organizations. Dennis originally was a supervisor with a pharmaceutical company and ,when his position was going to be eliminated, Dennis and Sandy decided to take the plunge and renovate the cottage with two young children. Dennis became a real estate agent and bought the laundromat and Sandy has become a freelance title researcher. Their children have both left home and are success stories in their own right.

Dennis Savery has been a real estate agent for over twenty five years and he is philosophical about the cycles in market value, and rural desirability. The trend is people moving from the city to the country and working remotely. The prices have dropped, but they will return again. Dennis is also the owner of a laundromat and his experience is that tourists and cottagers frequent his business so do local people who rent without a washing machine.

Dennis Savery is now a councillor representing Ward 5 which includes Northern Percy and Hastings. He admits that there is a steep learning curve to master before each council meeting. He describes Trent Hills council like running a business with limited money, establishing priorities and strategic planning for the future. The work is understanding equipment, infrastructure, and decision making on behalf of the residents. It is about looking at dreams with a realistic viewpoint.

Dennis Savery describes Hasting as a “giant which is waking up”. He is excited about new residential development. He is aware of the need to keep up with infrastructure like water pipes and roads as the population increases. He continues to be concerned about the challenges of transportation. Dennis Savery is a key voice on Trent Hills council so let us make sure he hears all of our concerns.
