SAND: The Crane Hotel, Barbados

The world-renowned swimming pool at The Crane remains the center piece of this luxury resort, being set at the top of a cliff and framed by a row of columns, overlooking the naturally spectacular Crane Beach. The Crane is the Caribbean’s first resort hotel. First opened in 1887, this truly unique property combines old-world charm and incredible natural beauty. With 252 luxuriously appointed residences and suites, this cliff-top resort looks out onto the powder pink sands of Crane Beach, voted one of the world’s best beaches. The Crane goes beyond the typical Caribbean vacation packages, and offers unparalleled service and spacious, luxurious accommodation including private pools, gardens, and rooftop terraces. The resort also boasts award-winning cuisine (five restaurants, two bars), a relaxing spa and six outdoor pools including a cascading waterfall and whirlpool. Many guests at The Crane visit simply to enjoy the resort’s natural beauty and tranquility -- and spend much of their time relaxing on Crane Beach, lounging in their private pools, or tanning at the several pools overlooking the ocean. Nearby nature activities include the “Bat Cave,” a natural bat habitat within walking distance of the resort, and Hawksbill turtle watching, just south of The Crane at Foul Bay. For those who wish to have a little more activity during their stay, The Crane also offers a weekly catamaran cruise for guests in residence and can book a variety of additional activities, including deep sea fishing, island tours, golf or dinner theatre shows. Finish the Year withFun

Behold—2018 is in its final throes and a new year beckons. There are still two months left to fill your diary in order to ensure je ne regrette rien (I have no regrets). Here are five of our favorite fabulous suggestions… By Norah Bradford

DRINK: CHÂTEAU DE CHAUSSE Missing the French Riviera this holiday season? Why not toast adventures past and the summer to come with a glass of Château de Chausse? The Château de Chausse estate lies just nine miles from St. Tropez and crafts some of the most expressive and natural wines that only the St. Tropez peninsula region of France can offer. Bonus: It is organically cultivated from the finest handpicked and hand-pressed grapes across 38 planted acres. Try the Rubis Côtes de Provence 2013, or to get the party started the rave review-scoring Rosé Côtes de Provence 2016. ChateaudeChausse.com

DINE: THE PLAYBOY CLUB Recently opened next to the Cachet Boutique New York hotel, the relaunched Playboy Club New York comprises a lounge, restaurant, and game room. The hotel is the debut American flagship property of Cachet Hospitality Group, which describes itself as providing an urban cultural oasis with 105 contemporary rooms and suites located amidst three outdoor gardens. The hotel’s restaurant EDEN Local, is a hip American eatery with Mediterranean influences. The man to know: ex-Nobu and Harlow’s Ritchie Notar. PlayboyClubNYC.com

SHOP: RICHARD JAMES The British have arrived! Recently opened on Park Avenue in New York is the flagship North American location of Saville Row fashion house Richard James. Founded on the iconic Savile Row, London, in 1992 by designer Richard James and his business partner Sean Dixon, the objective of the brand is simply to produce classic men’s clothing of exceptional quality and push boundaries through color, cut, and design. What distinguishes Richard James from its rivals is its skilled team that works diligently to make this objective a reality—and lucky for us—just in time for the holiday season. Richard-James.com READ: “THE STYLIST: A NOVEL (THE AMBER GREEN SERIES)” Hello! magazine Editor-in-Chief Rosie Nixon recently launched her debut novel about life as a Hollywood stylist to the stars. While a work of fiction, the book will have fashionistas trying the guess the true identities of the characters that may have influenced Nixon’s writing in crafting the tale. In the tradition of “The Devil Wears Prada,” Nixon’s debut novel follows a young woman who is thrown into the fast-paced world of fashion and glamour. Of course, she is forced to navigate the treacherous Hollywood red carpet while finding a fairytale love of her own. Amazon.com

8 Delightful Destinations to See out the Year and Usher in

THE NEW

We present four hot and four cold destinations for you to consider when planning your last vacation of 2018 or your first trip of the new year. Depending on how you like to pack your case—warm woolies for winter or your favorite lightweight beach and sunny weather outfits—the choice, as they say, is all yours… By Norah Bradford

Mar-a-Lago, Florida

Art Basel in Miami Beach, Florida

Ring in the New Year at what is described as “the epicenter of the Palm Beach social scene.” Created on 20 acres by Marjorie Merriweather Post and celebrating its 10th anniversary as the holder of a prestigious sixstar diamond award, Mar-a-Lago is a private members club par excellence. New Year’s Eve celebrations will be the must-score invitation socially, especially as the 45th President of the United States and the First Lady will almost certainly be in attendance.

Early in December, the global contemporary art community flocks to South Beach, Miami, to network and party. This year’s event is planned from December 6-9, 2018, with more than 200 art galleries displaying the works of 4,000 artists. Stay at the best-kept secret Hotel Croydon Miami Beach, a boutique hotel close to the Art Basel action, featuring on-site restaurant The Tavern.

Caribbean

December average temperature: 82 degrees F / 28 C A kaleidoscope of cultures, natural beauty, tastes, and sensations await visitors to the Caribbean. Ranging from St. Barths, regarded as an outpost of the French Rivera, to superyacht racing magnet Antigua, enjoy a diverse variety of experiences. Stay at the Mandarin Oriental, Canouan—the resort has only 26 suites and seven villas, offering guests privacy and relaxation in Mandarin Oriental style. CaribbeanTravel.com MandarinOriental.com

Hawaii

December average temperature: 80 degrees F / 27 C Remote yet familiar, the islands of Hawaii are a part of America—though as you watch the endless ocean unfold for hours while in the air, upon landing you may feel like you are in another world. The islands themselves, while superficially similar to the Caribbean, are more mountainous and more volcanic. Experience the fabulous waters and go surfing in Maui. Take a hike into the mountains on Kona. Play golf at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Manele Golf Course and experience the “Sunset Nine”—golf and cocktails starting at 3 p.m. through sunset while staying at the Four Seasons. It’s time to indulge the five senses as we watch summer transition into fall. Here are the best ways to experience smell, taste, sight, touch, and sound to ready yourself for life’s adventures this month. By Norah Bradford

TASTE: Delmonico’s Restaurant

SIGHT: Dead Rabbit Take in the sights (and taste) of cocktails from the world’s best bar, according to Worlds50BestBars.com, at The Dead Rabbit Grocery and Grog in downtown Manhattan. You’ll love the Victorian 1850s-style tavern, which is authentic to the point of having a wood and sawdust floor dating back to the period. Try the “Talk of the Devil,” which mixes Argentinian with American Navy gin alongside champagne and vermouth. DeadRabbitNYC.com

Visit the new FiDi (Financial District) in New York for an old-school experience, dining at America’s first fine dining restaurant, Delmonico’s. The restaurant pioneered a number of firsts, including private dining rooms, a 1,000-bottle wine cellar, and the first Eggs Benedict prepared in America. Fast forward 180 years to the 2018 menu, which features signature dishes, such as the American Wagyu Tartare, which includes smoked onion crema, potato chips, and quail eggs. For entrées aside from the signature Delmonico steak, try the Salt Brick Amish Chicken. For dessert, the Vanilla Crème Brulee with rhubarb marmalade offers a tart finish to a sumptuous meal. DelmonicosRestaurant.com

SMELL: Lola & Leone Perfume Olga Litvinenko, known to her friends as “Lola,” came across this fragrance while preparing for a society event and uncovered the secret that had been hiding in a perfume bottle from the South of France. Wearing the perfume attracted the attention of a number of fellow guests who inquired about her essence throughout the evening. It was then that Lola decided to make it available to the rest of the world. The perfume’s moniker has both meaning and purpose—it combines the name of a friend who tragically drowned when Lola was 23-years-old with her own. A hand-signed, limited edition of Lola & Leone 100mL 3.3fl. oz. Eau De Parfum includes a refined combination of wood oils, rose, pear, orris, bergamot, star anise, and gardenias. Fresh and sophisticated, this perfume will leave a lasting and “scent”sational impression every time. LolaLeone.com

TOUCH: SANGRIA LOLEA PARTY KIT What does it take to add a touch of pop to your party? A group of friends and the Sangria LOLEA Party Kit, of course! Sangria LOLEA is a Spanish brand of premium and frizzante sangrias and wine cocktails that joins tradition and heritage into a perfect combo of wine and fruit with a touch of fizziness. The party starts when LOLEA arrives—just add ice and enjoy! SangriaLolea.com 64

SOUND: Bruno Mars 24K MAGIC WORLD TOUR IN NYC The concert of the month is music sensation Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic World Tour at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn for two nights only—October 4-5. His most recent hit song, 24K Magic, has received in excess of 1 billion views on YouTube. StubHub ranked Mars the site’s biggest touring act of the year. BrunoMars.com

EUROPE'S “ Fantastic St. Tropez

Billionaires will make their way to their first stop, Côte d’Azur, for a 10-day jaunt in St. Tropez, where yachters explore the decadence of Europe. Port de St. Tropez has been named one of the top five most expensive places to dock a yacht in the world because the marina is comprised of only 30 yacht slips. (Indeed, tipping the port at least a thousand dollars a day is de rigueur.) First up is Le Club 55, frequented by celebrities such as Penelope Cruz and U2’s

Once evening falls, head to Hotel Byblos, home of the hot nightclub Le Caves du Roy, frequented by millionaires, models, and royalty. Celebrities spotted here, including Mick Jagger and Jay-Z, can relax knowing that the club’s security team will keep out the paparazzi.

Monaco Mega-yacht cruisers head to the next noteworthy stop on the St. Tropez party schedule: Monaco. The quarter of Monte Carlo is dotted with the most luxurious hotels including Monte Carlo Bay, spas, casinos, and nightclubs, like Jimmy’z Monte Carlo. One of the principality’s premier clubs, Jimmy’z attracts a young and trendy crowd. Keep an eye out for Octopus, Microsoft co-founder

Paul Allen’s extravagant $200 million yacht, in Port de Monaco. This summer, recently married Prince Albert II will host the Monte Carlo Red Cross Gala Ball at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club (Karl Lagerfeld has attended in the past). The annual fundraiser, themed to the novel “To Catch a Thief,” gathers guests for a great time and an even greater cause.

Sardinia A-listers from around the world will dock their yachts for the weekend in Porto Cervo, Sardinia, east of Italy’s mainland. Five-star landmark Hotel Cala di Volpe, the chicest retreat on Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda, counts Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas and George Clooney among its guests. (Want to stay in the Presidential Suite? Be prepared to spend $21,000 a night.) A typical Sardinian evening for the elite begins with fine dining at the island’s outpost of Cipriani followed by a late night of dancing to the trendiest music at Billionaire, where you may spot Naomi

Campbell or Leonardo DiCaprio. Another Billionaire fan is Swizz Beatz, who held his bachelor party here before marrying Alicia Keys. Carry the festivities into the next day by watching the sun rise seaside—then repeat! Make a quick stop in Capri to visit the iconic Capri Palace, where the Beckhams, Mariah Carey, and Whitney Houston have all stayed. Are you a foodie? Don’t miss out on a meal at Don Alfonso 1890, a family-run restaurant that holds two Michelin stars.

TRAVEL

THE COOL MEDITERRANEAN SUMMER’S SIZZLING HOT SPOTS By Norah Bradford

here’s only one summer playground for the wealthiest and most influential. It’s called the Mediterranean. They traverse the blue waters in their mega-yachts to make appearances at many of the world-famous party ports from St. Tropez to Ibiza. And viewing those yachts is like a show in itself. Once a mere 100 feet, yachts now reach lengths of 300 feet and beyond (with price tags to match!). Here’s what’s happening on the Mediterranean this summer. ST. TROPEZ The third week in July builds to a crescendo where the Beau Monde and the fashionable set will make their first stop on the Côte d’Azur, for a jaunt in St. Tropez, where they can explore the decadence of Europe. Port de St. Tropez has been named as one of the top five most expensive places to dock a yacht in the world because the marina is comprised of only thirty yacht slips. (Tipping the port at least a thousand dollars a day is de rigueur.) First up is Le Club 55 (frequented by celebrities including Penelope Cruz and U2’s Bono) nestled beachfront and featuring a private pier. This makes it easy for yacht passengers to disembark and enjoy a world-renowned lunch. Once evening falls, head to Hotel Byblos, home of hot nightclub Le Caves du Roy, frequented by millionaires, models, and royalty. Look carefully and you’ll spot Mick Jagger and Jay-Z, both of whom will relax knowing that the club’s security team will keep out the paparazzi.

Le Club 55

MONACO On the first weekend in August mega-yacht cruisers will head to the next noteworthy stop: Monaco. The quarter of Monte Carlo is dotted with the most luxurious hotels including Monte Carlo Bay, spas, casinos, and nightclubs, like Jimmy’z Monte Carlo which attracts a young and trendy crowd. Keep an eye out for the Octopus, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen’s extravagant $200 million yacht, in Port de Monaco. Prince Albert II will host the Monte Carlo Red Cross Gala Ball at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club (Karl Lagerfeld has attended in the past). The annual fundraiser gathers guests for a great time and an even greater cause.

SARDINIA By the end of the second week in August A-Listers from around the world will dock their yachts for the weekend in Porto Cervo, Sardinia, east of Italy’s mainland. Five-star landmark Hotel Cala di Volpe, the chicest retreat on Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda. (Want to stay in the Presidential Suite? Be prepared to spend $21,000 a night.) A typical Sardinian evening for the elite begins with fine dining at the island’s outpost of Cipriani followed by a late night of dancing to the trendiest music at Billionaire, where you may spot Naomi Campbell or Leonardo DiCaprio. Another Billionaire fan is Swizz Beatz, who held his bachelor party here before marrying Alicia Keys. Carry the festivities into the next day by watching sunrise seaside—then repeat!

CAPRI Make a quick stop on the Isle of Capri to visit the iconic Capri Palace, where the Beckhams and Mariah Carey have stayed. Are you a foodie? Don’t miss out on a meal at Don Alfonso 1890, a family-run restaurant that holds two Michelin stars.

IBIZA By the third weekend of August—yachters like Sean “Diddy” Combs locate on one of the Balearic Islands just south of Spain. One of the most exclusive destinations in the world, Ibiza’s Port Adriano recently enlarged the marina to make room for mega-yachts. Cas Gasí Hotel, the isle’s best-kept secret, treats its celebrity clients (Kate Moss and Robert De Niro among them) to the most beautiful views of the island. Ibiza is known for its nightlife, and regulars like Madonna and Jade Jagger often spend evenings dancing on tables at sexy cocktail lounge Aura. This weekend the A-list crowd will be mingling on the hottest yachts, including billionaire Andrey Melnichenko’s mega-yacht A, which cost more than $300 million to build. Though the party season in the Mediterranean may end here, yacht passengers don’t stop partying. The mega-yachts will migrate to the Caribbean for the winter, before returning once again the following year for more summer fun in the Mediterranean. • JUNE/JULY 2018 | NEW YORK LIFESTYLES MAGAZINE | 57

Previously co-owned by ballet legend Mikhail Baryshnikov and Nobel Prize winner for poetry Joseph Brodsky, this elegant eatery is – aside from its authentic Russian dishes – known for its 26 flavored vodkas prepared in-house. Delectable appetizers include Beluga and Osetra caviar, but it is its signature entrées that have put Russian Samovar on the culinary map.

La Goulue This French Bistro classic from Antoine Camin and Craig Pogson, although dating back to the early 1970s, provided the stage not just for society but also for 1980s movie Fatal Attraction, La Goulue recently opened in a new Upper East Side location. Alongside the bistro classics which are thoughtfully executed is a wine philosophy – Craig Pogson’s wine list for La Goulue is driven by the ideas of wines whose vintages drink well today and those which combine pedigree and price. www.lagouluerestaurant.com
