Executive Chef Massimo Sola grew up surrounded by the flavors and cooking style of the Italian/ French Provençal cuisine. Just like MAMO Le Michelangelo, MAMO New York attracts a wide array of celebrities, including Rhianna, Magic Johnson, Alexander Wang, Diane Kruger, Samuel L. Jackson, Gigi Hadid, Beyonce and Jay Z. www.mamonyc.com

Cities for ’17: TEN MUST VISIT DESTINATION CITIES FOR 2017 By Norah Bradford

Whilst the holiday season is upon us and we are busy juggling plans for visiting family and travelling to see in the New Year it will be soon time to start considering ideas for where to go in 2017. Here are 10 destinations – both above and below the radar you should have on your list – after all, if not now, then when?

ANTARCTICA Home to the South Pole, penguins instead of polar bears are probably the closest alternative to an out-of-this world experience on planet Earth in terms of its remoteness. Silversea offers the opportunity to visit this otherworldly place through its fleet of explorer ships – which balance the 5-Star service experience for which Silversea is well known with the toughness and practicality to safely get explorers to their destination and then home safe and sound again across Drake’s Passage. 2017 is the 95th anniversary of the passing of Sir Ernest Shackleton who led three British expeditions. www.silversea.com

ST. BARTH’S

Jetset Guide to the Carribean South of France Experience By Norah Bradford

T

he island of Saint Barthelemy or “St. Barths” as it is near-universally is the jewel in the French Caribbean crown. When the islands were first colonized St. Barths was not seen as a winner – islands such as Trinidad, Barbados and Antigua were key for commerce and sugar and spice production. However, as the economies of the islands migrated towards an emphasis on tourism, given the idyllic environment St. Barths has carved out a niche as a social epicenter and the North American outpost for fans of the South of France culture. Every New Year’s Eve it is reckoned some 40% of the world’s Super Yachts congregate to witness the fireworks and party ahead of the New Year’s Day race known as the St. Barths Bucket. Between November and April here is a short guide as to where to eat, sleep and play; Cheval Blanc St. Barth Isle de France

Cheval Blanc St-Barth Isle de France One of the biggest changes on the island in recent years is the change in ownership of the Hotel Isle de France by LVMH who have reopened the property as its third hotel alongside its sisters in Courcheval, France and the Maldives. Now renamed the Cheval Blanc the property is even more luxurious in nature. Try the Lobster Fricasse Flambe at al-fresco restaurant La Case de L’Isle. Eden Rock

Eden Rock Eden Rock was the first hotel to be built on the island of St. Barth. Constructed in 1950, famous Caribbean aviator and adventurer, Remy de Haenen used the hotel as a destination for his well-known friends such as the Rockefellers, Howard Hughes and Greta Garbo. After a few decades of gentle neglect, Eden Rock was acquired by David and Jane Matthews in 1995. Eden Rock possesses some of the most extravagant villas on the island. From the Rockstar villa that has a recording studio as well as two separate cabins. The villa has often been described as “a hundred million dollar yacht on land” at an enormous 16,000-square-feet. Other villas include the Nina with its own private art gallery and the two floored Orchid beach house with a rooftop terrace providing one of a kind view of the bay. All villas are private and include their own pool or spa pool, kitchen and plenty of space for relaxation. Guests who may not need room to house twelve people can choose from one of the hotel’s eight different suites. At Eden Rock, luxury is provided in all shapes and sizes.

ZEN IN THE CITY

THE SHANGRI-LA TORONTO By Hillary Latos

C

entrally located in downtown Toronto, this beautiful and gleaming 5-Star hotel has a distinctly East meets West Asian feel with a luxurious sense of zen and tranquility to the heart of the city. Since its opening in 2012, the Shangri-La is considered to be one of the best hotels in Toronto from the sumptuous décor to the services encapsulated by Asian hospitality. Its commitment to providing guests with distinctive Asian standards of hospitality and service from caring people remains a major point of differentiation from its peers and the very cornerstone of its reputation as a world-class hotel group. Zen like paradise begins the moment you enter your room where Toronto’s striking cityscape unfolds before you like a feast for your eyes. Escape the bustle of the city in your spacious suite as you recline in a plush sofa or a soak in tub with floor to ceiling windows as you gaze upon the gleaming metropolis. The luxuriously appointed rooms are generously sized at 630 square feet with a separate

bedroom and living room and walk in closet giving a residential feel with skyscraper views. The elegantly chic Asian inspired décor and furnishings are awash in a soothing palette of neutral colors accented with rich wood millwork that are designed with every comfort in mind. While the sprawling all marble bathrooms are bathed in natural light with a separate glass enclosed shower and deep soaking tub giving a modern and airy feel. The signature restaurant, BOSK, is headed by Chef Damon Campbell who offers tantalizing Asian inspired yet distinctly Canadian modern cuisine with seasonal farm to table ingredients. One of the signature items is the chef’s daily infused butter which is a delicious way to tantalize the tastebuds. For breakfast there are plenty of options that cater to its international clientele. Start the day with one of the heart healthy options such as the Wellness egg white frittata with sautéed vegetables or try the Oriental option with congee and

its multi-million dollar expansion. Visitors to The Crane can book one of two different types of accommodations: 1887 Resort Apartments, housed in the original historic hotel, or one of the property’s new suites.

1887 Resort Apartments The Crane’s original historic hotel is comprised of 18 charming, spacious oceanfront guestrooms and suites with 12-foot ceilings, hardwood floors, exquisite antique furniture, fully equipped kitchens and spectacular views of the rugged southeastern coastline. The rooms in this part of The Crane are steeped in the rich history of Barbados, with several featuring coral stone walls that are over 200 years old. Many of the rooms in the historic hotel also feature lavish mahogany four-poster king size beds, ceiling fans, or air-conditioning; while suites offer a semi-private sitting area and fold-out couches to sleep additional guests.

Residences at The Crane The exquisite suites at The Crane, the first of which opened in the year 2001, offer resort guests a new standard of upscale vacation accommodations.

T

he Crane, set on forty acres of oceanfront land in the parish of St. Philip, on Barbados’ southeast coast, is the island’s oldest vacation resort. Conveniently located a mere six minutes east of Grantley Adams International Airport, the resort boasts a spectacular natural setting on a cliff overlooking the renowned Crane Beach, yet offers easy access to the rest of the island. Today, The Crane is comprised of the original historic hotel building, built in the late 1700’s and expanded in 1887 alongside a new, all-suite development. Since the mid-18th century, Southeastern Barbados was frequented by the island’s plantation owners and prosperous merchants. and bathing in the waters recognized for their recuperative powers. The area’s main building was a mansion known as Marine Villa, which today exists almost in its original state and forms the east section of The Crane. The style of its windows and casements suggests it was built about 1790. In 1886, civil engineer Donald Simpson purchased Marine Villa and conceived of enlarging the house and opening it as a hotel. Simpson’s hotel venture was encouraged by development of the railway in 1881 to Sunbury, St. Philip from Bridgetown. Simpson completed the first addition to Marine Villa with the addition of four coral stone apartments that comprise the south wing of the hotel. In 1988 the current owner of The Crane, Canadian Paul Doyle, bought the resort and has overseen

By marrying nineteenth century grandeur and furnishings with twenty-first century luxuries, conveniences, and amenities, The Crane has created a level of exclusive resort living while retaining the grace and elegance of its historic past. Suites at The Crane boast the finest in furniture and finishes, including hand-crafted Barbadian mahogany furniture, objects d’art, oriental carpets and traditionally high four-poster king size beds. The setting, however, provides the true feel of the resort: old-world coral stone walls, hardwood floors, 10 foot high timber tray ceilings, floor-toceiling marble bathrooms and amazing views of The Crane’s crystal clear, turquoise waters. Each full suite also features bay windows with oiled cedar shutters, spa shower with multiple shower heads, jacuzzi bath, cable TV, DVD player and VCR; double door fridge with in-door icemaker, dishwasher, washer and dryer, and cen-

tral air-conditioning from discretely hidden ducts. The world-renowned swimming pool at The Crane remains the centrepiece of this luxury resort, being set at the top of a cliff and framed by a row of classic Doric columns, overlooking the naturally spectacular Crane Beach. Guests of The Crane can also enjoy their own private pools; either a tower plunge pool or ground floor pool of up to 28 ft. in length, many possess an infinity edge, featuring breathtaking ocean views. Recently completed in winter 2007, The Crane opened the much-anticipated element of the expansion project -- the pool complex. The new pool complex encompasses four individual pools with cascading waterfalls, meandering landscaping, soft lighting and alfresco hot tub. L’Azure Restaurant at The Crane serves a range of classic and Caribbean delicacies. Best known for its creations using fresh seafood, L’Azure has achieved several distinctions for fine cuisine.

Sunset Towers, West Hollywood

By Norah Bradford

No Sign of Nightfall:

SUNSET HOTEL Celebrates its Tenth Anniversary

L

ocated on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood with commanding views of Los Angeles is the Sunset Tower Hotel, celebrating the tenth anniversary and is one of the hottest places to stay, see and be seen. Originally constructed during prohibition in the 1930s, the Hotel was one of many which took advantage of the nightlife opportunities which being located in West Hollywood. Sunset Tower played host to the A-listers of the 1930s and 1940s including Howard Hughes, John Wayne, Billie Burke, Marilyn Monroe, Errol Flynn, Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra to name a few. However, as times changed the Sunset Tower fortunes waned along with the locale, and even the name change to the Argyle did little for its prospects. Fast forward to the Milennium and enter hotelier and restauranteur Jeff Klein. After launching the City Club and attracting chef Daniel Bouloud with his DB Bistro Moderne, Klein received numerous accolades for the attention to service and quality

104 • Resident • March 2016

of the concept. This success made him a natural to bring the Sunset Tower into the 21st Century. Whilst the original building was cutting edge, for example having electrical outlets in the bathrooms, the benchmark today was higher still. Klein and his team sought to renovate and modernize whilst keeping the classical features of the hotel intact. The object of the restoration, which many guests have attested to, is the sense of timelessness that has been created. The look and feel of Sunset Tower is one which you could imagine guests from the past feeling at ease with not to mention future generations of visitors. The dining arrangements focus on two distinct options, the Tower Bar and the Terrace. The Tower Bar is very grown-up with walnut paneling, a fireplace and classic bar – located in what was formerly the room of a gangster at the Tower, Bugsy Siegel. Another attraction of the Tower Bar is Maitre’D Dimitri Dimitrov, reputedly the inspiration for the central character of Wes Anderson’s recent hit

movie The Grand Budapest Hotel. The Terrace is adjacent to the Tower Bar and offers a more casual poolside dining experience against the backdrop of views of the Los Angeles skyline. Try the signature Hot Dog during a summertime visit. Most of us will recognize the Terrace from its role in The Player where Tim Robbins is pitched a movie idea but for the Awards circuit it is the venue par-excellence to party. If these walls could talk, The Terrace has played host to someof LA’s most famous bashe such as the CAA annual Golden Globes post party and the Vanity Fair Oscars Party. However, no matter the event the Sunset Tower remains the place to be. ike the literary character Alice, a visit to London offers many unique experiences and a few gastronomic rabbit holes into which—lacking good advice and information—a visitor can fall. On your 2016 visit to this iconic city, place these three dining opportunities at the top of your list and depart with a smile to rival that of the invisible Cheshire Cat.

Mirror Room at Rosewood, london An architectural wonderland in its own right, the recently opened Rosewood Hotel sits in High Holborn, at the intersection between the legal, media, and original financial districts of London. The interior décor offers the visitor a high-end sense of wonderment not seen since the millennium opening of the Sanderson Hotel or the refurbished Savoy. The Mirror Room possesses both exquisite décor and ambience which keep pace with the style, quality, and excellence of the work of Executive Chef Amandine Chaignot and her staff. The new menu, “Citrus and Winter Root,” which offers a rustic interpretation of English and French cuisine, has been designed to awaken the senses with an array of fresh and intriguing seasonal root vegetables, citrus fruits, and fresh herbs, presented with a flourish that Heston Blumenthal, the George V in Paris, and Il Bulli stalwarts would appreciate. WHAT’S HOT

Hong Kong’s Mandarin Oriental Oriental, Hong Kong has mastered the fine details of service, which in its terms aims to “delight our guests”. For example, a business traveler in a rush who leaves his laptop and cables strewn over a desk in his suite will come back to find each cable wrapped with a velcro tie, a screen-cleaning cloth left to use as necessary. The hotel has both a barber’s shop, offering male guests classic barber services, and a wide range of luxury products. In addition, there is the salon, which is located on the top floor of the hotel alongside the spa, where your beauty needs are attended to next to panoramic views of the harbor. Dining options include the flagship Man Wah Cantonese restaurant, which is located on the top floor of the hotel and offers an array of delicacies for both lunch and dinner. The breakfast buffet is a genuine treat, encompassing both East and West dining traditions. It sets guests up for their days in this bustling city. The Chinnery adopts the look and feel of a London gentleman’s club and offers a classic menu, while the Mandarin Cake Shop is worth visiting simply for the artistry of the chefs in their displays of confectionery. Other dining options include the Pierre, which offers French cuisine, the Mandarin Grill + Bar, which offers modern European cuisine, and the unique Krug Room, which serves progressive gastronomy. The Krug Room is hidden near the kitchen and is the only one of its kind in the world—surely the place for a visiting foodie’s ultimate reservation.

orinthia Hotel London is a luxury hotel with a unique location near the River Thames, the iconic structures of British government and 10 Downing Street, Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery, and a brisk stroll from the chic boutiques and dining of St. James’s and Mayfair. The Corinthia London’s history has an interesting historical pedigree. The establishment opened in the late 19th century with its brochure advertising virtues that would not be lost on the modern visitor. “That the hotel’s location . . . recommends it to ladies and families visiting the West End during the Season;

to travelers from Paris and the Continent, arriving from Dover and Folkestone at the Charing Cross Terminus; to Officers and others attending the levees at St James; to Ladies going to the Drawing Rooms, State Balls, and Concerts at Buckingham Palace; and to colonial and American visitors unused to the great world of London.” During the First and Second World Wars the hotel’s location led it to be requisitioned by the Government in order to provide extra space for administrating the conflicts. Room 474 was the first headquarters for SOE, what today is part of the Secret Intelligence Service of James Bond fame.

After the building was sold in the mid 2000s, an extensive refurbishment took its history full circle: back to its roots as a luxury destination in the heart of London. The hotel today boasts a number of rooms, suites, and penthouses all with Hypnos beds, Nespresso machines, and a Loewe television. Essential for recovery after a long trek throughout the city is the hotel’s beauty salon by Daniel Galvin and an extensive multi-floor spa, ESPA Life at Corinthia. Power Dining Los Angeles Style

I

By Norah Bradford

f you were to visit Los Angeles for 24 hours and wanted to enjoy the gastronomic trilogy, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner at iconic venues where should you go ? Although there are many choices depending on your propensity for star-watching or dining under the stars themselves. Here are three go-to dining experiences to have the contact numbers for should you want to power dine in LA; Brunch at Culina, Modern Italian The Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills has long been regarded as among the best hotels in Los Angeles. With Culina, Modern Italian it now has its perfect match in a busy dining field. Set in a very contemporary setting Culina, Modern Italian re-interprets the Italian cuisine under Chef Denis Dello Stritto, who grew up in a farming environment north of Naples in Italy. The brunch/lunch dining menu strongly emphasizes wellness options and as such makes our recommendation to start your dining triathalon. Try from the revised menu the Grilled Escarole, Broccoli e Salsiccia pasta or the vegan Ortolana pizza to name but three delicious options. culinarestaurant.com Lunch at The Ivy The Ivy in Los Angeles is like dining at the country cottage belonging to your hip, super-star, gourmand relative at the centre of the entertainment

universe. Brunch lunch dining recommendations include the Ivy Cobb Salad (combining baby lettuce, beets, avocado, tomato, organic eggs, neuske’s bacon, roasted turkey breast and point reyes bluc cheese), Ricky’s Fried Chicken (served with grilled corn, sautéed spinach and fresh mango chutney) – in fact everything on the menu tastes great – after all, what meal would you not appreciate made by your favourite relative… heivyrestaurants.com Dinner at Craig’s Comedian Don Rickles made the quip that “this place is never gonna make it !” while Jeff Ross describes Craig’s quite effectively as “the olive garden for celebrities”. Some restaurants transcend being a place to dine and become a place to simply be – Craig’s is one of them. One of the aims of anyone seeking to ‘make it’ in LA is to secure a table in the centre of Craig’s. In fact, one can probably take a seating location at Craig’s as a barometer reading of where a celebrity is at – rising (table at the back), current hit (front and centre), over-the-hype – booth of to one side. The dinner menu ranges from Vegan options to the Grill to seafood, pasta and pizza. Try a Vegan Sausage Pizza (san marzano tomato sauce, vegan sausage, vegan cheese) or a 14oz prime New York Steak. Like Hollywood, Craig’s has something to please everyone, and of course people watching. craigs.la

Noble Houses

Three Delightful Hong Kong Dining Destinations

P

By Norah Bradford

ierce Brosnan swash-buckled his way through 1960s Hong Kong social and corporate politics in The TV mini-series of James Clavell’s best selling novel, Noble House a quarter of a century ago. Fast forward to 2016 and here are three of the best dining experiences to make you feel like a modern-day Taipan.

Man Wah Sample contemporary Cantonese cuisine while enjoying panoramic views of the Harbor and City from the 25th floor of the Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong. The sumptuous interior is composed of ceiling lamps resembling a plethora of birdcages and walls adorned with hand paintings on silks. Chef Chi-Kwong Hung offers signature dishes including steamed fillet of spotted garoupa with crispy ginger, crabmeat and egg alongside an extensive dim sum menu. Rated four stars by Forbes Travel, Man Wah offers both lunch and dinner service. Man Wah is located in the Mandarin Oriental, hotel Hong Kong – the first Mandarin in the world and still the benchmark for luxury accommodation and service. The hotel is centrally located and boasts a range of dining and accommodation options for the Asian travel fan. mandarinoriental.com/hongkong/fine-dining/man-wah Afternoon tea at the Peninsula Hotel Held in the Lobby of this colonially-inspired architectural masterpiece is the quintessential afternoon tea experience. The Peninsula Hotel has for over 85 years served tea daily amidst the sumptuous seating and elegant lobby where people can meet and participate in a revered social tradition whilst listening to the soothing sounds of the Lobby Strings. Afternoon tea in the lobby includes a selection of finger sandwiches and savouries, homemade afternoon tea pastries, freshly baked raisin scones with accompanying clotted cream and jam in addition to a wide choice of teas from the Peninsula Tea Collection. Dress code is smart casual and seating is conducted on a first come-first served basis. hongkong.peninsula.com/en/fine-dining/the-lobby-afternoon-tea

China Tang A taste of the past delivered in a contemporary fashion. Like “bringing coals to Newcastle” Sir David Tang has brought to Hong Kong his vision originally executed at the Dorchester Hotel in London. China Tang aims to offer the best Chinese food in sumptuous surroundings. Signature dishes include the China Tang barbequed Pork, steamed Shanghai ‘Xiao Long Bao’ and marinated sea cucumber with Sichuan Peppercorn. chinatang.hk

The Silver MuSe TakeS Shape An Olympian Development in Luxury Cruising

A

By Norah Bradford

Muse is defined in the dictionary as one of the nine goddesses of the arts born of Zeus and Mnemosyne. The recent keel laying ceremony for the ninth Silversea luxury cruise vessel, the Silver Muse aims to set a new benchmark in luxury cruising.

Silversea is well known for its fleet of eight vessels, five ships carrying an exclusively small number of passengers around the world (The Silver Cloud, Wind, Shadow, Whisper and Spirit) in addition to three specialist expedition ships (The Silver Galapagos, Explorer and Discoverer), which mount excursions to the Arctic, Antarctica, Micronesia and more challenging destinations such as the Galapagos islands. The Silver Muse is an organic evolution of the most recent ship of the fleet, the Silver Spirit. Whilst offering the luxury boutique feel the Silver Muse has a capacity for near 600 passengers with many more suite accommodations than earlier vessels. Classic, Superior and Deluxe Veranda Suites offer spacious accommodations and floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening onto a private veranda offering a combined living space of 450 sq. ft. All of the veranda suites offer luxurious bathrooms and they enjoy the same Pratesi bed linens, Etro Bathrobes and Bulgari bath amenities. The Silver Suites offers larger bedroom configurations nearly twice to three times larger 94 | 25A www.25Amagazine.com

than the Veranda Suites bedrooms. The Grand Suite offers the most luxe configuration with a veranda which wraps around two sides of the suite which is ideally built for entertaining. Cruise cognoscenti will of course be seeking the Owner’s Suite which combines the luxury of the Grand Suite but sacrifices the scale of veranda for a central position on the Silver Muse – ideal should the greek god of the sea, Poseidon seek to disturb your voyage. In terms of dining options the Silver Muse retains some of the familiar elements with La Terraza though adds an Asian dining experience called Kabuki, the Atlantide bar & grill offering meat and seafood. Hot Rocks and the Regina Margherita add more casual, though distinctive dining options, the latter being an all-day traditional pizza oven. Rounding out the dining options will be La Grande Dame – a Relais & Chateau accredited restaurant offering a unique at-sea dining experience. The maiden voyage for the Silver Muse will depart April 10th, 2017 from Monaco in the Mediterranean, meanwhile January 6th 2017 sees the departure of a 116-day world cruise with the Silver Whisper.

Checking In at Corinthia Hotel London By Norah Bradford

he Corinthia Hotel London is a luxury hotel nestled between the River Thames, the iconic structures of the British government, and 10 Downing Street. It’s a mere stroll to the art exhibitions at the National Gallery and fabulous dining near St. James and Mayfair. Corinthia Hotel London has an interesting historical pedigree. The establishment opened in the late-19th century with its brochure advertising its virtues which would not be lost on the modern visitor: “That the hotel’s location is particularly recommended to ladies and families visiting the West End during the Season; to traveler’s from Paris and the Continent, arriving from Dover and Folkestone at the Charing Cross

Terminus; to Officers and others attending the levees at St James; to Ladies going to the Drawing Rooms, State Balls, and Concerts at Buckingham Palace; and to colonial and American visitors unused to the great world of London.”

During the Second World War, the hotel’s location led it to be requisitioned by the British government to provide extra space for administrating the conflicts. Room 474 was the first headquarters of Winston Churchill’s secret army known as Special Operations Executive (SOE), what today is part of the Secret Intelligence Service of James Bond fame. After the building had been sold in the mid2000s, an extensive refurbishment took its history full circle back to its roots as a luxury

the Mirage, Treasure Island, and the Bellagio.

he Wynn Las Vegas, a sixty four acre resort in Las Vegas, is known for luxury and distinctiveness in all the small details that make guests’ stays memorable. It is among the world’s most luxurious resorts, built on the site of the Desert Inn (where Liberace, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Cher, Barry Manilow and many other major stars of the last half century performed), this 2.7 billion dollar resort was constructed next to the Palazzo and the Venetian Hotel. The Wynn hotel’s fortytwo floors contain an astounding two thousand seven hundred sixteen rooms. The Wynn and adjacent Wynn Resort Encore combined have a total of 4,750 rooms.

Renowned publications and travel industry insiders have been quick to take note of everything the Wynn and the Encore have to offer. Wynn and Encore hold more Forbes Travel Guide Five Star awards than any other independent hotel company in the world today. The Tower Suites at both Wynn and Encore, and The Spas at Wynn and Encore received the Forbes Five-Star Award.

Industry insider Steve Wynn built both the Wynn and the Wynn Encore and played a key role in the 1990s resurgence of the Las Vegas Strip. His companies refurbished or built many of the most celebrated resorts in Las Vegas, including the Golden Nugget, 36 | OUR CITY, YOUR LIFE | JULY 2016

Wynn offers an array of incredible dining options. Whether you’re looking for fine dining, bars and lounges, casual dining, or even vegan dining, Wynn offers something amazing for everyone. Nine fine dining restaurants, nine casual dining restaurants, plus eleven bars and lounges provide a tasty variety of choices. Amongst those, Wing Lei, the haute Chinese restaurant at the Wynn Las Vegas, is the only Chinese restaurant in North America to have ever received the distinction of a Michelin star.

With its century-old pomegranate trees, and two private rooms, Wing Lei, embodies luxury and elegance. Designer Roger Thomas has created a restaurant interior with a unique ambience that exquisitely complements executive chef Xian Ming Yu’s creations. Known as one of Las Vegas’s most upscale and innovative restaurants, Wing Lei is a must-visit location for any visitor to Vegas and especially for hard-core foodies. Two tasting menus are available at Wing Lei, and a Peking duck dinner is also available. Executive chef Ming Yu creates cuisine that is at once surprising and familiar, like dinner entrée wok-fried duck in black bean sauce. Alaskan King Crab Salad is another crowd-pleaser: with misoyuzu dressing, mango, and avocado, it’s a gastronomic experience guests won’t soon forget. Other menu gems include Sichuan chili prawns, walnut prawns, wok-tossed scallops and wok-fried Maine lobster. Wing Lei’s sweet & sour pork, Mapo tofu, Cantonese chow mein, hand-pulled wok-tossed noodles, and Yang Chow fried rice are delicious as well. The shows offered at Wynn and Encore are legendary. Le Rêve – The Dream, voted Best Production Show in Las Vegas by the Southern Nevada Hotel Concierge Association for no less than six years in a row, will mesmerize you with its unique romantic take on water ballet. Le Rêve – The Dream is among the most exciting shows in Las Vegas. Divers, acrobats, ballroom dancers, and synchronized swimmers perform an awe-inspiring piece in a 1.1 million gallon pool. The unique venue design means that every seat in the house has a complete view of the waters, and the show combines elements of romance, action, and fantasy to bring guests an experience unlike any other. Inspired by a 1932 painting of the same name by Pablo Picasso, Le Rêve is a colorful and abstract performance created by former Cirque du Soleil producer Franco Dragone. Synchronized swimmers glide through the water in beautiful patterns as aerialists soar through the air. Massive nets rise out of the water and performers take picture-perfect dives from them into the pool below. High divers perform breathtaking in-air acrobatic sequences as they descent towards the water. Behind the scenes, sixteen scuba divers participate in each performance, using fourteen air tanks and one thousand one hundred and twenty cubic feet of compressed air. Safety is paramount- every member of the cast is scuba certified. The ring of digital screens that are suspended from the ceiling project effects like falling rain and flying birds. With no seat more than twelve rows away from the stage, every guest is sure to have an unforgettable experience at Le Rêve - The Dream. The Lake of Dreams features nine different mesmerizing shows. Wynn and Encore also both offer unforgettable nightlife

experiences. Nightlife venues XS, Surrender, Intrigue and Encore Beach Club, are some of Las Vegas’ most celebrated places to party. World-renowned DJs like David Guetta and Avicii spin frequently there, enthralling club guests. Guests have included Olympian Michael Phelps, singer Ne-Yo, Jenny McCarthy, and even Britain’s Prince Harry. The shops, spas, salons, fitness centers, pools, and golf facilities at Wynn and Encore are extraordinary. With many distinctive shops, the Esplanades at Wynn and Encore put the world’s most renowned designers within convenient reach. AN OLYMPIAN DEVELOPMENT IN LUXURY CRUISING: THE SILVER MUSE TAKES SHAPE By Norah Bradford A Muse is defined in the dictionary as one of the nine goddesses of the arts born of Zeus and Mnemosyne. Classic, Superior and Deluxe Veranda Suites offer spacious accommodations and floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening onto a private veranda offering a combined living space of 450 sq. ft. All of the veranda suites offer luxurious bathrooms and they enjoy the same Pratesi bed linens, Etro Bathrobes and Bulgari bath amenities. three times larger than the Veranda Suites bedrooms. History meets Luxury Barbados style at The Crane BY NORAH BRAD FORD

The Crane, set on forty acres of oceanfront land in the parish of St.

S

ince the mid-18th century, Southeastern Barbados was frequented by the island’s plantation owners and prosperous merchants. They were attracted by the cool breezes, stimulating climate and bathing in the waters recognized for their recuperative powers. In 1988 the current owner of The Crane, Canadian Paul Doyle, bought the resort and has overseen its multi-million dollar expansion. Visitors to The Crane can book one of two different types of accommodations: 1887 Resort Apartments, housed in the original historic hotel, or one of the property’s new suites. 60 | GLOBAL VISION MAGA ZINE

By marrying nineteenth century grandeur and furnishings with twenty-first century luxuries, conveniences, and amenities, The Crane has created a level of exclusive resort living while retaining the grace and elegance of its historic past.

GLOBAL PLACE S | HOT EL S

Suites at The Crane boast the finest in furniture and finishes, including hand-crafted Barbadian mahogany furniture, objects d’art, oriental carpets and traditionally high four-poster king size beds. The setting, however, provides the true feel of the resort: old-world coral stone walls, hardwood floors, 10 foot high timber tray ceilings, floor-to-ceiling marble bathrooms and amazing views of The Crane’s crystal clear, turquoise waters. Each full suite also features bay windows with oiled cedar shutters, spa shower with multiple shower heads, jacuzzi bath, cable TV, DVD player and VCR; double door fridge with in-door icemaker, dishwasher, washer and dryer, and central air-conditioning from discretely hidden ducts.

T

he world-renowned swimming pool at The Crane remains the centrepiece of this luxury resort, being set at the top of a cliff and framed by a row of classic Doric columns, overlooking the naturally spectacular Crane Beach. Guests of The Crane can also enjoy their own private pools; either a tower plunge pool or ground floor pool of up to 28 ft. in length, many possess an infinity edge, featuring breathtaking ocean views.
