Says the Fort Lee Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Director, Jeffrey Ware. Under the leadership of Mr. Ware and the Chamber’s President, Vanda Ondrus, the FLRCC provides plenty of opportunities for small business owners and service professionals to share their stories through networking events, spotlighting members through marketing, making introductions, and facilitating collaborations. The Chamber can also help members by providing business guidance, mentoring and by facilitating conversations with local officials.

"Every business, regardless of its size or background, has a unique story to tell,” says Ondrus echoing the sentiment. “Our mission is to provide members with the platform and support they need to thrive and to contribute to the vibrancy of Fort Lee."

The Fort Lee Regional Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit organization founded in 1950 dedicated to advancing the economic, civic, and cultural welfare in the communities of Cliffside Park, Edgewater, Englewood Cliffs, Fort Lee, Leonia, Palisades Park, and Ridgefield. But members come from outside this region, as well.

“I joined the Chamber in 2014,” Ware said, “as a representative of the local Little League youth baseball and softball programs, as a way to strengthen the bonds between community, local business and public officials. At first, it was a challenge.” But then he was given a piece of simple advice that he says he should have already known, “Get involved.” Mr. Ware started attending every event he could make. He volunteered to come early and help with registrations and check in attendees to get to know names and faces, and to make starting conversations easier. Eventually, he joined Chamber committees to help plan events and initiatives.

“These were great ways to show off my commitment to the community and what I could do,” he recalls.

It is what he now tells other members looking to get the most out of belonging to the Chamber. People want to do business with people with a proven track record, someone they feel comfortable with and who they trust, he explains. “What better way to demonstrate all these things than by working together with other members on a program or event.”

“No one can tell your story better than you.’”
“That’s what I always tell new and prospective members,”
Jeffrey Ware Executive Director

Provide mentorship and support to women owners

Host monthly networking events.

As the founder of Homes by Vanda and a Realtor at Keller Williams City Views Realty, Ms. Ondrus has carved her niche by expertly serving clients from multicultural backgrounds. A native of Slovakia, she is fluent in English, Slovak, Czech, and Polish. She carries over the same philosophy when guiding members of the Chamber.

“This is one of my passion projects and it’s how I became involved with the chamber,” says Ondrus of the Women’s Networking, where she provides mentorship and support to entrepreneurial women, helping them navigate the complex landscape of business growth. She hopes this dedication to empowering women inspires others to break barriers and forge their own paths. A strong sense of togetherness is vital for businesses to thrive, and the FLRCC excels at fostering a strong bond among its members and the community.

“I strongly believe that one of the cornerstones of the Fort Lee Regional Chamber of Commerce's ethos is its unwavering commitment to inclusivity,” Ondrus explains.

“It’s hard not to believe – in a place like Fort Lee and Northern New Jersey – that the success of a community and a business is deeply intertwined with its diversity,” adds Ware. “The examples are all around us.” Both leaders note their efforts to include businesses from various backgrounds have created a vibrant and dynamic business environment.

The Chamber also actively promotes its members' businesses through various channels, including its website, social media platforms, newsletters, and through sponsorship of community events.

“We understand that visibility is crucial for any business's success,” Ondrus points out. “From traditional advertising channels to modern platforms, the Chamber is willing to do what it takes for members.”

She notes that the inclusion of the podcast series featuring member businesses has garnered significant attention.

"We're not just building connections; we're telling stories,” Ondrus emphasizes.

And Ondrus knows the power of podcasts and collaboration. Her own podcast, Mortgage Minute is a partnership with a fellow member. Ondrus has also recorded at One of One Production Studios, another member. Ondrus has participated in or facilitated collaborations with local attorneys, banks, home designers, web designers, photographers, florists, and restaurants.

Ms. Ondrus is not alone in relying on collaboration to grow her business. She recalls a standout collaboration that involved a health-conscious restaurant teaming up with local gyms to drive customers to each other's business and create their own micro-community focused on health and wellness.

“They leveraged each other's strengths and resources and not only enhanced their businesses but also provided the community with an inspiration,” she beams when describing the partnership. “This collaboration not only boosted their bottom lines but also added to the dynamic nature of Fort Lee's social and economic landscape.”

“We offer spaces for business owners to connect, share ideas, and explore potential partnerships. Our aim is to create an environment where small businesses and professionals can thrive together,” Ware sums up. “And those are the stories everyone wants to hear.”

Learn about the activities of the Korean American Business Association

The Korean American Businessmen's Association of New York (KABA) is a CEO CLUB, trade association, and the New York Chapter of World Octa, the oldest organization of Korean American business owners in New York City, dating back to the founding of the Broadway Merchants Prosperity Association in 1978 by its first president, Young Chul Kim, to its current president, Jung Hak Yoo.

In 1994, New York City Mayor Giuliani named the 32nd Street and Broadway area developed by Kyung Hyeon as Korea Way, laying the foundation for the creation of K-Town, today's food district. Kyung Hyeon also founded and operated Broadway National Bank (BNB Bank) as a promoter, laying the foundation for Korean financial institutions to converge on Broadway in Manhattan and grow into a vibrant financial district, and established the Manhattan Korean School in 1981 to ensure that the children of its members and their compatriots do not forget their native language and Korean culture.

As one of the most prominent economic organizations in the New York Korean community, Kyung Hyeon has produced talented people who are needed to run the Korean community, including many chairmen and vice-chairmen of the New York Korean American Association and the Democracy and Peace Advisory Council. In 2003, Kyung Hyeon started the Next Generation Trade School in New York for the first time, and it is held every August.

In addition to the golf tournament for the Manhattan Korean School Educational Scholarship Fund in June, the Next Generation Trade School in August, overseas branching business support, global employment support project, and K-Biz Expo export exhibition in September, and businessmen's night in December.

The current president, Yoo Jung-hak, who is also running for senior vice president, said, "I will focus on promoting strong friendship among members so that we can cooperate and mutually benefit from each other through integration and win-win." He said that he will work to hold an export consultation exhibition every fall in cooperation with Octa Headquarters, KOTRA, AT Agriculture and Fisheries Distribution Corporation, and trade associations, and that he will continue to support the Manhattan Korean School and the Next Generation Trade School, which are affiliated with the association, to further establish themselves. He also announced his commitment to promote the establishment of a trade center, a long-standing project of the

The "2023 North America East Integrated Next Generation Global Entrepreneurship and Trade School," organized by the World Korean Trade Association (World Octa) to foster entrepreneurs who will expand the economic territory of the Korean people in the 21st century, concluded with a closing ceremony on June 6 (local time).

For two days and three nights, 110 next-generation entrepreneurs from 13 World Octa chapters in New York, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C., as well as Toronto and Montreal, Canada, shared their entrepreneurial concerns and networked through various programs including special lectures and projects.

Upon completion of the program, they received their

"With this training, you will have the opportunity to utilize the global network to start your own business," said Jung Hak Yoo, President of the New York Chapter of World Octa, in his closing remarks at the closing ceremony at Columbia University's Faculty House.

The closing ceremony was attended by New York Chapter President Yoo Jung-hak and Senior Vice President Kim Ji-young, New Jersey Chapter President Hwang Sun-young and Senior Vice President Vivian Lee, Canada Regional Vice President Hwang Sun-yang, Montreal Chapter President Raunghoo, Toronto Chapter Vice President Son Kyung-hwa, and Jeddah Chapter President Kim Dong-wook from Saudi Arabia.

In his lecture, "Loading for Success," Honorary Chairman Ha Yong-hwa emphasized that "the place where you are is the place of startup," and that "if you play with ownership, you can create tremendous results and new miracles.

After the closing ceremony, a business plan project award ceremony was held for the startup items discovered by each team.

The trade school was held for four days under the theme of 'Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Business'. Danny Park, co-founder and CEO of Robosync, an education franchise company; Jeon Jeong-seok, director of several documentary films on the Korean diaspora; Tim Hwang, co-founder and CEO of FiscalNote, an AI-based bill analysis company; and Dong Hyun Sung, a lawyer who served as chairman of the Legal Advisory Committee of the Korean American Association of New York, communicated with the trainees through special lectures.
