LEAD DISCUSSION TO IGNITE CREATIVITY Have your students trace the box they will be using to create their desk pet with to sketch their design out. Set a Time Timer® visual timer for 15 minutes and ask your students to brainstorm and sketch an animal they will create. What colors will they use for their desk pet? Will their desk pet have ears or a tail? What are they going to name their desk pet?

CREATE DESK PETS Now that your students have their ideas, set a Time Timer® visual timer for 40 minutes and have your students start creating. You can prompt them through the following steps:

Use construction paper to cover all sides of the box Use paper and markers to give your pet a face (eyes, nose, and mouth) on the front of the box Use paper and markers to give your pet feet, wings and tail if needed Use markers to draw details to make the desk pet uniquely yours
CREATE DESK PET ADOPTION CERTIFICATE Now that your students have their desk pet created, on a blank piece of paper have them draw a Desk Pet Adoption Certificate. Have them include the following details: • Their name • Desk pet’s name • What type of animal • Date of adoption Now you can display your students’ creativity on a shelf in the classroom!
