Dog Owners, Please Pick Up After Your Dog From Kathy, your Association Manager As the temperature begins to cool and we welcome the amazing fall weather, more of our families venture to our walking trails and green spaces to enjoy the outdoors. It is a frequent occurrence that they see pet waste that is left in these areas. Failure to pick up after your dog is a violation of the community rules and regulations. It is also illegal, and may result in a fine of up to $1,000 and/or six months of public service as noted in Part II Code of OrdinancesGeneral Ordinances, Chapter 18 Animals: Section 18-9. Calvin Quick Troop 463 Earns Eagle Scout Honors Boy Scouts of America’s Highest Rank is Rare Achievement Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Troop 463, has awarded Calvin Quick with the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor bestowed upon any scout. Quick is a Senior at Legacy Community Academy High School. Since its introduction in 1911, the Eagle Scout rank has been earned by more than two million young men. “This is an outstanding and significant achievement for Calvin Quick,” said Scoutmaster Wayne Miller, Troop 463. “Nationwide, only five percent of boys who start out in Scouting ever achieve this rank. “Troop 463 has a legacy of keeping boys motivated, giving them great scouting experiences outdoors, teaching them about service to community, and keeping them focused on the rewards that come with the journey toward achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.” Miller concluded. Calvin has served as Senior Patrol Leader of the troop, and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader for New Scouts for Troop 463 and has earned 26 merit badges. He attended Woodruff Scout Camp 5 times, Philmont Scout Ranch High Adventure, Bahamas Sea Base and St Thomas Sea Base. Calvin is a member of Free Chapel Church and is also active in Fifth Row Center Community Theater, Free Chapel Kids Ministry, and many Church Missions abroad, including Ghana Africa, Peru, and The Dominican Republic. He is the son of Darrin and Beth Quick of Flowery Branch, Ga. To become an Eagle Scout, boys are required to earn at least 21 merit badges and demonstrate Scout Spirit through the Boy Scout Oath and Law, service, and leadership. An extensive service project that the Scout plans, organizes, leads, and manages is also required. Calvin planned, organized, purchased materials and managed the Southwest Christian Care Hospice Nature Trail picnic pavilion shelter project to provide a picnic table shelter for Hospice visitors seeking solice on the Nature Trail. All requirements must be completed before the Scout’s 18th birthday. Then, the Scout must complete an Eagle Scout board of review. Upon completion, Eagle Scouts are presented with a medal and a badge during an Eagle Honor Court ceremony that publicly recognizes hard work, effort and accomplishments of the Scout. Sandy Springs United Methodist Church has supported Boy Scout troops since 1941 starting with Troop 1 of Sandy Springs which became Troop 236 in the 1950s. Troop 463 was chartered at Sandy Springs United Methodist Church on April 1, 1965 when Troop 236 became too large to meet on a single night.

New traffic signal makes for safer intersection at Sterling on the Lake Hall County officials have partnered with several other entities to make the intersection at the entrance to Sterling on the Lake subdivision on Spout Springs Road much safer for motorists in the area. Hall County District 1 Commissioner Kathy Cooper was contacted this spring by the subdivision’s developer, who had completed a traffic signal warrant study for the intersection. “I quickly shared that study with Hall County staff, Flowery Branch officials, representatives with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and Jackson EMC, who all worked together to make the signal a reality,” said Cooper. The new traffic light, which is temporary until the Spout Springs Road Widening Project is constructed, became operational at the intersection earlier this month. “Officials are currently monitoring traffic patterns in the area and making any timing adjustments that may be necessary,” said Ken Rearden, director of Hall County Public Works. The signals and control box were donated by GDOT, while the pole installation was provided by Jackson EMC. “Those donations shaved approximately $30,000 off the project’s total cost,” said Rearden, which totals approximately $99,400.00”. Please note that traditional Trick-or-Treating takes place annually on Halloween night (this year on Monday, October 31st.) The Association does not hold traditional Trick-orTreating on any other night, but does plan other activities so please RSVP to attend those that appeal to your family.

As our community has become a popular location for Trick-or-Treating, please keep the following in mind: • If you would prefer to not participate in Trick-orTreating and are home during the evening hours, please be sure your outdoor lights, front door or porch lights are turned off. • Signage will be placed at our entrances earlier in the day to inform non-resident guests to the SOTL community that Trick-or-Treating ends promptly at 8:30pm. • While Halloween activities affect many communities across the Greater Atlanta area, it is not specifically a Board nor Homeowners Association regulated issue or activity. The Association proactively partners with Flowery Branch Police Officers to help manage the increased traffic associated with Trick-or-Treaters visiting Sterling on the Lake, and to help keep this a safe activity for all local families. • If you are able to walk to the homes in your immediate area to Trick-or-Treat, please do so. This helps lessen any congestion on our streets.

EVENT RECAPS Lobbing For A Cure: Thank you to all who participated in the 2nd Annual Lobbing for a Cure. With the help of our 37 registrants, pros, volunteers, speakers and sponsors this proved to be a fun filled day for all who participated. Thanks to Belk for organizing the fashion show and Kristin Tinsley for her acoustic performance. Everyone who participated had a hand in raising $1,715.00 for CURE Childhood Cancer. Wimbledon Breakfast: Thanks to all who came out to the theater to watch the Wimbledon Men’s Singles Championship match and enjoy some home-made breakfast. Tennis Committee Cookout: The cookout on July 15th by the pool raised $57 to go to the General Fund for facility improvements. Summer Mixed Team Tennis: Congratulation to Chris Mundy’s ALTA mixed team for winning their division for the season and making it to round 2 of the playoffs! Tammy Riding and Jamie Floyd’s ALTA mixed teams qualified for the playoffs and completed their seasons in round 1. Congratulations to all ALTA mixed teams on a season well played! 14U Intermediate Junior Team Play in State Championships in Macon: Stuart Caldwell’s 14U Intermediate Junior USTA team qualified for the 2016 USTA Junior Team Tennis State Championships. The team traveled to Macon, GA the weekend of July 24th to play in the tournament. Ninety–two teams representing local leagues from across the state came to play. Tournament play was round robin and the team won their bracket and advanced to play for the State Championship Match! The kids played their hearts out in the scorching heat and lost the championship match and finished second in their age group. Team members: Caden Caldwell, Matthew Helms, Iris Hundeby, Garrett McKeon, Alyssa McSpadden, Davis Mundy, Olivia Nance, Sara Moore, Nathan Shedd, Alicia Quast, and Kendalle Quast. Harvest Balloon Festival 2016 Details & Info About our Beneficiaries: Proceeds from this year’s festival will be shared between two charities - Challenged Child & Friends, Inc., a local nonprofit in Hall County serving children with disabilities through educational, therapeutic, nursing and family counseling services, and the Hall County Animal Shelter, Hall County Government’s first full-service animal shelter with over 300 kennels that comfortably house about 8,000 animals each year.
Important Information Regarding the Festival
There will not be a Balloon Glow at this year's Harvest Balloon Festival Activity & Balloon Ride Tickets: Festival Hours: Saturday, October 15, 2016 3-9 p.m. Tickets for Saturday’s activities are available onsite at the festival beginning at 3:00PM. Activity Ticket Pricing: 1 Ticket = $1, 12 Tickets = $10, 25 Tickets = $20 Tickets for Saturday Tethered Rides* are available onsite at the festival beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday Evening Tethered Ride* Tickets: $15 per person Tickets for Sunday’s Tethered Rides* are also available Sunday morning for $15 per ticket. • Children under 18 years old must have a parent present to sign a liability release • Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by their adult parent on the tether ride (1 parent may accompany more than 1 of their children) • Liability waivers must be signed on-site, no pre-signed waivers can be accepted. Festival Entry, Road Closings & Parking: Admission is $2 entry per person (cash only). Festival armbands will be issued for each paid entry and are to be worn throughout your visit to the festival. FREE Parking is available at Flowery Branch High School. Complimentary shuttle service to the festival is available throughout the event, with the last shuttle of the evening loading at 10PM. The Spout Springs Road entrance will be closed for the duration of the festival. Residents are welcomed to invite their guests to use the Capitol Farms Road and Black Jack Road entrances. Please be mindful of your neighbors driveways, and park on only one side of the street to allow for emergency access. Alternative Methods of Transportation: To help with the flow of guests, residents are asked to consider walking, biking, carpooling and using golf carts to come down to the festival on the Village Green. Road Closures: Roads will close at 1:00PM sharp on October 15th, 2016, in preparation for the festival’s kickoff. Residents are asked to use the Captiola Farms Road and Blackjack Road entrances, and to instruct guests to either arrive before 1:00PM to avoid closures, or to use the Captiola Farms Road and Blackjack Road entrances. If you live in in the front of the community, between Spout Springs Road and the four-way stop (at Lake Sterling Boulevard, Fellowship Lane and Big Sky Drive) including Big Sky Drive, Golden Bud Lane, Creekstone Place, Trailing Ivy Way, Swallow Tail Lane, Outrigger Court, Bay Laurel Way, Blue Heron Way, Flagstone Way, Bent Twig Way and Hopscotch Court, please be prepared to show your validated 2016 Amenity Card or driver’s license (with updated SOTL address) for entry. With your
2016 Amenity Card or driver’s License, you will be able to enter and exit as needed (*yielding to festival buses and our Hay Ride for safety). If you live on one of the roads listed above, and you will be welcoming guests to your home during the road closure period, please have them arrive before 1:00PM to avoid any questions or road closures. Residents of Fellowship Lane and Treehouse Way are asked to kindly use either Capitola Farms Road or Blackjack Road entrances. *If you live in these sections and do not have an amenity card, please stop into the clubhouse BEFORE Thursday, October 13th to either purchase a replacement or receive your initial issue card. All other traffic will either be diverted around the community or instructed to following the parking directions to offsite Festival Parking at Flowery Branch High School. Carnival Rides and Ticketing Times: Please note that our larger carnival rides, Giant Hamster Ball, Body Zorbs, etc. may have lines, but the overall ride hours have been EXTENDED to accommodate more riders (in response to your feedback from last year). Ticket purchases are NON-Refundable, so plan your time accordingly. NEW THIS YEAR: We will have a high-flying ZIP LINE at the festival for you to enjoy! No Glass Containers, bottles, kegs or any other container other than paper or plastic cups may be brought into the festival area. Grills, large rolling coolers or cooking elements are also not permitted. No Campaigning on the festival grounds, or in or around Sterling on the Lake For safety, leave your pets at home. Service animals are always welcomed; owners must pick up after pets onsite at all times. An ATM is available throughout the festival at the clubhouse. Multiple Ticket Booths are available to assist you with ticket purchases. Volunteers: Hundreds of volunteers are needed to produce the festival each year. Tabata Yoga The benefits to yoga are
endless – everything from improving flexibility, strength and balance to lowered blood pressure, better sleep and peace of mind. In this class, we will learn yoga poses, linking them together using the Tabata method of 20 seconds of work and 10 seconds of rest. You will feel rejuvenated and relaxed. Class will be taught on a beginner level with many opportunities to progress or regress every move. Tabata Yoga will BEGIN on September 12th and be held at the Clubhouse from 7-8pm weekly.

Yoga includes strengthening and stretching movements, breath control and simple meditation. Our instructor (Heather) is certified in restorative and orthopedic practices, and can target movements to help you strengthen after surgery or injury, or to alleviate pressure or discomfort during your exercise.
