Updated Resident Spotlight: Sterling on the Lake Spartan Team
Last issue, Sterling Life featured Gary Marx’s story and an open invitation to residents to join together to form “Sterling on the Lake Spartan Team,” whose goal is not only to compete in the upcoming Spartan Race, but to build strength, self-confidence and determination, and to join together in commitment to become BETTER… Our Sterling Spartan Team has 12+ members who meet twice a week to train and team build at the Fitness Center (Tuesday/Thursday evenings). Many of these members are planning to embark on the adventure of the upcoming Spartan Race (www.Spartan.com) and all members can tell you that the workouts have been I.N.T.E.N.S.E!

Association Manager’s Corner
New to the Community? Here are a few things you need to know: • Please make an appointment to receive your photo Resident Amenity Card shortly after you close (your Closing Documents will be needed). Appointments can be made 7-days-a-week by calling 770-965-3980. • Modifications or changes (including painting) made to the exterior of your home must be approved by the Design Review Committee (DRC) PRIOR to work commencing. You may obtain the forms online (www.Sterling-Life. com). • Trash pickup is on Tuesdays, trashcans can be placed curb-side on Monday evening after 5:00pm and must be returned to their storage place after pickup on Tuesday evening, but no later than 9:00am on Wednesday morning (after pickup) to avoid potential fines. Trashcans must be stored out of sight of neighbors and sight from the street at all times.
• The clubhouse is open EVERY DAY, 7-days-aweek; the hours are Mondays – Saturdays from 10:00am to 6:00pm and Sundays from 12 Noon to 6:00pm (unless otherwise noted). • The Association Manager, Kathy, has office hours Mondays – Fridays from 9:00am to 5:00pm. On occasion, she is out of the office on site visits, checking on complaints, meeting with vendors, etc. If you would like to make an appointment to speak with her in person, please email her at KAndrews@CMACommunities. com. • Both Hall County and the City of Flowery Branch require your dog to be leashed when not contained in your home or on your fenced property. Please help curb your pet from using your neighbors’ yards to relieve themselves. Dog Stations are located throughout the community to help you clean up after your dog during your walk times.
Are you leasing your home? If you choose to lease your home within Sterling on the Lake, here are some things you need to be aware of: • The lease term must be NO LESS than 12 months. • Leases must be for single families only, no subletting is permitted. • A copy of your countersigned lease should be turned in to the Association Manager’s office (including renewals and extensions). • The homeowner’s updated address must be on file with the Association. • Homeowners MUST BE Current on all assessments or fees and give written permission directly to the Association’s offices for tenants to have amenity cards. 6
• Please keep in mind, as the homeowner, you are ultimately responsible for the behavior of your tenants at the amenity areas and their compliance with the community standards and covenants. Should there be any fines issued for non-compliance, the fee is yours to pay, and collecting it from the tenant is the homeowner’s responsibility. • Your access to the community amenities is revoked once your lease holder takes residence in your home. Amenities are for resident usage only. A resident is defined as an individual that lives full time in the home within Sterling on the Lake; a homeowner is defined as the individual on the record of title for the home.

March Reminder: It Is Time To Change Out Your Flowerbeds Into Spring Flowers Towards the end of March, please plan to have your homes’ landscaping beds refreshed with seasonal color. Keep in mind which flowers or flowering plants you decide to use, as their cold weather hardiness is different. To help you, the following common flowers are listed with their frost resistance for reference: Frost resistance of annual flowers. Very Hardy* Frost Tolerant** Tender*** Warm Loving**** Corn flower Bells of Ireland Aster Ageratum Ornamental cabbage Black-eyed Susan Nicotiana Balsam impatiens Pansy Coreopsis Petunia Begonia Primrose Dianthus Scabiosa Cosmos Violet Calendula Statice Impatiens Snapdragon Sweet alyssum Marigold Stock Verbena Phlox, annual Sweet pea Salvia Torenia Zinnia
* Very hardy flowers can withstand freezing temperatures and hard frosts for short periods without injury. They may be planted as soon as the ground can be prepared, usually 4 to 6 weeks before the average frost-free date. ** Frost tolerant flowers can withstand light frosts and can be planted 2 to 3 weeks before the average frost-free date. *** Tender flowers are injured or killed by frost. Transplants lack vigor in cold soil. and may need to be replaced for desired floral display. They are usually planted on or after the average frost-free date. **** Warm loving flowers cannot tolerate cold. They require warm soils for transplants to survive and become established. They should be planted 1 to 2 weeks after the average frost-free date.
Reminder: If you plan to reformat or add to your home’s outdoor appeal with
landscaping projects this Spring or Summer, be sure to complete the appropriate approval forms to avoid possible fines. Modifications Guidelines are listed on www.Sterling-Life.com

Suffragette • Thursday, March 24th Movie Starts at 6:30pm • Rated PG-13
Set in 1912 Britain, the story centers on Maud Watts, a working-class wife and mother who toils with her husband Sonny at a London laundry. She is startled one day by a protest by the Suffragettes, who are turning to public acts of civil disobedience to win the vote for women. She is even more surprised to see that her co-worker Violet is one of the agitators. Initially unwilling to get involved, Maud comes to realize that she must claim her dignity both at home and in her workplace and joins brave women from all walks of life. Her commitment to the movement is tested by giving testimony before Parliament, a brutal street skirmish, and a brief jail stint that alarms her husband. She is led to hard choices that will change her life forever, as she strives to effect real change for generations to come. Inspired by true events.
Bridge of Spies • Thursday, April 14th Movie Starts at 6:30pm • Rated PG-13
James Donovan, an insurance claims lawyer, is thrust into the center of the Cold War when he agrees to represent a Soviet spy captured in New York, committed to ensuring the man receives a fair trial regardless of politics. Later, an American U-2 spy plane is shot down over Soviet airspace, and the pilot, Francis Gary Powers, is captured and imprisoned. The CIA, while categorically denying any knowledge of the mission, is fearful that Powers may be coerced into revealing classified information. Having witnessed Donovan’s impressive skills in the courtroom, a CIA operative secretly reaches out to recruit him for a national security mission of great importance.
SUNDAY MATINEES Goosebumps • Sunday, March 6th
Matinee starts at 2:00pm • Rated PG Upset about moving from a big city to a small town, teenager Zach Cooper finds a silver lining when he meets his next door neighbor Hannah… Zach comes to learn that Hannah has a mysterious dad who is revealed to be R. L. Stine, the author of the bestselling Goosebumps series. It turns out that there is a reason why Stine is so strange he is a prisoner of his own imagination. The monsters that his books made famous are real, and Stine protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books. When Zach unintentionally unleashes the monsters from their manuscripts, and they begin to terrorize the town, it’s suddenly up to Stine, Zach, and Hannah to get all of them back in the books where they belong.
Hatched • Sunday, April 10th
Matinee starts at 2:00pm • Rated PG When a spaceship crashes into the farmhouse, it’s up to Cluck, Charlie and their pals to save the barnyard and perhaps the universe. After their new alien friend Magic is nabbed by the “fowlest” of villains, Angelina, calls the critters of the barnyard into action to save Magic and the farm’s food supply. All the while, Cluck and his best buddies craft a flying machine to catch the wretched criminals and bring their friend home. 22

Registration ends March 19th, so be sure to visit www.Sterling-Life. com to get additional information on how to register either as a single player or as a team. What is cornhole? Our league will supply handcrafted boards and bags, which are to be used during our league play as they adhere to standards established by the American Cornhole Organization. Where does the league take place? Games will take place at the Back Field (near the pool) on Friday evenings from 6:30pm – 8:00pm. How do I register a team? Teams are comprised of 2 - 4 players, all males, all females, or mixed. To register to play in the SOTL league, please visit www.Sterling-Life.com and click on the Cornhole League Registration button on the home page. You will be directed to create your Cornhole

Can I register as a single person? Yes! Our league will match you with other Free Agents! When you are completing your registration, be sure to select “Free Agent” instead of “Team”. Can my team have non-resident players? Yes! As this is our Sterling on the Lake Cornhole League’s launch, we welcome teams with blended participants! If your team is mainly non-residents, please note that the Team Captain must be a resident of the community. Is there a fee associated with the league participation? Yes, a registration fee applies to all players of this league. The league fee helps to cover expenses including t-shirts for each team, supplies, regulation boards, bags, insurance for member participation, prizes, etc. The fee also helps ensure that league members take participation seriously… there is nothing worse than joining a league and setting up competitions and having a large number of no-shows!
