DID You KNOW?

Monthly friendly advice for our Reunion neighbors about covenants issues & guidelines

Thank you to all that are adhering to the Covenant’s and recognizing that these regulations are necessary to keep our community a visually pleasing and safe place to live. Yard Debris With the coming of winter it is important to rake up leaves and deposit them appropriately. Do not blow any kind of vegetative matter resulting from lawn maintenance, such as leaves, grass clippings and debris into the street as it winds up in the storm drains. Mailboxes If your mailbox needs attention there are several options for repairing it: DO IT YOURSELF: Mailbox & Post: Mailbox & Post should be painted with a Black Satin Finish. Use a rust protection paint, like Rustoleum. Do not use black paint over the Reunion logo. Flag: The flag should be painted in high visible Emergency Red Gloss outdoor paint. Reunion Logo/Medallion: The Reunion logo/medallion must be painted in a Metallic Antique Gold with a paint marker such as “Testors Enamel Markers” OR “American Accents Leafing Pen.”. Mailbox Numbers: The mailbox numbers should be 2” gold numbers. Must be on both side of the mailbox. HIRE SOMEONE TO DO IT FOR YOU: Below is a list of a few vendors who can refresh your mailbox for you using the standard listed above. Kenneth Neff, mailboxes@kennyneff.com or 678-727-8001. Ted Tatum with Mailbox Refreshers, 770-827-5365. Mailbox Project, www.mailboxproject.com or 770-535-0036. MAILBOX NUMBERS: Reunion Numbers, www.reunionnumbers.com The numbers are $16.00 per mailbox. Easy Install: Includes two (2) sets of gold outdoor quality vinyl address numbers, transfer tape and instructions on how to apply the numbers. Mailbox Project, www.mailboxproject.com or 770-535-0036 The numbers are $32.00 per mailbox. Easy Install: Includes two (2) stickers with address numbers ready for placement on mailbox. Other friendly reminders include: • All cars parked in the roadway must be facing the direction of traffic. They can be parked there only if no alternative is available in the driveway and only for a four-hour duration. Cars cannot be parked in a way that is considered hazardous as in the roadways that are curved or on a hill. Also, they should never be parked on the concrete areas of the walkways or on the grass. • Trashcans must not be in view from the road or from the golf course. • Basketball hoops must be placed perpendicular to the driveway. • When considering repainting your home – you must have approval for a color change. You do not have to have approval if you are simply repainting the same color. Consider all of the above to remain in compliance with the Covenants at Reunion.

From neighbor to neighbor - have a wonderful holiday season. 4

Empty NESTERS CORNER

EMPTY NESTERS’ Go Italian On the evening of October 8th, the Empty Nester group of Reunion Country Club converted The Meeting House into a Ristorante Italiano and the Village Green into Bocce Central as they enjoyed their annual Italian Night / Bocce Competition. Forty-two members of the group converged on the Meeting House with various delectable, homemade Italian dishes in hand to be shared and enjoyed together. It need not be said that the food was as outstanding as was the anticipation of it. Following their usual social period and dining time, those who dared ventured out to the Village Green which was set up with two regulation sized Bocce courts to begin the annual Reunion Empty Nester Bocce Showdown. With the competition brisk and the fun and laughter abundant, only one team emerged as victors as the setting sun forced an end to the battle. The team of Mike Reiland, Blanton

Bagwell, Jim Trimble and Tom Benson surfaced as the crème de la crème and took home the first place prizes for the 2016 competition. Many thanks go to Ann Marie & Bruce Gray, Lucille & John Santorelli and Joanne & Tom Gillespie for serving as hosts for the event. Thanks also to all who generously provided delicious food and to those who helped with the set up prior to and clean up after the affair. Summed up in a word, the night was… FANTASTICO!! Prospective members are invited to come to an event, free of charge, to see if there is an interest in joining. The membership is more than just a party club. It has evolved into friendships that provide strong support for one another. If you have an interest or more questions, please contact Rebecca Hagler at 678641-6209 or haglerrebecca@yahoo.com.

‘Tis the season for scams: 9 HOLIDAY RIP-OFFS TO AVOID With the holiday shopping madness about to begin, consumer groups say scammers are ready and waiting to exploit the chaos and take advantage of our desire to get the hottest gifts at the best prices. “The holidays bring out the best in people…and the worst in scammers. Like the Grinch who stole Christmas, scammers don’t care if they ruin your holiday plans,” said Carrie Hurt, president and CEO of the Council of Better Business Bureaus. Here are 10 scams to watch for... GIFT CARD SCAMS Gift cards are a favorite target for con artists this time of year, according to the BBB. And with retailers estimating gift-card shopping will hit an all-time high -- 80 percent of shoppers are expected to buy at least one this holiday season -- the BBB is warning consumers to be on the lookout for two sneaky schemes aimed at taking advantage of their popularity In one scheme, thieves go into a store, find the gift-card rack and then secretly copy the numbers off the cards, sometimes scratching off the security codes. The thieves then check online or call the 1-800 number to see if someone has bought the cards and activated them. As soon as a card is active, the thieves go on a shopping spree online. By the time you try to use the same card, the money is long gone. The BBB also warns consumers to be wary of offers for discounted gift cards sold online. Scammers may try to pocket your cash, and use the gift cards for themselves. How to Protect Yourself Buy gift cards directly from a reputable retailer. And before you buy, inspect the card to make sure the packaging hasn’t been tampered with and the activation code hasn’t been scratched off. You can also ask a store clerk for a card that’s been kept behind the counter. If you include a gift receipt with the card, it may help get a replacement. PACKAGE THEFT With more and more people shopping online this time of year, the BBB is warning people not to leave unattended packages on their doorsteps. From Atlanta to Seattle, San Diego to Boston, thieves have been caught on camera walking right up to houses and swiping packages right off the doorstep. Police believe the criminals follow delivery trucks into neighborhoods. How to Protect Yourself Require a signature for the package and if no one’s going to be home, have the package held at the nearest service location so you can pick it up at your convenience. COUNTERFEIT RETAILER WEBSITES Federal authorities are warning many websites that appear to be selling popular brands could actually be fake. Officials say counterfeiters have stepped up their game in recent years, going beyond peddling phony merchandise on street corners and flea markets to form elaborate criminal networks to perpetrate their schemes. “What consumers need to be aware of is that as these networks have become more sophisticated, their ability to defraud consumers and legitimate businesses has increased significantly.,” said Lev Kubiak, director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center. In the last year alone, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have shut down 1,500 fake retailer websites, including those appearing to sell high-end brand-name jewelry, popular clothing lines, workout DVDs and top kids’ products. Many of the websites look nearly identical to real retailer web pages, with similar fonts, graphics, images, logos and layouts. ICE warns these fake sites often send inferior merchandise that falls apart or doesn’t work, or may send nothing at all, instead stealing your personal information and credit card number. How to Protect Yourself Officials urge consumers to do their research. Look for a working customer service number or a brick and mortar store and call them to ask if the site you’re looking at is legit. They also say you should always use a credit card instead of a debit card when shopping online, it’s easier to contest the charges. And finally, inspect the websites carefully. If you see grammatical errors or spelling mistakes, that could be a major red flag. SUSPICIOUS SOCIAL MEDIA GIVEAWAYS Security experts are also warning social media users of suspicious giveaway offers that may pop up on your Facebook and Twitter feeds. Researchers at the security software firm Trend Micro say they’ve found suspicious pages advertising raffles for many of the season’s hottest gifts. Christopher Budd of Trend Micro says these “giveaways” and “raffles” appear to be using popular gaming consoles to lure people into unknowingly signing up for paid text message schemes. The offers solicit “Likes” or “Shares” to get distributed on social media feeds. Researchers say the more the offer is shared, the more likely people are to buy in. “It exploits what we in security call the circle of trust,” said Budd. How to Protect Yourself Be wary of any “giveaways” or “raffles” that direct you to a survey site asking for personal information and your mobile phone number. Only sign up for promotions offered by reputable organizations. FIVE OTHER SCAMS TO WATCH FOR, ACCORDING TO THE BBB Malware e-cards: E-mail greeting cards that appear to be from a friend or associate but actually contain a link that will download malicious software onto your computer to steal personal information. Grandparent scams: As families gather for the holidays, scammers will target the elderly with a desperate call or email from a “stranded” grandchild or loved one claiming they’ve had their wallets stolen and need money wired to them immediately. Mall pickpockets: Thieves take advantage of busy malls and frantic shoppers to steal purses and wallets. Bogus coupons: Coupons or discount codes are often sold online and in-person at a fraction of their face value. BBB warns they could be completely worthless. Santa scammers: If you get an email offering to send a personal letter from Santa to your child, be wary. It may be a phishing scheme aimed at collecting personal information for identity theft. Fake charities: You should be on the lookout for “sound alike” charities and street-corner collectors. Do your research before making any donations.

“The best way to avoid holiday scams is to educate yourself about what to look out for, and to be cautious in every situation,” said Hurt.

A PLEA FOR HELP from Residents & Vendors

Street Parking on any street within Reunion has always been and will continue to be dangerous with potential to limit or restrict access by emergency vehicles. In recent weeks, a residential fire required immediate and complete access to the entire width of Grand Reunion for oversized fire fighting vehicles. A home lightning strike also recently occurred within our community with similar roadway access requirements. Everyone is aware that street parking violates the Reunion Protective Covenants1, and in some instances Georgia Code for Motor Vehicles and Traffic2. Once again we find it necessary to plead for help from residents and service contractors. Our streets are narrow and wide enough to accommodate only two vehicles abreast. If one of them is parked on the street, passing will require great skill not often mastered by our younger less experienced residents or their friends and visitors. A frequent danger occurs with vehicles parked on opposite sides of the roadway within close proximity to one another. Often times it is service vehicles that fail to exercise common sense. Any time it becomes necessary to drive on the opposite side of the roadway to accommodate such passing; it is an unnecessary risk with potential for liability for the parking offender and the resident permitting the violation.

WE NEED EVERYONE’S HELP TO KEEP RESIDENTS SAFE!

• Parking Covenant Violations: EmilyCooper@FieldStoneRP.com; 404-920-8621 • Motor Vehicle Violations: Hall County Sheriff ’s Department Dispatch: 770-536-8812

1) DECLARATION OF PROTECTIVE COVENANTS FOR REUNION Article VI: Use Restrictions and Rules; Page 11; Section 4: Vehicles • Vehicles shall not be parked on any street within the Community. • Vehicles shall not be parked on the Common Property or on any portion of a Lot other than the driveway and the garage. • Except for passenger non-commercial automobiles, vehicles shall not be parked so as to be visible from any Lot for periods of more than twenty-four (24) continuous hours. 2) GEORGIA CODE – MOTOR VEHICLES & TRAFFIC, TITLE 40 § 40-6-203: No person shall stop, stand or park a vehicle: • On a sidewalk • Within an intersection • On a crosswalk • In front of a private driveway • Within 15 feet of a fire hydrant • Within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection § 40-6-206: (a) Whenever any police officer finds a vehicle in violation of any of the provisions of Code Section 40-6-202, such officer is authorized to move such vehicle or require the driver or other person in charge of the vehicle to move it to a position off the roadway. 20
