C I T Y C H A M P I O N S !

Whether you know it or not, Reunion has a thriving tennis community. While many residents will play various tennis leagues, it is the Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association (ALTA) that brings residents together to compete as a team A stroll around the tennis courts will show many division winner and city champion signs throughout the years since Reunion was established.

In 2021, the Reunion Fall Men’s Doubles ALTA team won their. For those who are not familiar with ALTA, there are different levels (AA, A, B, and C) and flights (1-8), and teams with similar ratings play a 7-week regular season in hopes of making it to City Playoffs. There are 5 matches played each week, and each match (or line) is worth 1 point Winning the division in 2021 elevated the team from B-4 to B-2

The following year, with enough players for two rosters, the team decided to split to allow more opportunity for everyone to play competitively. Starting in the fall of 2022, there were two men’s ALTA teams in Reunion. The higher-level team eventually progressed to A-8, and there was a newly formed C-1 team. A few seasons near the bottom of their division caused the C team dropped down to a C-3 level flight

The drop in ranking was not for a lack of talent, but rather an adjustment period of new players learning how to play with each other and establishing chemistry on the court Michael Meadows also took over as captain in the Fall of 2023. That chemistry became apparent in the fall of 2024 when the C team found themselves in a winner-take-all battle with the number one ranked team in their division to c lose out the season. While they were the only team to take the majority of points (or lines) against the number 1 team, they still found themselves 1 point short of winning the division They went on to be eliminated in the first round of city playoffs No trophy, no bag tags, or anything else to commemorate the season

Then came the Spring 2025 season. With a chip on their shoulder and somethin g to prove, the team set out to win it all. The on-court chemistry establishing strong bonds, the (now C2) Reunion Men’s Doubles team went on to win 87% of their regular season matches. The next closest division opponent, Bitsy Grant Tennis Center, won 73% of their matches, and those two teams would face off in the City Championship.

The Spring 2025 season was a good one for both Reunion Men’s teams The A and C teams both won their division and advanced past the first round of playoffs

The day of the City Finals started with a thunderstorm. Play was supposed to start promptly at 9AM, but mother nature had other plans. The rain slowed around 10:30AM and the team put in the work to dry the courts with no help from their opponents. The courts were finally ready to play by 11:30AM, and so started the first match. Line 3 finished play around 3:00PM and sealed their status as City Champions!
