VISION 2030 Public Art Initiative

The Chamber's VISION 2030 program recently launched its Public Arts Initiative. During my term as Chamber Chairman, this program has become one of my top priorities. The mission of the VISION 2030 Public Art Committee is to enhance the lives of every citizen and the community’s long-term economic vitality through exhibition of public artworks. Under the leadership of committee chairs, LeTrell Simpson, Con-sen-sus, and Frank Norton Jr., The Norton Agency, the committee has worked on a Public Art Walking Tour and Map for over two years with many hours of research and cataloging of public art inventory. I'd like to thank Meg Nivens for her work and dedication to this and other VISION 2030 projects along with VISION Chair Davis White, LinkPoint Advantage, and Vice Chair Melissa Tymchuk, Northeast Georgia Health System.

Gainesville-Hall County was a host to the 2015 International VIP Tour presented by the Georgia Department of Economic Development. During the tour's stop in Gainesville, the group was given an overview and tour of the Lake Lanier Olympic Venue. The annual event was a three-day showcase of Northeast Georgia to dignitaries representing 28 countries of the Consular Corps. This year, the itinerary included a tour of Dawsonville, Dahlonega, Young Harris, Sautee Nacoochee, Cornelia, Gainesville and Braselton. The tour creates an opportunity to familiarize VIP Tour guests with destinations they might not have otherwise seen, as well as create long-lasting friendships and business connections. georgia.org

Agribusiness Awards Recipients The Chamber's Agribusiness Recognition Awards were presented in April to promote and show appreciation of the agribusiness and agricultural community in Hall County.

Friend of Agriculture Sammy Smith is owner of a public relations firm and a member of the Gainesville City School Board who reached out to connect agriculture with Centennial Elementary during their fund raising efforts to buy a heifer for a family in Africa.

Sammy also was a part of the poultry industry for a number of years. Agribusiness of the Year Lanny Dunagan Welding Service is a family owned company started

by Lanny's father and now includes Lanny's son, Paden. The company is rooted in agribusiness and created an innovative rollover protective structure for forestry right of way tractors. Hall of Fame Inductee Dr. Rick Hinton was a large animal veterinarian who specialized in equine care. The awards program was presented by the Chamber and Hall County Cooperative Extension and sponsored by Jackson EMC. This is a signature project of the club, and members provide the skills to do everything from the design, engineering, construction, and funding of the ramps. Youth Leadership 10th Anniversary Leadership Hall County

The Greater Hall Chamber celebrates the 10th Anniversary of Youth Leadership Hall (YLH). Initiated in 2005, the program now has 576 student graduates. A program for high school juniors and seniors, YLH seeks to provide an investment in the community’s future leadership by fostering interest in the community and inspiring students to become the leaders of tomorrow. The 2015-2016 class is the largest yet with 72 students. The program begins with a kick-off program at the Gainesville Civic Center in August with educators, principals, superintendents, volunteers and parents. Students will participate in monthly programs on topics such as the judicial system, healthcare, servant leadership, and economic development. Students must have a satisfactory academic standing and be nominated by a teacher, administrator, coach, or extra curricular activity director.

Wisdom Keeper projects include developing and implementing an improvement plan to address national criteria for “successful aging” along with initiating the iTNLanier senior transportation program; developing the “Path to Wisdom” two-day seminar; Salvation Army career educational classes; an art gallery docent program; and a strategic plan for occupational therapy education.

The Fall 2015 Session of The Wisdom Project kicks off on August 13 and includes eight programs, concluding on November 20. The Chamber's Spring 2015 Residential Beautification Award was presented to Betty's Garden at 725 Candler Street in Gainesville. Betty Shott and her husband, Hugh, moved back to Gainesville from Florida and purchased a condo on Candler Street. The couple was able to acquire the house (which had to be demolished) and a beautiful lot across the street from their condo and have created a lush garden and green space. Betty has done magnificent job on the gardens which neighbors enjoy immensely.
