“He wanted to serve his community.

He wanted to do the job that he loved, and it cost him his life. I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was out there doing what he loved to do. I knew that just by talking to him,” said Captain Brad Rounds.

Dixon was fatally shot July 7, 2019 in an exchange of gunfire in Gainesville after pulling over a car and engaging in a foot pursuit with four suspects.

Police have said the car was stolen, and a pawn shop burglary in which a large number of firearms were stolen is connected.

“To me, I think of my whole division that work for me … as my own kids.

I feel like I’ve lost one of my own kids, and I think that’s how the rest of the division feels. We lost a family member, and that’s how we are.

We’re very tight-knit because we depend on each other to watch each other’s back and be there when we need each other,” Rounds said.
