The most important duty of our association is to protect the value of our property; the most important asset within our community is not the property itself, but the members who make up the association. As members of the community, homeowners bring their own individual tastes, likes, dislikes and preferences into the community. It is that diversity that makes our community interesting and full of life. It is also that diversity that creates the need for commonly accepted guidelines in order to help everyone get along and pursue a collective goal: a peaceful and harmonious community. By recognizing the diverse makeup of our most valuable assets, the homeowner members can begin to understand the need for commonly accepted rules and regulations, architectural guidelines and the need for a Board of Directors made up of a cross-section of homeowners. The key to successful association living is to recognize the benefits provided by living within an association and accept that certain behaviors and actions detract from those benefits. Conforming to community guidelines, active participation in association activities such as committees and eventually the board of directors, and choosing to

attend our information meetings in order to understand the issues that face our association are perfect examples of how each and every one of us can contribute to the betterment of our community. To neglect that responsibility is to neglect our investment, and few of us can afford to do that! Architectural Controls and Guidelines: Approval Ensures Conformity and Promotes Property Values Our governing documents require that the Association approve all proposed architectural changes before any work is started. Membership in a community association requires compliance to pre-existing conditions and regulations. One of the biggest advantages of these conditions is the protection of our property values. By regulating the kind and types of architectural changes that can be done, our Association is better able to maintain our property values. Getting our Association to approve all proposed architectural changes is not just a good idea to protect your investment, it is a requirement! The Welcome Committee is now welcoming new residents in Phases 3A and B, our neighbors across Browns Bridge Road. We have approximately three closings per week including resales. Our next Welcome Coffee will be held on November 12th at 10:00 am in the Crows Nest at The Club. All new residents since March, 2016, that have not attended, will be invited. The Welcome Committee is working diligently to welcome all new residents to Cresswind. If you have not heard from a Welcome Committee member within four weeks of officially moving in, please let us know (this includes Resales). We want all to feel WELCOME.

Cresswind Community Chorus
Bowling League

The new season of the Cresswind Community Chorus begins on Monday, September 12 at 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm in the Ballroom. Choose one or the other. There are currently over 100 members in the chorus. New members are invited to come and there is no audition. The chorus will begin rehearsing for the Holiday Music Celebration which will take place December 2nd though the 4th. Songs for this concert will include “Carol of the Bells”, “Winter Wonderland”, “Sleigh Ride”, “We Need a Little Christmas”, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”, “Mary, Did You Know”, “O Holy Night” and many more. Guest artist for the Holiday Music Celebration will be world-class soprano Jana Young who is on voice faculty of Kennesaw State University. She just spent the summer teaching and singing in Austria. The Cresswind Community Chorus will also join the Brenau University Spectrum Singers for a holiday concert at the university on Monday, November 28th. The concert will be free to the public.
The Cresswind Bowling League started its second year at the Gainesville Bowling Center on August 25th. The first season ended with fifteen teams and lots of substitutes. Many Cresswind residents got back into the groove with this fun, low impact sport after years of not having bowled. This league is open to all skill levels and is for men and women. The handicap system we utilize makes it a level playing field for all. One of the most competitive teams in our first year was comprised of all women! So you have no excuse Cresswind residents! Take out your frustrations by heaving a fifteen pound ball down a long alley and knocking down ten pins. You can pretend the pins are your enemy!

Cooking Club News By: Paula King Grill & Ale will sponsor the Oktoberfest scheduled for September 24th. David Jones will lead this party which will have traditional German food and much more! To add excitement to the Oktoberfest, there will be a door prize to the owner of the best beer stein and also to the individual with the most authentic German Oktoberfest costume. Several people have questioned why the Oktoberfest is being held in September. This day was chosen because the date is the weekend in the middle of the Oktoberfest held in Munich, Germany, which starts on September 17th and runs through October 3rd. A repeat of last year’s very successful Beer Tasting and Poker Run is also being considered. So stay tuned for updates and ticket sales.

Performing Arts Club By: Wayne Schrader CPAC meets semi-annually to review past, present, and future productions of the Cresswind Arts community. Anyone who participates in a Cresswind production automatically becomes a voting member in the organization. The primary task of the elected Board of Directors is to encourage, develop, and support all forms of artistic expression within the community. If you have any suggestions, or proposals, regarding the arts, please contact a board member and it will be discussed. The current board consists of Wayne Schrader, President; Roy Gogel, Vice President; Heidi Anderson, Secretary, and Andy Hampton, Treasurer. Bert Emma, Chuck Bridwell and Ron Chiles, At-large members, may also assist you. Scheduled meetings include a September Board of Directors session and a November General Membership meeting.

The Gamers Group under the direction of Diane Laird has brought two new games to the Cresswind Club. SAMBA is a card game like Hand and Foot but somewhat accelerated. Samba is played every Tuesday at 6:00 pm in the Card Room with overflow in the Crow’s Nest. There is a teaching table, so feel free to come a few minutes early to socialize, meet new players, and learn the game. There is also a play/ learning day on Thursdays at 12:30 pm at the Poker tables. POKENO is a game like Bingo with playing cards and is very easy to learn. Pokeno is played every Sunday at 6:00 pm in the Crow’s Nest. Men and Women play these games - so don’t be shy!
The members of the RV Club, being a most social group, held a combined meeting and social gathering at the home of Jami and Dave (Club President Pro Tem) Dittmeier. Several outstanding trip possibilities were discussed and a couple of these are being participated in, including a trip to Rome, GA for the annual Wings Over North Georgia event in October. Other trips in various stages of development are a Christmas trip and a return trip to Lake Toxaway, NC. Keep calm and camp on!

Fall Bingo Night
Tuesday, September 20 7:00pm Bingo is always a blast! After a hot summer, Sports & Games Club invites you to attend the FALL BINGO NIGHT on Tuesday night, September 20 at 7:00pm in the ballroom. The cost is only $10 and as always there will be lots of winners. In addition there will be a limited number of extra bingo cards available for $5 when you arrive. There will be free water and finger snacks and you can BYOB. Every bingo game winner will receive a $15 restaurant card, plus there will be tons of fabulous door prizes including a grand door prize of a $50 restaurant card. Don’t wait too late to sign up. Kayak Club By: Ted Holbrook The Kayak Club continues to grow with our membership now at 147. We have a number of very active kayakers and continue to see interest expressed by many of our newest residents. This is very gratifying to see by those of us who enjoy this activity available to our community. The fun paddles on Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday mornings at 8:00 a.m. will continue during the September/October period. Although numbers are at times small, everyone who participates seems to enjoy the experience and camaraderie. The improvements to the dock have been delayed but it is hoped that everything can be worked out with the contractor and that work can begin by September 1st. Will keep everyone posted on any developments. We are planning on a fall club paddle, sometime in October, to The Pavilion at Lanier Point Park which is the same distance or a little less than Skogies. Details of this event will be disseminated to the club members in the near future.

Miniature Golf Update By: David Jones The Mini-Golf SIG continues to gather on the second Wednesday of each month to play 18 holes of miniature golf at the Oaks Miniature Golf Course. Outings will be Wednesday, September 14th and Wednesday, October 12th. Our Special Interest Group is growing as our Cresswind community is expanding. The Cresswind Quilters have stayed cool and busy this summer. The donation of comfort quilts to the Gainesville PD was presented and gratefully received. We had a couple of personal projects that were quick and fun to make and we have started on the blocks for our Christmas donation quilt. Tickets for this project will be on sale in October and the drawing will be held at the Holiday Bazaar. We have also continued our support of Quilts for Kids. We hope you will join us on the first and third Thursday of each month 1:00-4:00pm in the Craft room. All levels of sewing are encouraged to join. Pickleball News! By: Jack Hollfelder The Summer League season has ended and it was a resounding success. 48 women played in the women’s league, 36 men competed in the men’s league, and 16 people played in the novice league. Veterans Club By: Roy Gogel Several senior University of North Georgia executives will educate the Club on both the ROTC program in Dahlonega and also the breadth of Veterans attending various UNG campuses such as Oakwood. The Club has been in discussion with UNG for a year regarding a possible scholarship for returning Veterans seeking completion of their undergraduate education. Board officers traveled to Dahlonega for an in-depth presentation; September’s presentation will share the university’s actions and our possible assistance to a needy Veteran with the Club as a whole. October’s Club discussion should provide interesting insights to all members. Looking ahead, the Veterans Day program on November 11th will be during the day so as not to conflict with the play and more details to follow. Both Veterans and those interested in giving and a willingness to help others are urged to check charitable service areas at www.cresswindveterans.org. Membership is open to all residents.

Singles & Solos Group By: Christi Lazear The Singles & Solos Group is always having fun! Recently some members attended the Circus at the Chicopee Woods Agricultural Center, a ballet performance at the Hosch Theatre, a 90th Birthday Party for three members, lunch at Pig Tales on the lake, lunch at Riggy’s Bar & Grill and a BBQ party on the lake with John Snyder’s boat buddies. Future plans include a lunch with shopping at the Dawsonville Premium Outlets and whitewater rafting when we get up enough nerve.
