Arts and Crafts Club By: Dawn Davis It is fall - the season for decorating, creating, entertaining, good eating, and super fun events at our club house. Several creative Cresswind neighbors led super fun events for the Arts and Crafts Club. Thank you, Kathie Zeranski, for introducing the Arts & Crafts Club to zen tangle inspired art by teaching the October “Make & Take” event. Tuesday night classes taught by Angela Medley have expanded into simple print making. Print making is an original art piece created using printmaking tools instead of a paintbrush or chisel. Sheran Connolly led a “Make & Take” of abstract art canvas painting. We learned a new technique using plastic wrap. November 3rd was the last Card Making Class for 2016. Watch your Daily Update for the date of our January 2017 class. If you have a super fun “Make & Take” to share, please contact Angela Medley to volunteer.

Fishing SIG News By: Toby Kelley When the summer weather heated up, the fishing cooled off so, we are all looking forward to the Fall fishing pattern setting up. That will mean the bigger fish will return to mid lake and the top water bite will pick up- good news for Cresswind fishermen. Get on our SIG mailing list to be included on notices of upcoming “group fishes”, January road trip to Atlanta boat show, and the 2017 Cresswind Fishing School. With luck, we may catch something to hang on our wall- like Cresswind super fishermen Dewey Colbaugh and Brian Sturizone.

Cresswind LL Community Fund Announces Goals for 2016 By:Cathy Hoskinson The Cresswind LL Community Fund Board of Directors announced at the third quarter meeting on September 22nd that 25% of its goal of $10,000 by year end has now been reached. Within the community, key projects include making the entrance to The Club handicap accessible, securing an additional defibrillator near the tennis and pickleball courts, and a stretch board for the exercise room. The grant screening committee will review grant applications from outside organizations received by the October 31st deadline. “We are excited to have more than 100 members in this newly formed non-profit,” stated Cathy Hoskinson, Board President, “and we encourage all Cresswind residents to join us and get involved. Through our fundraising and volunteer efforts, we can enrich our lives and make a positive difference in the community.” Visit the website www.cresswindllcommunityfund.org for more information. Cooking Club Central By: Paula King We have had a very busy year with many events, including our recent Dive In Movie, Not Your Kids Grilled Cheese Sandwich, Oktoberfest, and Mexican Dinner just to name a few. The Cooking Club consists of Grill & Ale, Fun with Food, Dinner Group, and Healthy Eating. The Club would like to add cooking classes, small hands-on classes with specific goals at each get together. The ever popular Soup Night will take place on November 20th and the Christmas Cookie Swap on December 16th. The Cooking Club welcomes new members. (Note: the Club will not be meeting in November or December as the meetings conflict with the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays).

Our 6th major production will be during 2017 Memorial Day weekend and will be “We the People” by Pat Cook – a patriotic play that will thrill everyone with its positive upbeat message about the Good Old USA! The CNT is a theatre for the residents and by the residents. It is the residents’ hard work, creativity, and talent that make our productions possible. It is also the residents’ generosity that has made possible technical production enhancements which allow CNT and other Cresswind events to present professional productions. We appreciate Cresswind residents’ wholehearted participation, generosity and support! Ladies Golf Group

The Ladies Golf Group began in April with 45 women. This newly formed group plays every Wednesday morning. Working closely with the Chattahoochee Golf Club, we were able to organize free lessons for our beginner golfers. We also arranged for a monthly Nine at Night event that is held on the last Friday of each month. The members invite a spouse or friend for an evening of golf, dinner, and prizes. Cresswind Golf Group set a record with 39 players one Tuesday in August. We can always use more as we get a shotgun start so we all finish about the same time. We have players that struggle to break 100 and ones that can break 80. Rich Hester shot 2 better than his age recently, carding an 80 at Chicopee Woods. So give Rod Quisenberry a call or email to join in. We will play our regular game until the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, so there is still plenty of golf left. Starting in December, we play a less structured format until the first of March. Paul Lubeck, Bob Belans, and Rod Quisenberry tied for low net. The Cresswind Quilters group is looking forward to another year of quilting fun and fellowship. 2016 was a very productive year with Quilts for Kids and Comfort Quilts for Gainesville Police Department as our major projects. The Cresswind Holiday Bazaar was great fun. A big thank you goes out to all who worked so hard to make it a success. Our Donation quilt winner was Bonnie May, Congratulations Bonnie.
Cresswind residents participated weekly in a Great Decisions foreign policy discussion group during February and March. We learned and talked about eight interesting topics, ranging from the Middle East to Cuba. Come and join us again early next year, when the Foreign Policy Association releases their 2017 topics and discussion materials.
We hope you will join us the first and third Thursdays of each month 1:00-5:00pm in the Arts & Crafts Room. We will have our 2017 planning meeting January 5th at 1:00 pm. Recent and upcoming outings include a Victorian festival at Atlanta’s Oakland Historical Cemetery, dinner and a play in Clarkesville, lunch at the Bistro, whitewater rafting, line dancing, and a wine cruise! We have also taken in Horseback riding, hiking, theatre and the Harlem Legends Basketball Team. This is a great group for making and keeping friends. Veterans Club By: Roy Gogel The Veterans Club remains busy touching one life at a time, helping local veterans, their families, and the needy and homeless. Members assist job seekers. They also visit Hospice veterans, thanking them for their service in recognition ceremonies. Members regularly attend Superior felony court, coaching individual veterans, keeping them in tax paying jobs as opposed to tax supported incarceration. Funds are granted to Veterans with limited work abilities and therefore have service dogs. The semi-annual Food Drive was successful thanks to your support- thank you. These cans are stored and distributed as needed.
In November, the annual coat and blanket drive
will be November 7th through 12th. Items are warehoused and distributed as needed throughout the winter months; thank you for your support. Veterans Day will be recognized in a joint ceremony with the American Legion. Membership is open to all who want to volunteer to help Veterans and others.

Travel Club News By: Phil Vinyard The Cresswind Travel Club just wrapped up the third quarter of 2016 with a fantastic trip to Charleston and Beaufort, SC. The group stayed at the Embassy Suites in downtown Charleston, which was converted from the original Citadel. They enjoyed hearing many interesting facts while touring in carriages, a boat, and walking. We also got to see the Angel Oak, which is a 1500 year old Live Oak tree on Johns Island, sang slave songs at the Praise House, and visited Middleton Plantation. The last quarter of the year also offers great excursions including a Fall Flotilla on Lake Lanier, trip to Harrah’s Cherokee casino, the Fox Theater presentation of Cabaret, and a trip to St. Augustine, FL, to wrap up the year. Our general meetings are the first Thursday of every month in the ballroom and check out our web site at www.cresswindtravelclub.com.

By: Dave Dittmeier In September, six rigs made a trip to Franklin, NC. A grand time was had by all. The trip included hiking, touring the local area with shopping in Dillard and the Highlands. The trip hosts, Julie and Dave Binnix, provided hamburgers and hot dogs for a cookout with the rest of the group bringing a side dish. Another trip in late October was made to the Wings over North Georgia in Rome, Georgia. This was a weekend of general aviation fly-ins and featured the USAF Thunderbirds, aerobatics, and lots of aviation-related activities. A trip is planned for mid-November to Asheville to take in the Christmas lights and pageantry. We expect Another fun time for all who go! If any Cresswind residents have or are interested in purchasing a Recreational Vehicle, our club would be excited to include you in our future road trips. In September, the Women’s and Men’s Bible Studies Groups sponsored the Gospel Quartet, Sounds of Jericho. This group entertained the attendees with an evening of uplifting Gospel music. The Men’s Bible Study continued its study of the book of 1 Peter facilitated by Dave Bates. Unpacking Scriptures and related discussions on a weekly basis have given the men in attendance a better understanding of Scripture and its relevance to today’s world. This group meets every Friday at 10 am in the Fitness Lounge.

Handy Community Safety Notes • Observe Posted Speeds • Stop and look all ways for additional traffic or pedestrians at stop signs. • Use care when approaching streets which enter main roads and use directional signals. • Be observant of pedestrians and yield to those crossing the roadways. • Bicycles and Golf Carts are now more prevalent and care by those operating them as well as automobile drivers should always be exhibited. • Be extra careful at our main entry and egress point to and from our Cresswind Community as Browns Bridge Road is a very heavily travelled roadway. • Lastly, roundabouts present yet additional concerns: - Please slow down as you approach any roundabout - Yield to Traffic on your left which may already be in the circle - Enter the roundabout when there is a safe gap in traffic - Keep your speed low within the roundabout - NEVER Turn Left Into a Roundabout!!
