All I can say is... WOW! I have enjoyed participating in your many events over the last couple of months. To each of you who I have had the pleasure of spending time with at these events, all I can say is “WOW”. As Mark said the other night, “if this is retirement, then sign me up”. For those of you have not yet experienced the thrill of dancing or singing the night away, come on out, have fun, be with your friends and neighbors. You will not regret it; even better things are yet to come. As we approach spring…. not that we ever had a winter this year, I feel the need to remind members about our rules concerning exterior modifications to their homes and or landscape. We all feel energetic and want our home to look as nice as we can, and sometimes some of the ideas are great. While we want you to be able to express your taste and flair, there are two factors to consider

when contemplating exterior changes. The first is to remember our tastes are not the same and what might be attractive in one person’s eyes may be a distraction to others. It is always good to get your neighbors’ thoughts before submitting a request to add or take away from your planned landscape, the colors of your home, or an addition to your home. Questions to ask yourself: does it take away from the general aesthetics of the neighborhood? Will it stand out and clash against the surrounding homes? Will it look the same six months from now? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then it definitely is worth taking a second look at this before submitting. And the second factor is, how long will take to complete the job? Is this a weekend project? Will you be using an outsider contractor? Is this a contrac-
tor familiar with Cresswind regulations? Remember that even though you get approval, you are still responsible for the contractor’s action, or inaction. I have heard from many of you concerning the Annual Meeting with the vast majority of the comments being very positive. As we move forward towards transition, you will see new procedures such as voting and conduct of the meeting being more standardized. The Association is fortunate to have AC and Board leadership in place that have dealt with other community transition before. As always, we do want your feedback on these meetings and how we might improve. The Covenants Committee is part of the appeal process for violations of community standards based upon our governing documents. We are not an enforcement group. Enforcement is provided through the Community Manager. In 2016, the committee spent many hours developing an appeal process. In 2017, we look forward to working with Gary Hulion to further educate the community in order to avoid the need for appeals. All rules and regulations can be found on the Cresswind website. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact one of the above members. The Committee would like to thank John Morris for his dedicated service to the committee in 2016.
Education Committee By: Doug Geganto As we move into 2017, your Education Committee is planning an exciting schedule of educational programs for the community. Here are a few programs we already have on the calendar in the first quarter. In March, CPR/AED training (3 sessions), “How to Stay Young for the First 100 years”, and learn about free college classes for seniors. In April we will hear about Water Conservation. Coming up later in the year, CenterPoint program overview, Avoiding Scams, Computer, and Smart Phone assistance, plus Advances in Dental Technologies. These are just a few of the programs planned for the future. Read the Daily Update for details of scheduled events.
The Cresswind Lending Library The beautiful library located on the lower level of The Club is a “lending library”. All of the books, audio books, and DVDs have been donated by residents. We rely on donations to keep the library well stocked. To keep the library as up to date as possible, please check all donated books for a copyright date of 2007 and newer. Older books will be donated outside the community. Visit the library, find a great book to read, take it home, and enjoy it. Spring may be for planting but this year, with the drought, we all should be cautious as to the investments we make in our landscapes. Remember, what you plant will need at least an inch of water a week. To expedite the approval of landscape applications, please read the application carefully and make sure you include a drawing showing property lines and dimensions, a detailed plant list with varieties, and a plat showing easements. Cresswind LL Community Fund Exceeds First Year Goals By: Cathy Hoskinson The checks are in the mail! That was the good news to recipients of Cresswind LL Community Fund’s first round of grant awards presented in January 2017. The Board of Directors confirmed revenues for the new nonprofit exceeded $16,000. Our goal was $10,000.00. The Guest House received $2,376 to support a full year of patient day care. iTNLanier received two grants: the first, a $1,000 grant for Ride Supplements and the second, funding for an Outreach and Social Media Intern.

Community Chorus By: Chuck Bridwell SPRING MUSIC SPECTACULAR will be FridaySunday, April 28-30 presented by our own 100 voice Cresswind Community Chorus. In addition to the chorus, you will hear some ensembles including the Men’s Chorus, Women’s Chorus, 3’s a Charm trio, Chuck and the UpChucks and more. Tickets are only $10 each and will go on sale the first week of April. Performances will be Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 3:00pm. Music to be presented include “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” “Yesterday,” “Twistin’ at the Hop,” “You’ve Got a Friend,” “Blue Skies,” “Blue Suede Shoes,” “God Bless America,” “Let There Be Peace on Earth,” “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” “Climb Every Mountain,” and more. Special guest artists for the Spring Music Spectacular will be BOARDWALK. This group is one of the most sought after quartets on the show circuit today. Since the beginning of 2014, they have entertained audiences in over 50 appearances across the United States. Their musical style and stage persona is a blend of folk music, barbershop harmony, and classic slapstick.

The Cresswind Bible Study Club is a new club combining the Men’s and Women’s Bible Study groups. The women’s group meets on Thursdays and the men’s on Fridays with lively and informative discussions of the Christian Holy Bible bringing the Word of God to life. These small groups get together to fellowship as well as study in a welcoming and joyful environment. The CBSC also plans additional activities and speakers to further our studies. Come join us. Look What’s Cooking with the Cooking Club The Cresswind Cooking Club is one of the largest and most active clubs in the community. Board of Directors: Paula King, President; Sue Kooistra, Vice President; Linda Gillot, Secretary; Rose Micuch, Treasurer; Eileen Fagan, Member at Large. The Grill and Ale subset puts on some of the larger events like the recent Super Bowl Party where everyone had a great time. We have the upcoming Kentucky Derby Party on May 6th, then the Famous Taste of Lake Lanier Fish Fry, and more summer and early fall events. Cresswind Travel Club By: Nancy Alexander The Cresswind Travel Club meets the first Thursday of each month in the Ballroom of the Clubhouse, unless noted on the Travel Club website and the Daily Update. It costs $5 to join, which allows you to participate in the monthly lottery and the various trips. The club offers day and overnight trips to surrounding venues. The upcoming May trip, May 22nd -26th, is to the Outer Banks, North Carolina. The March trips are the “Phantom of the Opera” play at the Fox Theater with a dinner in Atlanta on March 1st and the Historic Macon, Georgia day trip on March 28th. On April 23rd, we will take a day trip by houseboat on Lake Lanier. The Travel Club welcomes all residents of the Cresswind Community. We hope to see you at our March 2nd and April 6th General Meeting at the clubhouse.

Cresswind Dinner Group By: Karen Silverthorn Dinner Group wraps up its 5th year in our community. Members have enjoyed menus from around the world while meeting new neighbors around the dinner table. Some of our dinners have been themed, Moroccan and Mardi Gras dinners, while others have been seasonally themed. Fall dates for the next Dinner Group meals are October 7th and November 4th. Anyone can join at any time and all recipes are provided. Food and beverage costs average $35 - $50 per couple and are shared equally among the eight participants at each house. Cresswind fishermen are having a big time. We are planning a winter fishing school- watch the update for details. We took a road trip to the Atlanta Boat Show to listen to the fishing lectures and drool over the new boats. The Cresswind aquarium has been upgraded. Genealogy Club By: Dave Dittmeier The Genealogy Club continues to grow, now close to 90 members. The January meeting topics included “Facebook for Dummies”, the “DNA Feat”, and a presentation of “Indexed Images” on FamilySearch.org. The February meeting celebrated the one year anniversary of the Club and the theme was “A Taste of the World” where Club members brought a dish of their ethnic origin to share. One of our topics for the March presentation will be “How to Use the Unified Census E.D. Finder”. The Genealogy Club is open to all residents who have an interest in researching their family tree or who may want to leave a legacy for their children.

Tennis Club News By: Debbie Cortjens
Welcome to Tennis at Cresswind. We have a Men’s Silverball League and a Ladies USTA Team which play on Mondays. Open Play days are Tuesdays and Fridays, Mixed play and Wednesdays, Men’s Play. We have three spring clinics scheduled for Tuesday 3/21, 3/28, and 4/4 from 8:30 – 9:45. All skill levels of play are welcome. These clinics are a great time to get started or get back to tennis. Congratulations to our very own Michael Marsico. His USTA 65 and over combined 7.0 team won the Southern Sectional Title and will represent the Southern Region at the National Tournament in Surprise, AZ in May. This is their 3rd trip to Nationals, which they won in 2011. Good Luck Michael! (in picture, Michael is 2nd from right) We are looking forward to nice weather for spring play. The Quilting Group By: Evelyne Palmer The Cresswind Quilters Group is a group of likeminded residents who gather for the purpose of preserving and implementing the art of quilting. The Quilters Group has a full calendar for 2017. This year the Group Leader is Evelyne Palmer, hybiscus5@outlook.com and Co-leader, Jonnie Grimm, jonniegrimm@outlook.com . Our plans are to continue making Quilts for Kids, a quilting donation project for seniors in Gainesville, Cresswind Holiday Quilt, Shop Hops, Quilt Shows and much more! Group meets on Thursdays of each week in the Arts & Crafts Room from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. We have all levels of Quilters from beginner to experienced! We would welcome new prospective members to stop by and meet the members and see the work we do. If you are new to quilting, we have two quilt shops close by that offer Basic Quilting Classes. In 2016, the Group‘s donated quilts included 28 for the Gainesville Police Department and 16 to My Sister’s Place in Gainesville. Come join in the fun! Contact either Evelyne or Jonnie for details.
