HealthSmart is October 10 The Greater Hall Chamber's 6th Annual HealthSmart Wellness Expo is Wednesday, October 10 at the Georgia Mountains Center in Downtown Gainesville and will feature an estimated 70 booth exhibits providing interactive wellness services. The event is free and open to the public and focuses on community health and wellness. HealthSmart continues to be one of VISION 2030’s most successful initiatives. Economic and Workforce Development The Chamber's first objective is to create jobs. The staff and volunteers focus on both bringing in new industry, businesses and retail development, and on assisting and expanding our existing industries.

In 2011-12, capital investment and job creation included 24 new and expanded industries with 1,232 new jobs, 742 retained jobs and $164 million in capital investment (see Economic Report on page 4).

Small Business Benefits The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce strives to support our small business community. Small Business Success Seminars, the South Hall Business Coalition, Human Resource Council and ongoing workshops and forums help keep our members informed. Working in collaboration with Blue Cross Blue Shield, the Chamber created a partnership to provide our members with an exclusive program offering better access to a wide-range of health insurance. 2012 Economic Development Report

In 2012, 24 new and expanded industries created 1,232 jobs, retained 742 existing jobs and generated $164 million in capital investment for Gainesville-Hall County.

Global firms expanding their North American business included KIK, ProCare Rx, Bitzer, Yazaki, Elringklinger, Kubota, Atex, IMS Gear and Lupold. From 20102012, 62 new and expanded industries created 2,650 jobs, retained 1,260 existing jobs and generated $485 million in capital investment for Gainesville-Hall County.

New industry locating to Gainesville-Hall County included Bitzer, breaking ground on a 95,000-square-foot building at Tanners Creek Business Park to employ 120, people, and Atlanta Biologicals breaking ground just last month, also in Tanners Creek, with a new 36,000-square-foot life sciences facility as the company’s North American headquarters, research and development and production for specialized cell culture products. ZF Wind Power has invested $100 million in a 250,000square-foot manufacturing facility and division headquarters in Gainesville Business Park, creating 215 new jobs, and Skip Barber Racing School moved its headquarters to Hall County, joining the school’s existing base location at Road Atlanta. ProCare Rx, a leading pharmacy benefits management company, opened a new 43,000square-foot headquarters and operations center at Exit 20 on I-985 and will ultimately employ 160 people.

New and developing business/industrial parks in Hall County include Gainesville Business Park, North Gate Retail and Business Park, ProCare Park, Gateway Industrial Centre, and Mountain View Business Park. Pattillo Industrial Real Estate has nearly completed a 77,100square-foot speculative building in Gainesville Business Park. Presco Properties has completed a 27,500square-foot office/business service speculative building in Interstate Ridge Business Park at Exit 22 off I-985.

• Northeast Georgia Medical Center has become the first hospital in the world to receive two accreditations for heart and vascular services from the Accreditation for Cardiovascular Excellence.

Plans are moving forward for the development of a new, 100 bed inpatient hospital on a 119-acre Bitzer groundbreaking at Tanners Creek Business Park. campus in South Hall County/Braselton at River Place, with an estimated opening date of spring 2015.

The hospital was again ranked #1 in Georgia, and in the top 5% in the nation, for heart care for seven years in a row according to HealthGrades® and is one of only six hospitals to rank #1 in all four cardiac categories for 2012.

• A newly released report states that the economic impact of Gainesville State College exceeded $206 million and is part of the combined economic impact of the University System of Georgia’s 35 institutions on their communities, which reached $13.2 billion in 2011.

• In 2013, Gainesville State College and North Georgia College and State University will merge to form the new University of North Georgia with a combined student enrollment of about 15,000.

Healthcare Reform Seminar

As part of the VISION 2030 HealthSmart Community Challenge, the Greater Hall Chamber is conducting its annual survey to seek the “Most Fit Company” in Gainesville-Hall County. Judging criteria for the contest includes wellness, nutrition and fitness opportunities provided for employees. The award is presented in three categories: large companies (251+ employees), medium companies (51-250) and small companies (50 or less).

A Healthcare Reform Seminar will be held on Thursday, September 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Georgia Mountains Center in Downtown Gainesville. The seminar will update businesses and the community on how we are all affected by Healthcare Reform. A panel of experts will be led by Rob Fowler of Turner, Wood & Smith Insurance and Steve McNeilly of Northeast Georgia Health System. The seminar will include discussion with experts in the field and a booklet for participants on Healthcare Reform. Cost is $15 Chamber Members; $20 guests. Registration required. The Wisdom Project The Greater Hall Chamber and Brenau University's Center for Lifetime Study recently introduced a new leadership program, The Wisdom Project The Senior Leadership initiative is one of the Greater Hall Chamber's VISION 2030 "15 Big Ideas" and seeks to recruit and prepare citizens age 50+ to share their wisdom, experiences, and talents in creative ways through action and advocacy on behalf of Hall County. The fall session kicks off August 24. "We have had great interest from the community in The Wisdom Project," says Kathy Amos, director of Brenau's Center for Lifetime Study. "We encourage those interested in the program to submit their application as soon as possible for participation in the next session." Atlanta Biologicals Locates Headquarters to Oakwood/Hall County

The new headquarters will be located in Tanners Creek Business Park in Oakwood. Atlanta Biologicals acquired six acres of land to construct a 36,000 square foot building, and the site is being developed to allow for additional expansion in the future. Kipper Tool Company, a Gainesville-based tool distributor established in 1992, encourages their associates to mentor high school students through the Partner in Education program at Johnson High School, and employs many students through the Youth Apprenticeship Program.
