The Greater Hall Chamber is just wrapping up its Annual Membership Drive with dozens of volunteers recruiting some 100 new members. Helping businesses succeed and fostering a thriving and vigorous business environment are the Chamber's primary goals. With over 2,300 business members, the Chamber continues to offer a full range of valuable resources and business services.

Chamber membership's greatest benefit? Networking, relationships, and lead development. Building relationships is the key to acquiring new business, growing existing business and solving problems. The Chamber only refers its member businesses through the in-house Welcome Center and staff referrals. Barnett named Brenau's 11th President

The Brenau University Board of Trustees announced that Dr. David L. Barnett, former interim president, has been named the 11th president of Brenau University.

"Having served in various roles at Brenau for 18 years, no one knows this institution better – including the best ways to keep us moving forward – than David Barnett," said Mike Smith, Board Chairman. “As Brenau celebrates its 145th year, we appreciate President Barnett’s dedication to the university and the leadership he provides as we continue our shared vision for the future.”

While the Brenau community knows President Barnett in his former role as executive vice president and chief financial officer of the university, a focus on students has been the underpinning of his career in higher education. Barnett teaches a graduate-level course in the College of Education and previously served as interim dean of Brenau’s College of Education.

Before coming to Brenau in 2005, he was academic compliance officer and associate dean of students at Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky. He previously held positions at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky, Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland, Georgia, and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.

• Jason Deal has been named the new Chief Judge of the Northeastern Judicial Circuit, following the retirement of Judge Kathlene Gosselin. He has served as a Superior Court Judge since 2005 and is the presiding judge over the Hall County and the Dawson County Drug Courts, and the Dawson County Treatment Court. Judge Deal served as the first chairman of the Georgia Council of Accountability Court Judges and sat on the Georgia Criminal Justice Reform Committee. Judge Deal is credited with the growth of the drug court programs and providing a model for accountability courts in Georgia.

• Nicole Parham, manager of Main Street Gainesville, announced that in 2023 an estimated $218 million in private/public investments were made in the historic heart of Gainesville. Chicken Box annual pilgrimage to the Capitol

Some 300 Chicken Boxes filled with products and treats from Gainesville-Hall County organizations made the annual trek to the Capitol and were received by our state legislators in appreciation for their work making our state the best in the nation to live, work, play and stay!

Riverside Pharmacy celebrates 70 years

Riverside Pharmacy celebrates its 70th Anniversary this year. Charles Johnson and Joanne Adams opened the store in 1954, with Adams working as the first female pharmacist in Gainesville at the time. Wayne Gee, who continues to work at the pharmacy, owned the business from 1986 to 2010 and sold the business to current owner Scottie Barton in 2010. Service is essential at Riverside, according to employee Katie Barton, Scottie's daughter. Katie says they strive to give the best service possible, allowing them to stand out from big chain stores. This is evident with free home delivery to those living in Hall County and the recent addition of a drive-thru window. The store features a gift shop – Gift Nook – that offers custom embroidery, balloons, gift wrapping, and a wide variety of specialty gift items and décor. Junior Achievement Hall of Fame Awards

Junior Achievement (JA) of Georgia Hall of Fame event in February included the induction of Carol Burrell, President & CEO of Northeast Georgia Health System, and Dr. Jeff Payne, Chairman of Capstone Property Group, into the esteemed group of laureates. These two exceptional leaders have made enduring contributions to Northeast Georgia through their remarkable business acumen and outstanding civic and professional achievements. SBDC fosters client sales & growth

The UGA Small Business Development Center's 2023 Economic Impact Study provides solid evidence that entrepreneurs utilizing UGA SBDC services experience greater sales and employment growth than the average Georgia business. The study found that the employment base of UGA SBDC existing business clients grew by 21.1%, while overall employment levels in Georgia grew by 4.4%. Also, during the same time, existing business clients increased their sales by an average of 23.9% while the average Georgia business experience an increase in sales of 10.0%.
