For this, our second Readers’ Choice awards, we had some 220,470 votes cast in an effort to identify the Best of Hall County for 2017.

For what has quickly become the biggest “Best Of” competition in the area, you nominated over 3,000 businesses in over 200 categories, then voted to select the best of the best. The winners of the 2017 Best of Hall honors range from commercial enterprises to nonprofit organizations, from large groups to individuals, from parks to party places.

Jaemor Farms opened their market in 1981. The main products grown during growing season are strawberries, peaches, blackberries, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, bunch grapes, green beans, okra, muscadines, apples, sweet corn and pumpkins.

Other fruits and vegetables are available depending on the season. We source these items as local as possible.

We also have more than 150 jarred products to choose from and a bakery.

Atlanta Highway Seafood Best Seafood and Best American Food Atlanta Highway Seafood Market has been known to draw quite a crowd with its Cajun- and Asian-inspired dishes.

Owner Phuong Le was rasied in Biloxi, Mississippi and has always enjoyed fresh seafood and great cajun/creole cooking. With the desire to bring that taste and fresh seafood from the Gulf to the people of North Georgia, he opened Atlanta Highway Seafood Market in 2008.

The business started as a fish market and grew into a restaurant, doubling its space since it opened to serve walkins as well as diners. The majority of the seafood served is from the Gulf of Mexico, although some is from Alaska, the East Coast and more locally a farm that sells rainbow trout in Hiawassee.

Fresh seafood is brought in at least 4 times a week, to always ensure freshness. The majority of the seafood is domestic and wild caught with special

items available upon request.

While fresh seafood may be a rarity in Gainesville, Le is all too familiar with the cuisine. Le worked for C.F. Gollott & Son Seafood as a teenager while living near the Gulf in Biloxi, Miss. — a little more than an hour away from New Orleans. Now he’s come full circle, purchasing fish from the supplier for his restaurant. “We try to get the best seafood that we can get,” Le said.

Fresh fish is available for purchase in the market. It can either be brought home as-is or prepared in the restaurant to be eaten there or taken home.

Atlanta Highway Seafood Market was also awarded the 2016-17 “100 Plates Locals Love” distinction by Georgia Department of Economic Development’s Tourism division for its fried shrimp po boy.

“The shrimp po boy is probably our most popular po boy,” owner Phuong Le said. “I’m very honored to be on

that list at all.”

The seafood-style sandwich features wild-caught fresh shrimp on bread from Gambino’s Bakery out of New Orleans. It’s then loaded with lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise and pressed.

The winning dishes were selected from nearly 600 nominations submitted and evaluated by a panel of judges, who selected the final list of “100 Plates Locals Love.” In addition to the Georgia Tourism recognition, the Market has high rankings on several food websites, such as Zomato and Yelp.
