INVESTISSEMENT QUÉBEC LENDS BELT-TECH PRODUCTS A HAND WITH $1M GRANT Belt-Tech Products designs and manufactures various types of seat belt webbing for the automotive, aeronautics, medical and military sectors. The company’s products include seat belts, pull straps, anchors for transport, safety harnesses and webbing products for parachutes.

Belt-Tech Products was recently awarded a $1M loan through the Renfort program, administered by Investissement Québec, which offers loans and guarantees to Québec companies. “Our entrepreneurs invest time and energy towards making their know-how and ideas materialize into innovative products. For the Québec government, it was vital to support this company with strong potential and to consolidate its financing package so that it could move forward with its multiple projects,” said Minister Clément Gignac of the MDEIE. Minister Nicole Ménard added, “Recently, Belt-Tech Products’ expertise led to the signing of a large contract with a major partner in automobile safety that will strengthen its presence in the U.S.” The loan will go to support the company’s development as it conquers this new market. “Thanks to the government support we have been offered, we can complete this seat belt manufacturing contract, which represents an invaluable opportunity for growth,” said Robert J. WORKPLACE APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMS: AN INDISPENSABLE TOOL Textile companies whose operations include openingblending, carding, drawing, roving, weaving, spinning, winding, folding (doubling) or twisting have every advantage in setting up a workplace apprenticeship program, commonly known in Québec as a PAMT, or programme d’apprentissage en milieu de travail. Not only is this an easy to use means of standardizing training and improving employee performance and versatility, but users are entitled to a 30% tax credit on eligible expenses, an amount that rises to 40% for immigrants.

Tout récemment, Produits Belt-Tech s’est vu octroyer un prêt de 1 M $ par le biais du programme Renfort. PERSONALIZED COACHING IN THE WORKPLACE Employers seeking to improve the transfer of skills to a key position or to develop a new trainer’s skills should turn to the coaching services of a master trainer, available through CSMO Textile.

It’s a simple concept: a master trainer accompanies other trainers in action, in the workplace, as they train an apprentice. In the process, the master trainer is able to evaluate the techniques used and give feedback to the employee. The project, which any Québec textile company can benefit from, can last as little as one day or take up of several days of coaching spread out over a year, depending on the trainer’s needs.

Every year, nearly 6500 people attend the event. In 2010, the Grand Rendez-vous boasts a new image reflecting the conference program. On the bill this year, 24 different conferences over the two days will address a range of interests, from psychological health to materials handling to labour law.

Numerous issues in prevention will be addressed throughout the event.

The conference luncheon on Wednesday, October 20, features Mario Brien, production manager of Ex Machina’s Moulin à Images. Since the summer of Québec City’s 400th anniversary in 2008, thousands of people have admired the Moulin à Images, the gigantic work by Robert Lepage and his Ex Machina team. Very few people, however, have had the chance to hear about the occupational health and safety challenges this intricate achievement involved.

THE CANADIAN TEXTILE INDUSTRY’S NEW IMAGE Innovation and technology are offering a brighter future for Canada’s textile industry.

The Technology Roadmap Steering Commit tee of the Canadian textile industry is proud to announce that it has chosen Piccadily Communications Toronto to graphically represent the Canadian technical textile industry’s new image and to develop a communication plan to address key stakeholders, within Canada and internationally.

In 2008, a comprehensive strategic plan known as the “Technology Roadmap” was created for the industry, and it is now time to address image and communication needs. Mrs. Lisa Fecteau, President of the Technology Roadmap, stated: “The objective is to create and promote a distinct new image for Canadian value-added textiles that reflects today’s reality and the promise of the future. Canadian manufacturing will continue to become more efficient, and demand will increase for Canadian textile innovations used in technology sectors such as aerospace, automotive, aviation, military and medical.”

Régitex USA LLC, a manufacturer of made-to-order ring spun and open end yarns, will invest $1.5 million to open a manufacturing operation in Virginia by acquiring an existing textile plant, thus creating 60 new jobs. The company plans to upgrade the textile plant in order to produce leading-edge yarns for the industrial, apparel, high-performance and home furnishing markets.

DES PROJETS D’EXPANSION POUR RÉGITEX USA Régitex USA LLC, fabricant sur commande de fils sur métiers à filer à anneaux et à fibres libérées, investira 1,5 million $ pour exploiter une nouvelle unité de fabrication en Virginie, en rachetant une usine textile existante, ce qui devrait créer quelque 60 nouveaux emplois. La société prévoit de moderniser l’usine textile pour y produire des fils évolués pour le secteur industriel et les marchés du vêtement, des textiles à haute performance et de l’ameublement.

CTIA is actively working with Canadian negotiators to insure textile industry interests and concerns are known as rules of origin and tariff issues are addressed in bilateral free trade agreements.

n Members have benefitted from an ongoing stream of timely, topical and valuable information (including data on industry shipments, trade, etc.) through a weekly electronic newsletter and issues summaries. Early notice of government initiatives provides a crucial opportunity to ask questions and address concerns at a stage of the process that they can still be influenced, as opposed to trying to undo them after they are implemented.

n Members have access to one-on-one assistance in understanding complex issues and getting answers to their questions on a variety of government measures and initiatives.

According to its Chairman Rob Kellock of Stedfast Inc.: “Without a presence in Ottawa, key decisions affecting textile manufacturers will be made without our input. CTIA membership is an investment in making sure our collective voice is heard, and the more companies that join, the louder our voice.”

Sirio De Luca of Consoltex Inc. adds “The new association model reflects the new realities of the Canadian textile industry—lean, but responsive and customer-oriented. Like our companies, it has changed from previous incarnations and for the better.”

Bob Berger of MW Canada reinforces the value of CTIA to its members: “CTIA provides a “one-stop-shopping” point of information and answers to my questions, thanks to its expertise and network of government and industry contacts. The response is always quick, and I can trust the information provided.”

With a successful year one behind it, CTIA is looking forward to more growth and new challenges. Maintaining vigilance on government policy and initiatives; expanding its profile with federal government decision-makers; and enhancing its membership base are high on the agenda for year two.

CTIA membership provides benefits to the companies that belong, to which non-members do not have access. It’s a sound business decision for any textile firm. In addition, there

The Textile Journal wishes to extend its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Robert (Bob) Smith, who died peacefully in North Augusta (ON) on June 15, 2010. Mr. Smith went directly from college to assist his father Robert in the management of St. Lawrence Aniline Co. Ltd. which was located in Verdun (QC). In 1975, he moved the business to Brockville (ON), where he worked until his retirement in 1995, leaving the business for his son L. Rob Smith to take over. Mr. Smith had also earned his way to the presidency of the Québec section of the C.A.T.C.C., having been a member of the Council since 1964. T

We all know of Hydro-Québec as being one of the largest distributors, transporters and producers of electricity not only in North America, but the world. The publicly owned corporation primarily develops renewable energy, specifically hydroelectricity, and is constantly investing in research and development into energy and energy efficiency. The installed capacity of its facilities is 36,810 megawatts and it serves approximately 4 million clients.

Hydro-Québec must clothe over 10,000 workers. Each of the corporation’s divisions (HQ Production, HQ TransÉnergie, HQ Distribution, HQ Équipement and the Société d’énergie de la Baie James) consists of more than 10 business units, each with different clothing needs. In total, that means overseeing over 180 garments, each regulated by a series of technical specifications.

To better understand the policies governing workwear at Hydro-Québec, the Textile Journal turned to Johanne Laberge, advisor, clothing and textiles, appointed to design and development at Hydro-Québec, who agreed to answer our questions.

Every piece of workwear or protective clothing, or category of workwear or protective clothing, at Hydro-Québec necessarily has its own functionalities.

How are the characteristics of all these pieces of clothing established?

We have a number of wardrobes at Hydro-Québec. Some are a vehicle for the company’s corporate image, while others protect employees from fire and electric arcs, ultimately to ensure the population we serve is protected. We also have a uniform for the industrial security group, complete with fire-retardant addition, and a wardrobe for general use.

Each piece of clothing has its own technical specifications. A detailed document first lists all the raw materials that make up the piece of clothing (base fabric, lining, interlining, zippers, sewing thread, embroidery thread, etc.). Next come the instructions for making the garments, the technical illustrations and sizing charts, and finally the page that recapitulates the garment’s development.

To make it into the garment’s technical specifications, the components must be evaluated for approval and certification purposes. Thus, a fire-retardant fabric integrated into HQ’s technical specifications will have to meet over 15 requirements, having been subjected to tests for washing, pilling, electric arc resistance, colourfastness, and more.

What colours are used to identify workers at Hydro-Québec?

Chaque vêtement ou catégorie de vêtement de travail et de protection chez Hydro-Québec a nécessairement des fonctionnalités qui lui sont propres. Comment s’établissent les caractéristiques de tous ces vêtements ?

For the public corporation’s brand image, mainly represented by our meter readers, the wardrobe is essentially navy. For general use, we opt for green, except when it comes to waterproof clothing, where the colour is orange. For the fire-retardant wardrobe, light and dark green are now being used, but these will soon be replaced with orange.

How do you go about evaluating needs in protection and clothing for your employees? How are changes adopted?

Chaque vêtement possède sa propre spécification technique.

Un document détaillé énumère d’abord la totalité des matières premières qui constituent le vêtement (tissu de base, doublure, entre-doublure, fermetures à glissière, fil d’assemblage, fil de broderie, etc.). Viennent ensuite les instructions de confection, les illustrations techniques, les tableaux des dimensions et, finalement, la page qui récapitule l’évolution du vêtement.

There is constant process of benchmarking to properly understand every unit’s needs. Unlike most organizations, Hydro-Québec has its own textile specialists, and development of its uniforms takes place internally.

Design and implementation are done here, while the manufacturers we collaborate with take care of the finishing and production.

What is your procurement strategy in regards to clothing? Are there direct orders to manufacturers, or is each contract subject to a call for tenders?

To get to the final product, we compile all the needs of a single wardrobe and select this wardrobe by specialty (shirt, raincoat, etc.).

The call for tenders is public and it leads to a three-year blanket order. The contract can then be extended for an additional year if the supplier lives up to expectations, and for another year if the operation is still satisfactory. Calls for tenders are available on the Hydro-Québec site (www.hydroquébec.com).

The qualification exercise for bidders begins with a questionnaire they must complete. The questionnaire is then analyzed, and a certain number of points is attributed to the manufacturer by a team of specialists in quality control, acquisition and design. Certain bidders are retained in light of this scoring, after which they receive a visit from Hydro-Québec evaluators. At the end of the line, the contract is awarded based on the combined results of the answers to the questionnaire, the industrial visit and, of course, the bid submitted.

Pour l’image de marque de la société d’État, représentée principalement par les releveurs de compteurs, la garde-robe est essentiellement marine. À l’usage général, nous optons pour le vert, sauf dans le cas des vêtements imperméables, où la couleur est l’orangé. Pour la garde-robe ignifuge, les verts pâle et foncé sont présentement utilisés, mais ceux-ci seront remplacés prochainement par l’orangé. Enfin, la sécurité industrielle est identifiée par le noir pour ses deux catégories de vêtements.

L’exercice de qualification des soumissionnaires commence avec un questionnaire qu’ils doivent compléter. Le questionnaire est ensuite analysé et un certain nombre de points est attribué au manufacturier par une équipe constituée de spécialistes du contrôle de la qualité, des acquisitions et de la conception. Certains soumissionnaires sont retenus en fonction de ce pointage, à la suite de quoi ils reçoivent la visite d’évaluateurs d’Hydro-Québec. En bout de ligne, le contrat est octroyé selon les résultats combinés des réponses au questionnaire, de la visite en usine et, bien sûr, de la soumission déposée.

Bien entendu, toutes ces démarches s’avéreraient inutiles si ce n’était pas de la dernière étape, soit celle du contrôle de qualité en usine. Le processus implique des inspections ponctuelles en usines qui seront effectuées avec ou sans préavis, le tout pour s’assurer du respect du plan de qualité préalablement établi.

Heureusement, les manufacturiers avec qui nous traitons sont consciencieux et dynamiques.

The challenge is an interesting one.

For quite some time now at HydroQuébec, we’ve been approach- ing things in a way that strikes others in the business as unor thodox. When our concept is sufficiently advanced, we put the key players in contact with one another, in other words, the raw material manufacturers with the designers. It seems essential to us that these links in the production chain communicate more closely in order to offer a product that is better adapted to the customer’s needs. Cooperation between partners working for a same end is also one of the best ways to counteract the flood of foreign products on the market and save the industry as a whole.

En imaginant le vêtement idéal pour servir l’essentiel de votre main-d’œuvre, quelles seraient les caractéristiques souhaitées ?

Pour nos releveurs de compteurs, nous souhaiterions avoir accès à un tricot qui offrirait un rendement supérieur à celui des tenues de sport, en termes de gestion de la chaleur et de l’humidité, car notre personnel doit marcher au soleil, entrer tour à tour dans un endroit climatisé et une pièce surchauffée par des équipements industriels, sortir au grand vent, etc.

Pour nos monteurs de lignes, un vêtement ignifuge de niveau II de résistance à l’arc électrique est nécessaire, mais il serait intéressant que celui-ci soit d’une épaisseur qui ne fasse pas suffoquer les travailleurs ! Et si on se permettait de rêver, ce vêtement serait orange « haute visibilité » seulement lorsque nécessaire, alors qu’il deviendrait plus sobre sur demande.

Comment les industriels québécois peuvent-ils contribuer à maximiser l’efficacité des vêtements et des processus de fabrication et d’approvisionnement ?

Le défi est très intéressant. Chez Hydro-Québec, nous procédons depuis longtemps d’une façon qui apparaît peu orthodoxe dans le milieu. Lorsque notre concept est suffisamment avancé, nous mettons en relation les intervenants, c’est-à-dire le manufacturier de matière première et le confectionneur. Il nous apparaît essentiel que ces maillons de la chaîne de production communiquent de façon plus étroite afin d’offrir un produit mieux adapté aux besoins du client. La coopération entre les partenaires travaillant à une même fin pourrait par ailleurs être une des meilleures façons de contrer l’inondation du marché par les produits étrangers et de sauver l’industrie dans son ensemble.

Optez-vous essentiellement pour des matériaux québécois ?

Des efforts importants sont déployés depuis plus de 25 ans pour s’assurer que la confection des vêtements soit réalisée au Québec et que toutes les matières premières soient de provenance québécoise. Depuis deux ans environ, nous avons entrepris d’agrandir le spectre de l’apport québécois, notamment en ce qui concerne la matière à l’intérieur des tissus ainsi que les tricots de base.

Do you mainly choose Québec materials?

Major efforts have been made over the past 25 years to ensure that the design of the clothing takes place in Québec and that all the raw materials are from Québec. For about two years now, we have endeavoured to broaden the spectrum of the Québec contribution, particularly in regards to the material within the fabrics, and the basic knits.

Does H-Q adhere to exemplary practices in terms of sustainable development (recycled and recyclable materials, ecological manufacturing procedures, etc.)?

La compagnie Hydro-Québec adhère-t-elle à des pratiques exemplaires en termes de développement durable (matériaux recyclés et recyclables, procédés de fabrication écologiques, etc.) ?

Nous avons une directive d’entreprise écoresponsable qui nous incite à la préservation de l’environnement et des ressources naturelles. ÉTATS-UNIS On April 26 and 27, the CTT Group attended the 2010 Outlook Conference, organized jointly by the United States Industrial Fabrics Institute (USIFI) and the Narrow Fabrics Institute (NFI)1.

According to event organizers, the presence of over 115 strategic decision maker—a record for the event—demonstrates that the American textile industry is at a turning point and that hopes for a recovery are palpable.

At the first conference, John E. Connaughton, Ph.D., an economics professor at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, drew a portrait of what he called the Great Recession of 2008-2009, which was responsible for the loss of over seven million jobs in the U.S. Connaughton said that over 50% of these job losses had been recorded in the manufacturing and construction sectors alone.

Connaughton said that the recession was over, but stressed that a return to pre-recession job levels would take several months or even years. A survey of the consumer confidence index—which hovered around 46.0 in January 2010, and hit 63.3 in May—will show how the health of the American economy evolves in quarters to come.

Alasdair Carmichael and David Hart of PCI Fibres, Consulting Group, delivered a conference entitled “Synthetic Fibers— Reading the Fall Out from the Recession and Synthetic Industrial Yarn Markets—The Global Challenges.” Carmichael stated that in 2012, world demand for all fibres would sink to 2007 levels (78 million tons), but would then jump to 98 million tons by 2020. The consultant said that world demand for synthetic fibers over the next 10 years would grow by 3.4% annually. Hart shared his thoughts on, and forecasts for, Polyester Industrial Yarn (PIY) and Nylon Industrial Yarn (NIY), and noted the following points:

n The world market for PIY In 2010 will exceed 2007 levels for the first time, and then grow 4% annually over the next decade. For NIY, Hart forecasts annual growth of 2%.

n China will consume over 65% of world PIY and NIY production by 2015.

n The market dynamic in coming years will be based on improving yarn performance (hybrid/high performance), American rules of origin, and use of protective, medical and intelligent textiles.

n la dynamique de marché des prochaines années reposera sur l’amélioration des performances des filaments (hybride/haute performance), les règles d’origine américaines et sur l’utilisation des textiles de protection, médicaux et intelligents.

La présentation2 du colonel Kurt D. Wilson, responsable de la division Defence Supply Center of Philadelphia (DSCP), Clothing & Textiles, a démontré l’importance de la relation avec les fournisseurs qu’il considère comme des partenairescollaborateurs avec lesquels son organisation souhaite travailler dans un modèle d’affaires transparent. Dans sa conférence « Trade Policy Perspectives », Kim Glas, secrétaire adjointe au U.S. Department of Commerce, a présenté des statistiques sur les importations américaines de textiles et vêtements en 2009 qui mettent en évidence la force de la Chine (31,8 milliards $US) et du Vietnam (5,3 milliards $US) sur le marché américain. Sur le plan des exportations, le Canada demeure le meilleur client des États-Unis (3,5 milliards $US), suivi du Mexique (3,2 milliards $US). Mme Glas a terminé sa présentation en faisant référence au Berry Amendment qui se rapporte aux achats textiles et vêtements militaires et de son élargissement proposé en vertu du Kissel Amendment3.

“Agenda for 20102,” presented by Colonel Kurt D. Wilson, director of the Defence Supply Center of Philadelphia (DSCP), Clothing & Textiles Division, highlighted the importance of the relationship with suppliers, whom he considers partner-collaborators that his organization seeks to work with in a transparent business model. Wilson will soon implement an efficiency plan called Vision 2011 consisting of three components: Statistical Control Procedure, ISO 9001 Certification and Quality Plus. Wilson noted that Canadian companies could very well supply the American army, as long as they met the criteria of the Berry Amendment.

In her conference “Trade Policy Perspectives,” Kim Glas, a deputy assistant secretary at the U.S. Department of Commerce, presented 2009 statistics on American textile and clothing imports that highlighted the strengths of China (US$31.8 billion) and Vietnam (US$5.3 billion) in the American market. In terms of exports, Canada remains the U.S.’s top customer (US$3.5 billion), followed by Mexico (US$3.2 billion). Glas ended her presentation with a discussion on the Berry Amendment, which relates to military textile and clothing purchases, and its proposed expansion as provided for in the Kissel Amendment3.

The final presentation, entitled “Increasing Marketing Efficiency and Effectiveness Through Focus,” was given by Dr. Jay E. Klompmaker, an affiliate of the Klompmaker Consulting Group, and a professor of business administration at the University of North Carolina. Klompmaker’s conclusions were

based on a study recently published in the Harvard Business School Magazine on the various strategies adopted by 4700 public corporations to weather three recessions.

The study found that enterprises in the best position (9%) to emerge from the recessions were those that had taken steps to streamline operations, minimize layoffs and plan a growth strategy founded on R&D. The Outlook Conference 2010 ended on a discussion led by representatives from the three organizing associations. INTRODUCTION TO GEOTHERMAL ENERGY A heating and air conditioning system for your plant, offices or warehouse that saves you up to 70% of costs and is environmentally-friendly? Sounds too good to be true, right? And yet geothermal energy really is an efficient and continuous form of renewable energy. Unlike solar panels, which have a lower yield when balmy weather isn’t in the forecast, geothermal energy—the word geothermal means “heat of the earth”—draws heat from the underground depths, where temperatures remain stable every day of the year.

The technology consists of moving heat from one point to another. In summer, for instance, a geothermal heat pump extracts heat from the building and transfers it to the ground, then draws cold from under the rock and redistributes it indoors. In winter, the opposite occurs. And since heat without combustion is produced, geothermal systems are cleaner and safer than oil or gas heating systems, and considerably less energy-consuming than regular heat pumps.

Installing a goethermal system requires first digging an underground well a few hundred feet deep. The number of wells depends on the building’s size and heat load calculation, and the exact depth of the wells depends on underground conditions (location of the rock, presence of water, etc.). Long pipes—where a conductive liquid circulates in a loop—are then inserted in the wells and connected to the heat pump, from which tempered air is distributed throughout the building.

INTRODUCTION À LA GÉOTHERMIE Un système de chauffage et de climatisation pour votre usine, vos bureaux ou votre entrepôt qui permet d’économiser jusqu’à 70 % des frais et qui est bénéfique du point de vue de l’environnement ? Cela semble trop beau pour être vrai. Et pourtant… la géothermie constitue réellement une forme d’énergie renouvelable performante et constante. Contrairement aux panneaux solaires qui ont un rendement plus faible lorsque le beau temps n’est pas au rendez-vous, la géothermie – dont le terme signifie « chaleur de la terre » – puise la chaleur dans les profondeurs souterraines, où la température demeure stable tous les jours de l’année.

La technologie consiste donc à déplacer la chaleur d’un point à un autre. Par exemple, en été, la thermopompe géothermique extrait la chaleur de la maison et la transfère au sol, puis en retour elle puise le froid sous le roc et la redistribue dans la bâtisse. L’hiver, c’est l’inverse qui se produit. Et puisqu’on obtient une chaleur sans combustion, les systèmes géothermiques sont plus propres et plus sécuritaires que les systèmes de chauffage au mazout ou au gaz, et nettement moins énergivores que les thermopompes régulières.

L’installation d’un système géothermique requiert avant tout le forage de puits souterrains de quelques centaines de pieds de profondeur. Le nombre de puits varie selon la superficie du bâtiment et le calcul de la charge, et la profondeur exacte des puits dépend des conditions souterraines (emplacement du roc, présence d’eau). De longs tuyaux – où circulera en boucle un liquide conducteur – sont ensuite insérés dans les puits puis raccordés à la thermopompe, à partir de laquelle l’air tempéré est distribué à travers l’édifice.

Most new environmentally friendly buildings aiming for LEED certification rely on geothermal heating and air conditioning systems. Though initial installation costs (digging of wells, purchase of heat pumps. etc.) are considerable, the endeavour pays off soon enough with the impressive savings it generates. Installing geothermal systems is often matched with subsidies from provincial and federal energy efficiency agencies.

La plupart des nouvelles constructions écologiques qui visent la certification LEED se fient sur un système de chauffage et de climatisation géothermique. Bien que les frais d’installation initiaux (forage des puits, achat des thermopompes) soient plutôt importants, la rentabilisation est assez rapide en raison des économies impressionnantes générées. IFAI EXPO AMERICAS 2010 PREVIEW Keynote to address the post-recession economy Growing business in an uncertain economy is the most critical challenge that leaders in the specialty fabrics industry face today. It may come as no surprise that the recovery from the great recession of 2008-2009 has been slow, but why? John E. Connaughton, Ph.D., professor of economics at the University of North Carolina (UNC) in Charlotte, will address this concern in his keynote address at IFAI Expo Americas 2010. Connaughton will explain in layman’s terms the causes for the recession as it affects small business owners, the key signs of recovery, and how consumer sentiment will determine the pace of expansion and the rate of job growth.

2010 International Achievement Awards IFAI will announce the recipients of the 2010 International Achievement Awards, the industry’s premier awards program for 64 years, with a special presentation during the Friday night Gala. The program recognizes excellence among hundreds of participating projects each year in 14 market areas. Designers, manufacturers or subcontractors of specialty fabric end products qualify for the annual competition.

Winning projects receive extensive media exposure through press releases and on IFAI websites, and are frequently featured in IFAI magazines, including Specialty Fabrics Review.

HEIMTEXTIL: A MUST-VISIT EVENT IN 2011 After welcoming nearly 72,000 international visitors to its last show in January 2010, the Heimtextil International Trade Fair for Home and Contract Textiles opens its doors again from January 12 to 15, 2011, in Frankfurt am Main (Germany). The upcoming show already promises to be a good one judging by the number of registrations and exhibition surfaces rented.

The big names will be present—Kadeco, MHZ, Erfal, Rasch and Albani, Marburger Tapeten, Frankenstolz, Schlossberg, Gebrüder Sanders, Badenia, Fratelli Graziano, Christian Fischbacher, Elegante and Cawö Textil—along with multiple international suppliers. It’s a unique opportunity to present products and be inspired by the latest trends.

A green product directory For Heimtextil, sustainable development is a very important theme, and exhibitors and visitors will have access to a Green Directory for the first time. Recent studies have shown that the market share occupied by environmentally friendly textiles will experience strong growth. Compared to conventional products, sustainable home textiles are characterized by their friendliness to the environment. They are made from recycled fibres, renewable materials like hemp and bamboo, or are the product—cotton, for instance—of organic farming. They also use coatings and other products that are less harmful to the environment. For easy identification of sustainable products, the latter will be affixed with a logo and listed in the guide. The theme of sustainable development will also play a major role in the special presentations and conferences.

Prominent speakers from all over Europe and the US gave valuable impulses how new technologies inspire business.
