Our award-winning Tech Academies Fellowship Program empowers educators to develop leadership skills and cross-curricular expertise in engineering instruction.

The Tech Academies Fellowship Program is a partnership between The Tech, San Jose State University’s College of Science, and partner school districts in San Jose and south county and their expanded learning (after-school) programs.

The fellowship empowers educators to develop leadership skills and cross-curricular expertise in engineering and computer science instruction. Fellows who complete the program emerge as Engineering Education Leaders and Software Engineering Education Leaders who provide professional development throughout their districts.

Each January, 40 educators from Grades K-12 will be selected by their school districts and expanded learning programs to participate in a two-year fellowship with The Tech and San Jose State University, joining a growing network of STEM leaders supporting district-wide cross-curricular engineering and computer science instruction. Supports will focus on the engineering design process, mechanical engineering, software engineering and 21st century skills. While all participants will be exposed to all content areas, each will choose to specialize in either mechanical engineering or software engineering.

Who is eligible?

Any K-12 educator in the following Tech Academy partner school districts or expanded learning organizations serving students in these districts: • Alum Rock Union School District • Campbell Union School District • Campbell Union High School District • Mount Pleasant Elementary School District • East Side Union High School District • Oak Grove Elementary School District • Franklin-McKinley School District

Additionally, interested educators must be: • Enthusiastic and committed to fully completing the two-year program requirements which include attendance at: - The two-week Summer Institute July 19-30, 2021 (Monday to Friday) - Four half-day Community of Practice meetings each year - One observation each year • Supported by an administrator to provide professional development to other educators in the second year of the program.

• NGSS- and CCSS-aligned support for integrating instruction around real-world problems in all content areas.

• Resources and professional development in the engineering design process, computer science and 21st century skills.

• Equity-based solutions that ensure access to critical STEM skills for all students.

• Leadership development and opportunities to make an impact in their school, district and beyond.

Fellows gain: • Over 90 hours of quality professional development to become an Engineering Education Leader or Software Engineering Education Leader.

• Membership in a network of like-minded educators committed to increasing quality engineering education in the classroom.

• Growth as a leader within the district and opportunities to gain new professional skills.

• District-supported release time for professional development held during the school year.

• A stipend upon full completion of Summer Institute requirements.
