Chapter & Individual Grant Recipients During the 2014-2015 Fiscal Year, Theta Foundation helped provide 22 collegians and alumnae with the opportunity to pursue non-degree educational, leadership, and service-learning programs. These remarkable women received $27,806 in support from our Named Grant Endowment Funds to participate in leadership workshops, conferences, professional internship programs, and service projects around the globe. These experiential learning opportunities helped Theta women grow as leaders in service, academia, their professions, and their communities and campuses, all while strengthening fellow Thetas and nonThetas alike. Theta Foundation is proud to announce this year’s grant recipients. We invite you to join us in congratulating these women on their incredible efforts to promote the widest influence for good and, in the words of Founder Hannah Fitch Shaw, “accomplish the great work of life.”

Quarter 1

Hannah Andrews

Kathryn Wilk

National Society of Genetic Counselors Annual Education Conference

Quinnipiac University Occupational/Physical Therapy Trip to Nicaragua (O.P.T.I.O.N)

The National Society of Genetic Counselors promotes the professional interests of genetic counselors through a specialized communication network and continuing education opportunities. A Theta Foundation grant supported Hannah’s attendance at the NSGC Annual Education Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she participated in sessions focused on new genetic testing techniques as well as psychosocial and professional issues facing genetic counselors.

Sponsored by the Albert Schweitzer Institute at Quinnipiac, this eight-day program brings students to Léon, Nicaragua, to provide occupational and physical therapy evaluations and home treatments for people who may not otherwise have access to such services. Kathryn’s team used “cardboard carpentry” to create adaptive equipment such as wheelchairs and wedges for ten children.
